  • isnt this jazz? why then isnt Jazz selected in the tags? aint blues with all the horns, is some funk tho :-)

  • no way. this is the BLUES.

  • BB King, Albert King, T-Bone Walker, howling wolf all had horns in their songs. THE BLUES my man.

but Rufus leans a lot towards funk, thats for sure.

  • It's straight up R&B folks. Blues + jazz + danceable rhythms that would later be called "funky" = rhythm & blues.

  • The group backing Rufus were Tony Knight's Chessmen. Tony Brown on drums, Terry Martin on bass, Lol Coxhill on Alto, Jeff Reid on organ and John Gummer on Sax. They worked out of the Rik Gunnell agency. I'm married to Terry Martin.

  • Any other gems of theirs on You Tube?

  • I'm prety sure thisfrom the UK show 'Ready Steady Go' - I'm sure I saw this already on an RSG comp show years ago. Can't identify any of the musicians, though, but I reckon they are British.

  • You are spot on it is Ready Steady Go I have most of the show recorded on Betamax from about 1985. Channel 4 showed them around teatime I think they were repeated again later on possibly on the same evening.

  • Tony Knights Chessmen were British and it was Ready Steady Go. Tony Brown on drums, Terry Martin on bass guitar, Lol Coxhill on alto, Jeff on organ and John Gummer on sax. They worked out of the Rik Gunnell agency.
