Also, the most venomous animal in the world, the box jelly, can kill in 5 minutes minimum, so 40 seconds is a bit of an exaggeration. You have at least a few hours to live before the hematoxic venom destroys your vital tissues.
because the sand is hot. if it slithered it would burn it's tummy. They have the most amazing way of moving, only three points of it's body are touching the sand at any given time to avoid damage :)

I like sidewinders. They actually have to move that way because the sand shifts so much. It's part of their evolutionary makeup.
