If business reaches prompting of nuclear warheads on the American cities, Americans will speak more silently and more modestly. Russia has got used to live in a hostile environment. It never frightened us. Americans have managed for 20 years to incite against themselves all world. It is necessary to be more modest.
Russia knows that the number and the range of ICBM's it has renders the US missile defense shield useless. The US is perplexed why Putin and his cronies keep harping about it. Obvious reason is to inflame anti-US sentiments in Russia to deflect criticisms of his authoritarian regime.
The US is step ahead. It anticipates that Russia is up for another political upheaval. It is concerned with the nukes landing in the hands of terrorists or Iran. That's the real reason for the missile shields!
California is an economic superpower, but it is not a superpower, the United States is!
Russia's armed forces is small compared to the US, China or EU. Aside concerns for the nukes it inherited from the USSR, the US does not take Russia seriously as a contender.
What is really happening is Russia's oligarch leaders (yes, Medvedev is an oligarch), like rich Arab states, are deflecting criticisms to their regime by making the US their bogeyman!

They will ask Putin "where's our petro-dollars!" Unlike the US, Russia cannot just keep printing the Rouble without dire consequences..
2AtilladHun You are too naiven!)))) Russians will never do this way now, simply because we are not as poor as try to depict us. We are quite well off to survive this crisis without significant losses. Your picture of russian life is too simply or even primitive.
They'll "stop fearing the west" when it stops trying to surround them with NATO bases, does not break its own promises to them (like George Bush the Elder's vow to Gorbachev to not expand NATO in 1990, or George Bush the Younger's withdrawal from the ABM treaty). And when it stops trying to put missiles right on Russia's borders.
It's not Russia trying to put missiles in Mexico.
(And it's not Russia that's gone to war under every presidential administration since President Carter, either.)
If Russia has treated it's former eastern european slave states better they would not have been clamoring to get into NATO.
If Russia had not invaded Korea and installed a stalinist regime in the North, the rogue state NKs would not be threatening Japan and the US with long range missiles capable of carrying nukes, and the US would not have needed to develop a missile defense system and void the ABM treaty.
Speaking from your own ignorance? Bill Clinton expanded NATO in 1999 and Bush II expanded it in '04.
Bush I had promised in 1990 that the US wouldn't try to push its military alliance eastward. The deal was that the Soviet Union would agree to E. Germany joining W. Germany in NATO under the condition that NATO wouldn't expand after that.
Where does North Korea come into this issue? That would just an extension of your Russophobia, right?
I) "First off NATO doesn't actually have any real power in the world."
Oh, really? Even though it outspends every other military alliance, and Europe's military budget combined would still outspend Russia's even if we exclude the United States?
You can start with Wikipedia's "List of countries by military expenditures".
II) "Second it never put missiles on Russia's borders."
They're anti-missile missiles. And they cancel out Russia's military deterrent, which would let the US score a nuclear hit first, without having to think of retaliation from Russia.
And if (as averageworkinggal claims) the missiles probably wouldn't be able to stop the Russians, why has the US been wanting to put them there? For fun?
"Goddamn the Russian media sucks cock"
I'm an American. It helps get alternative perspectives.
Like you would be able to stop 500 simultaneous missile launches. The US put them there for offensive purposes, not defensive. Russia knows this that's why they're protesting.
inbrooklyn2008, its true the missiles reduce Russia's military deterrent, but it doesn't eliminate it, because the missiles don't always hit the targeted missile, but like 70% of the time. It would reduce the effect of aRussian nuclear strike, not negate it.
You're right about alternative perspectives though, that's why i subscribe to this channel. But compare to Al Jazeera or even the American news media, i agree that RT sucks
Then why not put them in Israel? Isn't that Iran's likeliest target?
Or, as the Russians suggested, why not put them in Azerbaijan, which actually shares a border with Iran?
Everybody - everybody - knows that the missiles are there as a weapon against the Russians. And the Poles ratified their presence when their president took a hard line in the midst of the Georgia Crisis. The "we're defending against Iran" part is a sham by all of the indendent observers.
France isn't the only power in NATO. And France and Britain are both nuclear powers.
Taken together, the European nations spend more money (that's several times over) than the Russian Federation does.
And here you are lambasting the Russian media for giving their take on the story! Incidentally, the poor-little-NATO-can't-do-anything-without-us line has always been pushed by the American right-wing.
It's their trusty perennial excuse for dumping even more of the GDP on weapons and wars.
Maybe it has no clear cause for attack now, but what happens 20 years down the road? Don't you think Russia might be concerned about that, especially seeing as NATO's biggest member has been invading a new country, on avg., every two-three years since 1980? (Most media-informed Americans appear to have forgotten the repeated incursions into Haiti, the invasions of Panama and Nicaragua, et cetera.)
And what about NATO as a poltical threat to Russia's geostrategic interests?
First off all those where done by the US alone. Now frankly I think we need something like Article 9 in Japan but the point is none of them were done by NATO.
Second unless part of Russia's geostrategic interests include attacking North America then it really doesn't affect them.
I mean honestly Russia is being a big baby about all this.
"Second unless part of Russia's geostrategic interests include attacking North America then it really doesn't affect them"
No, those geostrategic interests could include things like good relations with its neighbors.
Which would be harder to achieve if NATO not only counters its diplomatic efforts, but has the lever of militarily pressure. The missile shield would help realize that possibility.
Well first of all he is the man who raised Russia from it's knees after the evil Soviet Union left our country in bits..
The other thing is that he is supported and loved by over 90% of Russia..(and it's our choice).
The other thing that our country trough it's history was allways ruled by tzars or one strong man leaders. Every time some soft leader comes into Russian Government our country suffers for centuries like with last tzar Nikolai....
Unfortunately he didn't had enough balls for our huge country and communists took over Russia (and our nation had to fight against ourselves many have suffered those days because russian people at the time didn't wanted communism so as other close by countries had to live in communism for centuries)
The other one was Elzcin who was a clown and the hole world was loughing of us when our president was an alcoholic)
So now after centuries we got our strong leaders at last....
We are not a threat to the world as some (like U.S. prefer to show us)
Before the Soviet Union came to our country we were a strong and equaly respected nation..
The hole Russian nation is glad to see a proper government for ourselves i think we deserved it after all those years..
I mean when we talk of 1/8 of all land surface which have all the possible resources it's obviouse that some may not like the idea of a succesfull Russia BUT unfortunately for them that's were we're going very fast..
:)) You know there's a hat of Monomax which was used to crown tzars in Russia before :)) I would say that all russians would give it to Putin to become a tazr back to the monarchy :)))
I mean when some are saying that Putin is ex KGB and he is bad and so on... what's there business for our government it's our internal problems.. For example i don't stick my nose into English queens roots or Australian government so why should others bother about us ??!! ...
I agree that some neighbour countries and especially some of ex Soviet countries don't like us much just because they use to be in USSR but we don't want back there either and we didn't wanted it at the time.. Soviets made lots of shit around it's borders but it's history just like Rome Empire and Nazi regime in Germany and WE all have to step over it..
By the way as i asume Bush was an ex CIE agent (but some how nobody cared about it much)..
And setting AM shield and so on we don't make this world safer and we don't make much of friendship by that it's just worsens the situation and tensions..
And as we showed in Russian-Turkish wars, Russian French wars, WW1, WW2 we are very strong when we feel threatened...
So that's a brief view on the situation as i could explain in comments :)
P.s. Besides After all those wars of Russian-German and Russian-French relations are pretty good and in my country they are well respected by people.
Gorkova79, unless you are one of Russia's billionaires (their numbers have shrunk in half during this crisis), you and your family is up for some hard times. If you live 20 km out of Moscow or SPB, where ordinary Russians live, you are headed for even tougher times. Very few Russians are really rich, probably only the ones who live in the two cities. Already, people are demonstrating in Russian cities in the Far East because of taxes on imported cars that affect their livelihood there.
Gorkovka79, here's from Newsweek: In December, riot police had to be flown to Vladivostok, on Russia's Pacific coast, to crush demonstrations against new taxes on imported cars. Within the past two weeks, thousands have taken to the streets in Moscow, Vladivostok, Novosibirsk, Volgograd and Ulan-Ude. In Vladivostok they stood, shouting anti-Putin slogans, in temperatures of close to zero Fahrenheit.
Show respect for your enemies and friends They wil give respect Back We ar all Hummans and we ar all Fam
Wy ar you Hating Russia so mutch As specialy in this time we all need to work togeter For a better Futurer For all Of us or ar you stil a Man or woman from the 60s whos Hearth Never Left The Cold War and is stil stuck in ww2 and depresd behind his Computer if so Try to Imagian your Grandfathers had respect for the enemies And You should to For others Give and get is a close Thing !
For better or for worst, it is better for both Russia and China to see the US recover. Russia needs commodities to go back up and China needs a place to sell her cheap poisonous goods.
I know that , I live in NYC where many Russian nationals live. Alot of the doctors and nurses I work with are Russian also , and most of them are really nice. I have nothing against Russians or anyone. I travel alot outside the US.
I agree with you, Russians are very nice and hospitable people, but do not engage them in political debate!LOL! If you do, you'll end up in the Gulags, shot, killed, poisoned, or in the case of YouTube, you'll be flamed with endless profanity!!
Yeah.. You partly right. But i'd say 'Russian government' will kill you, not russians)))
Our government is a big evil, same as US gov and doesn't care about us. They just play a big game with gas, oil and money and we just a meat, slaves, soldiers that they can use anytime they want..
So i see no reason to hate each other, because people are people and we all the same, poor, sick and hungry. We should hate that fat fuckers in government.

Your moral equivalency argument is typical of the despotic, and nonsensical as usual.
The US did not have gangs of proxy thugs entering villages conducting ethnic cleansing operations as the Russians did in Georgia.
It's the enemy (Taliban) that are invading villages in Afghanistan and imposing brutal sharia law such as beheadings.
It's the enemy (Alqaeda and other Islamonazi terrorists) that are suicide bombing Iraqi civilians.

And yet Saakashvili had just attacked a province that had never, ever been under Georgian rule.
(They have enjoyed de facto independence ever since the end of the Soviet Union.)
Chances are they did it thinking they'd get a green light from the US.
Incidentally, the Russians withdrew back to their positions within months, so they merely pushed things back to the pre-conflict status quo.
Far, far milder than what NATO did in an essentially analogous situation -- in Kosovo.

The GMD system for Europe is not placed where it could intercept Russian Nukes.
The interceptors would not be launched until a launch was detected and radar surveillence acquired and developed a precision track.
Then an interception would have to be planned before launch. It takes too long.
That would put the interceptors in tail chase mode and they do not have the velocity of the Russian nukes and cannot catch them.
It's false to say that the GMD Eurosite could threaten the Russian Nukes.

And here you are lambasting the Russian media for giving their take on the story! Incidentally, the poor-little-NATO-can't-do-anything-without-us line has always been pushed by the American right-wing.
It's their trusty perennial excuse for dumping even more of the GDP on weapons and wars.

Russia has a cause for concern giving NATO's clear threat of attack...not.
Seriously NATO has no cause to do anything and Russia is just being paranoid because of their lack of military strength.
NATO not only doesn't have a reason to threaten Russia but is essentially pointless at this time.
Other then fucking Venezuela and maybe some other authoritarian regimes Russia is the only country complaining.
KidsTrax 2 years ago
Maybe it has no clear cause for attack now, but what happens 20 years down the road? Don't you think Russia might be concerned about that, especially seeing as NATO's biggest member has been invading a new country, on avg., every two-three years since 1980? (Most media-informed Americans appear to have forgotten the repeated incursions into Haiti, the invasions of Panama and Nicaragua, et cetera.)
And what about NATO as a poltical threat to Russia's geostrategic interests?
Or its allies?
inbrooklyn2008 2 years ago
First off all those where done by the US alone. Now frankly I think we need something like Article 9 in Japan but the point is none of them were done by NATO.
Second unless part of Russia's geostrategic interests include attacking North America then it really doesn't affect them.
I mean honestly Russia is being a big baby about all this.
KidsTrax 2 years ago
"First off all those where done by the US alone."
And? The US is a NATO nation. Remember?
"Second unless part of Russia's geostrategic interests include attacking North America then it really doesn't affect them"
No, those geostrategic interests could include things like good relations with its neighbors.
Which would be harder to achieve if NATO not only counters its diplomatic efforts, but has the lever of militarily pressure. The missile shield would help realize that possibility.
inbrooklyn2008 2 years ago
KidsTrax, would you be happy if Russia were setting up a missile defense system in Mexico?
inbrooklyn2008 2 years ago
If Mexico was suddenly a crazy theocracy with nuclear weapons and the rest of the world approved not really.
Note the system is designed to fend off from Iran which I doubt knows how to use nuclear weapons wisely.

"Sorry Putin our nations can't be allies, NATO is just way stronger then Russia and we frankly can't have weak nations as our allies."
KidsTrax 2 years ago
:)) I don't want to say that BUT...
When some guys comment something like "we "NATO" are so cool and you Russians are so evil.." i just want to say..
If your NATO shit will get too close:)
Just to remind you "We have enough nukes to destroy the HOLE world 10 TIMES :)
So think when you try to iritate our country..
If in your plans there's now place for us well we won't leave anyone behind :)))
If you don't want to be friends with Russia "That's fine" BUT you better "Don't make us your enemy" ;)
DuffyD1982 2 years ago
I know Russians aren't evil It's just annoying to see them so paranoid over something that doesn't even effect them.
Can someone please explain to me why Putin is so loved in Russia despite the fact that he basiclly eliminated a lot of personal freedoms?
KidsTrax 2 years ago
Fair juice dude ! :))
I'll try to explain.
DuffyD1982 2 years ago
Unfortunately he didn't had enough balls for our huge country and communists took over Russia (and our nation had to fight against ourselves many have suffered those days because russian people at the time didn't wanted communism so as other close by countries had to live in communism for centuries)
The other one was Elzcin who was a clown and the hole world was loughing of us when our president was an alcoholic)
So now after centuries we got our strong leaders at last....
DuffyD1982 2 years ago
We are not a threat to the world as some (like U.S. prefer to show us)
Before the Soviet Union came to our country we were a strong and equaly respected nation..
The hole Russian nation is glad to see a proper government for ourselves i think we deserved it after all those years..
I mean when we talk of 1/8 of all land surface which have all the possible resources it's obviouse that some may not like the idea of a succesfull Russia BUT unfortunately for them that's were we're going very fast..
DuffyD1982 2 years ago
:)) You know there's a hat of Monomax which was used to crown tzars in Russia before :)) I would say that all russians would give it to Putin to become a tazr back to the monarchy :)))
I mean when some are saying that Putin is ex KGB and he is bad and so on... what's there business for our government it's our internal problems.. For example i don't stick my nose into English queens roots or Australian government so why should others bother about us ??!! ...
DuffyD1982 2 years ago
I agree that some neighbour countries and especially some of ex Soviet countries don't like us much just because they use to be in USSR but we don't want back there either and we didn't wanted it at the time.. Soviets made lots of shit around it's borders but it's history just like Rome Empire and Nazi regime in Germany and WE all have to step over it..
By the way as i asume Bush was an ex CIE agent (but some how nobody cared about it much)..
And as for today by abusing our gevernment and...
DuffyD1982 2 years ago
And setting AM shield and so on we don't make this world safer and we don't make much of friendship by that it's just worsens the situation and tensions..
And as we showed in Russian-Turkish wars, Russian French wars, WW1, WW2 we are very strong when we feel threatened...
So that's a brief view on the situation as i could explain in comments :)
P.s. Besides After all those wars of Russian-German and Russian-French relations are pretty good and in my country they are well respected by people.
DuffyD1982 2 years ago
I strong country that feels threatened? Come on there's a contradiction there ;)

AtilladHun 2 years ago
Gorkovka79, here's from Newsweek: In December, riot police had to be flown to Vladivostok, on Russia's Pacific coast, to crush demonstrations against new taxes on imported cars. Within the past two weeks, thousands have taken to the streets in Moscow, Vladivostok, Novosibirsk, Volgograd and Ulan-Ude. In Vladivostok they stood, shouting anti-Putin slogans, in temperatures of close to zero Fahrenheit.

For better or for worst, it is better for both Russia and China to see the US recover. Russia needs commodities to go back up and China needs a place to sell her cheap poisonous goods.

Than you will lose in Afganistan, Georgia, Ukraine...
and have colosal problems with Russia and China !

I hope US / Russia relations become better , especially since I am having serious thoughts of visiting Russia latter this year as a tourist.
yaspeedyrn1975 3 years ago 5
Do you think they'll spit at you only because you're American? We Russians are generally hospitable, no matter where you come from.
keklolbur 3 years ago 4
I know that , I live in NYC where many Russian nationals live. Alot of the doctors and nurses I work with are Russian also , and most of them are really nice. I have nothing against Russians or anyone. I travel alot outside the US.
yaspeedyrn1975 3 years ago
I agree with you, Russians are very nice and hospitable people, but do not engage them in political debate!LOL! If you do, you'll end up in the Gulags, shot, killed, poisoned, or in the case of YouTube, you'll be flamed with endless profanity!!
DrxKavorkian 3 years ago
