Wow, I could not agree with you more fenderbob1967, 2 years later - just came across this. I find these videos helpful and useful, I've been playing for over 30 years. This is not my usual style; I take it all in - isn't it great to learn something different
@peteyboy54 im in the same boat as you, started playing metal back in the mid 80's(Priest, Crue, Ratt etc) moved on to rock in the 90's (Black Crowes, Matchbox 20, Spin Doctors etc) then went back to classic rock about 10 yrs ago (Thin Lizzy, AC DC, CCR Etc) and now I am learning country! Loving Cash & Haggard but also blown away by Paisley for his guitar work, Toby Keith for his tongue in cheek lyrics (and his pride in hi country) and the new style country such as Pasley, Church & Bryant.
Nice vid man--I actually play for a church worship team but am always looking to my expand my horizons--never really listened/played much country before, but I'm definitely bookmarking this. I can see how those thirds/sixths/other two notes is nice for thickening up solos. Also getting my first Tele soon. :D
This was real cool, got some great stuff from it. I checked out your other vids and subscribed though you have not posted anything for a while. I really liked this and hoped you had some other country vids, I was a bit disappointed this was your only country vid cuz it is really quite cool. Really hoping you post some more country licks. I pulled out some great riffs from this, that I was able to improvise a bit on. anyhow thanks this was very inspirational for me. Please post again!
Y'all out there don't think '50's and '60's rock have country influences? The song "Maybelline" is essentially a rewrite of the old country song "Ida Red". "That'll Be the Day" - that doesn't sorta sound like country music to you? The way this guy bends strings sounds like country to me. Otis Rush, Albert King, Buddy, B.B. - now THOSE dudes don't bend country. It's not illegal in country music to play pure pentatonics w/"bluesy" bends, and nothing exists in a vacuum (is "100% pure" anything).
Some Pretty cool licks. Something about your style that is somewhat country but there is a significant element of a surf vibe going on. Not sure if it is intentional or if you are even aware of it, but it is pretty cool nonetheless. I would say keep pickin the country, but you would fit right in like a glove with surf music so if you are not into that style, maybe give it a listen.
Of course he can`t play it exactly the same way...its about feel ...not playing like a computer....this tab culture is too much....pick up your instrument and play it
Exactly; nobody gives a shit if you can't sound exactly like someone. That's what's great about guitar; its individual and CREATIVE, not mindless carbon copying of someone elses work.
nice work gonna practice some of your technique you,ve got some great stuff going on there..maybe incoporate some of what you do in my next vidio..if you care to check out mine.. what you think
you really don't need a tab. he's mostly just playing major thirds on the highest three strings and doing some fills. (there's only three shapes you need to know).

I can't believe this idiot playing this beautiful song. And he calls it licks 101. The dumb ass goes so fast and you can't catch on. Not only that, he needs to go to a darker area where you can really see the strings. They shine upon you. I think he was combining teaching with showing off. Quite frankly, amateurs like that need to move on and let the real teachers do some for us
He had the gall to complain that the guy plays too well for him to follow, then calls him an amateur! If you can't follow along with a guy playing right in front of your face, then who's the idiot?
