Hey,um... SunAndShade...I wanna ask...How do u take care of the little babies?do u put something or do something till they grow up...pls tell me...my rabbit got babies I kept them in the box and 4 of them died.Pls pls pls tell me..im a rabbit breeder but dosent know how to take care their babies..Pls reply u can save my rabbit's babies' life pls :) Ty.
@MegaFirestorm123 I do not raise rabbits, but rather take care of baby rabbits born in the shelter. Since there are so many rabbits in the shelters, many are euthanized ... very sad. If you want rabbits, please get them from the shelters, rather than raising them.
I'm using a Marchioro cage. It's 4 feet by 2 feet. You can get it online or through independent pet stores. Even for one small rabbit, it's barely large enough. I use it when the babies are small. When they are larger, the mom & babies live full time in my (bunny proof) kitchen. All rabbits like to run & play so the kitchen gives them the space they need. Some people will keep the bunnies in a cage overnight, but then put them into a larger area during the day.
Breeders for pet stores will wean the babies at 4 weeks, but we in the rescue world think that is not healthy & so wean the babies at 7-8 weeks. BTW, all babies & mom have now been spayed/neutered & have found forever homes.
Babies often nurse the whole 8 weeks, but the mom has control. She can stop them nursing if she wants to. BTW, at this age, the mom is usually away from her babies in a large area so she can run around & be away from the babies. I put her with the babies just a few times a day so she can nurse if she wants to.
Wow ive never seen my rabbits nurse on their mom that long. But I guess if she wants to nurse them then ok.Did you change your username? Becuase the person who made this vid has a diffrent name then you.
I've used SunAndShade for a long time, but then I started a business so now I use curiousbunny9. I sell greeting cards with bunny pictures on them. See them at curiousbunny(dot)com.
Does the mom stay with the babies all day? My bunny had babies lat night I didn't know she was pregnant. (Thought i had 2 girls) Any advice would be appriciated!tjhank you
Too bad you had unexpected babies. Those of us involved in foster care try to prevent that, but things happen. I have a paper describing how to are for newborns that you can read by going to curiousbunny (dot) com . Then click on Rabbit Care Info.
Yes this helps! the male was not with her when she gave birth. I was not planning on babies. But I want to do this right. Needless to say there will be some neutering next week. i am doing the male first.
If the male was with the female when she gave birth, she might be pregnant again & then would give birth again in 30 days. Not a good thing. Be sure the male is not with the babies, as he might hurt them.
When the time is right, as specified in the document I mentioned, be sure to have your bunnies spayed/neutered. That way they can continue to enjoy each others company.
If mom & babies are in a large area (e.g., 4 feet by 4 feet), she can stay with the babies all day. If the area is smaller, she needs some exercise. Put her in a large area a few hours a day so she can run around.
It's great you want to do it right. Bunnies are social animals so don't do well living alone. It's wonderful you have 2 bunnies. Once the babies are weaned & the adults spayed/neutered, the adults can live together again. They will enjoy that.

Hmm with rabbits I normally wean the bunnies at 7 weeks of age and keep them with the mom the whole time. Those sure are cute bunnies!

The babies should be weaned at 5 weeks? Most the time their weaned at 4 weeks. With my rabbits anyways.
