Hours keep getting cut. Why? B/C EMPLOYERS CAN!
Some businesses are struggling because when ALL employers cut back (b/c they can, for more profit), employees don't spend. Every employee is a potential customer for another business, and when their own job is threatened, then they won't spend. While many of these employers are NOT struggling, they are destroying our economy w/their greed, and putting those other struggling businesses-out of business. Its amazing how not one time have I heard a politician mention the actual reason for high health care costs in the US during the debate, the people aren't healthy. The majority of people do not any exercise and eat almost twice what is recommended per day. 70% of health costs would be removed through lifestyle modification alone. Regardless of which side of the debate your on this is what we should be worried about. The health care costs will fall when people take care of their bodies.
I would really like to have the public option in the bill, the current provisions are obviously a step in the right direction but the public option is the leap us progressives have been looking for and expecting from this administration.

The government is not ANYWHERE NEAR as efficient as a private company, is ALWAYS WRONG about costs, and never delivers what it promises. Look at the soon to be bankrupt Social Security (so-called) trust fund. In 1964, LBJ promised that Medicare would only cost $12 Billion in 25 years. In 1989, the actual cost of Medicare per year was $108 Billion. They were off by 900%!!! Do you not care or understand?

Since you care so much about protecting employer's profit, then the public option, or universal health care, would have been in the employer's best interest. If the government provides, then the employees won't rely on their employers to provide it, everybody gets covered, people are healthy....everybody contributes, everybody wins...and then someday, maybe, we can apply that idea to higher education for all. This will be similar to car insurance, you could be fined if your employer refuses to offer you health insurance, and if your employer is considered a "small business" owner, then YOU'LL pay the price, he'll be exempt. Even if he makes millions. Example: small pharmacies are considered "small businesses", most make enough to provide health ins. for employees, many don't b/c they DON'T HAVE TO.

My adult son and I will now be fined $750 b/c we have greedy employers who refuse to offer us health insurance (and they are considered "small" business owners, so they are exempt). My employer eliminated mine AFTER it was promised to me at date of hire. My 21 yr. old son had a very hard life, deadbeat dad that our government never held accountable, no money for higher education....and now he will be hit w/a $750 fine b/c his employer is greedy? In Calif., can't change jobs, nobody is hiring!

@jeff, my mother's former employer was a major insurance company and they eliminated all benefits in the 1990's, years after she worked hard for what she earned, just for them to take it all away. This was WAY BEFORE the economical collapse, the economy was great. My employer is making more of a profit now than he ever has, a pharmacy, he eliminated my health insurance, he brags that he'll make over a million this year as a small business owner. Hours keep getting cut. Why? B/C EMPLOYERS CAN!

Some businesses are struggling because when ALL employers cut back (b/c they can, for more profit), employees don't spend. Every employee is a potential customer for another business, and when their own job is threatened, then they won't spend. While many of these employers are NOT struggling, they are destroying our economy w/their greed, and putting those other struggling businesses-out of business. Its amazing how not one time have I heard a politician mention the actual reason for high health care costs in the US during the debate, the people aren't healthy. The majority of people do not any exercise and eat almost twice what is recommended per day. 70% of health costs would be removed through lifestyle modification alone. Regardless of which side of the debate your on this is what we should be worried about. The health care costs will fall when people take care of their bodies.
