I never knew the name, but I always did love this piece.
At 1:00 she's talking about Campanella technique. It was popular in the baroque period for re-entrant tuned instruments like the baroque guitar and cittern.
Some ukulele players still practice it. John King was a great proponent. It can be very difficult, but the effect is magnificent.
She has "one upped" the great Dave Laibman on this one! Those nylon strings deflect under the nails to one's advantage on those fast riffs. We must try a nylon strung guitar someday!
One of the best guitar books i have ever read is from her. He can explain the guitar harmony very good, he wrote very good guitar books!!! bThanks for that, he is a realy master(in) Cheers
That is a cool lesson & performance video of a young Muriel Anderson sparkling through a brilliant arrangement of a hip old tune. Timeless music I completely enjoy and appreciate. The girl can jam, and does it with charisma. .
Think I heard you years ago sitting in with Chet Atkins play this on a cut away guitar. I was so amazed by it I partly learned in on the 5 string banjo. Think I only left a couple (dozen) notes that you put in. It is still beautiful today the way you play it, thanks,Buzz
What is so amazing about Muriel is the amalgam of traditional american music like bluegrass and ragtime on one side and a classical nylon-guitar technique on the other side. Thus she combines the advantages of both worlds.
I turned 69 yesterday and LOVE Youtube--you are really good. I've been playng old songs all evening, and Nola has always been one of my favoites. Thanks. Have you tried Chet's Dance of the Goldenrods?
All the more amazing to me is how small Muriel's hands are compared to mine.... and she has no trouble with a full 2" guitar neck. Just goes to show you that any player can benefit from using classical techniques. She is amazing in what she does with the guitar! I never tire of hearing her play! tom robinson
Muriel is absolutely fantastic. Les Paul said that she is one hell of a player and plays like we all would wish to play and Chet Atkins said that Muriel is a great player and friend and should be nationally recognized. She is the only woman to ever win the national finger picking championship. I can't get enough of her fantastic playing both on regular acoustic and harp guitars.
she's a brilliant and innovative guitarist -- she can't help it if she's beautiful, too. I've never had the pleasure of meeting her, but she seems like a real sweetheart.
Amazing. What Muriel can do with a simple acoustic guitar is far more impressive than what Steve Vai was doing with his awful three neck device. Nothing can beat a good guitar picker and it's great to see that young musicians continue the tradition of good picking.

I hate to throw cold water on your wet dream hoss, but I think (if you take note of her song, Lady Pamela) she's gay. Seriously, I've spoken with her on a couple of occasions, and she has no interest in men. Sorry, Dude.
@jimirsaysbuddy Muriel is one of my customers. She has two of my guitars, a parlor and harp guitar, with another parlor guitar currently in the works. Believe me, she is not gay. She has a boy friend. She is just very much a lady who doesn't simply flim around with any male who trots by.
That is fantastic.

Muriel,
I can see that your music is your true love and you do play from your heart. You keep your mother close to you by playing Nola.
It also reminds me of my beloved mother
who played it on the piano. Love to you.

I love this tune, and she plays it superbly. Amazing stretches on those slender fingers. I wish I had half her technical facility and feel.
She sounds like a really nice person.

And I'll bet she looks great in a bathing suit, too. She plays down her looks probably because looks has nothing to do with music. What an angel.
