This is my jam! Honey, I would get dressed to this my sophmore year; dating college guys and going out with the girls that had cars. Dancing at stop lights...it was a great time for me in the 90's! Thanks Abstract
I think I've said it before, but these women were visually and somewhat vocally, what En Vogue came to be. EV just took it further and perfected it. Good, tho'.
I remember working in the mall when this was released. It played on the wet seal video screens all day! Everyone in the store was always dancing to it when you passed by the store.
I was in my second year of college when this jam came out & we used to bump this all the time. Of course we watched the video too because they were all so fine!
Yo, JellyBean2144 :):):), I remember those EXCORT GT's, hahaha. Everyone wanted one. Let me bring you back some more. You remember those extremely small 13" rims dudes use to rock on the cars. They use to bow like crazy, but people LOVED them. An I KNOW, you remember when EVERYONE had "5-Star rims", like FITTAPALDI's? Those use to be SICK. Also, those gold or black BBS meshed rims that came on Beemers and Benzito's. Yo kid, those were some FLY times, PEACE!!!
These Sista's were MAD FLY, I was feeling this from beat one. I caught this jam on "Rap City" with the Major Chris, by accident back in 1989. I loved it from then on. I went out and bought the single cassette that night. Ya'll remember when we use to buy cassette singles, and 45's? DAMN I miss those days. Everyone was "Hungry" in the music business, and you got the FULL & AUTHENTIC energy from the artists. Today, all you get are TUPPERWARE TALENTS, who can't even rap, muchless sing!!!
I didn't realize Teddy had produced this, but I can certainly hear it now. We had one of the few Pop stations that played this...it only got to #89 on the Pop chart, but I think it made about #22 on the R&B chart.
@KHALEELSMOMMIE .....bro, I was in love with your mom...no offense. I don't know if I love the song because of her or loved her because of the song. Either way, your father was a lucky guy. peace.
I remember coming home from school, watching this on Video Music Box while I ate Vanilla Wafers and grape Kool-Aid! Thanks for the memories. Big up to Topaz and Shadina!

I been looking for a hype, I been looking for the right guy. I need someone to talk to,I need someone by my side. They sing exactly what I am looking for. Who posted this song? Thanks!
People just dont know how powerful New Jack swing was I was in my teens then and the impact of this sound could only be described as club banging. You could dance hard or just swing with it. The music was really fuller with color and energy that kept everybody on the floor. I Loved this beautiful sisters they had class and were on some high style ish. Big ups Abstrac. Get this album its a killer.
Oh my god ! I was singing this song one day and no one remembered it. this song came out when i was like 12 or 13 yrs old so many memories, thank u 4 this!
I was 13 in 1990 when this came out. It's a shame that they didn't stay around for long. Who knows, maybe they would be right up there with En Vogue, TLC, and Destiny's Child.
We both came from the same era when it was real music. It ain't like I'm a teenager. I was in middle school, and we would have school parties. They didn't play this song, but they did play other New Jack songs.
I am feeling on that - we are definitely from the era when music was REAL! It wasn't played at the parties I went to either...I had it on cassette back then and I will be downloading it to cd...and playing it my next house party!
Wow. I only been to two house parties in my teenage life. One was my cousin's birthday party, and the other was our class of '95 party. Other than that, I was never a party type of person. I pretty much stay to myself. I only have one or two friends in my lifetime, but that doesn't mean that I didn't boogie back then. My friend and I would do the running man, the MC Hammer, and all that.
LOL! I guess you could say I am mixture - I stay to myself as well and am quiet for the most part, but I can cut a rug and socialize when I am comfortable. I love music! Ole school and Jazz or my fav...check these two videos out - Bobby Caldwell "what u wont do for love" and Ray Parker - I don't think that man should sleep alone
OMFG!!!!! I remember that song by Ray Parker Jr.!!!!!! I was 10 back in '87 when that song was out. I haven't heard that song since it first came out in '87. WOW!!! I love that song. I also love that Bobby Caldwell song, too.
HEY! Have you viewed them yet? You have to watch all video versions of Bobby Caldwell's what you wont do for love...they are all off the hook! Ray Parker's video got me HOT all over again!!!
Yes, I haven't heard that song by Ray Parker Jr. for 20 years, and when I saw that video hear, I was thinking to myself like, "This is a blast from the past!!! I haven't seen Bobby Caldwell yet, but I'm going to.
Love this video, brings back a lot of memories. Does anyone remember a group similiar to this one named Mahogany Black? Three girl group with a new jack swing sound. Nostalgia, can't believe this video is about 17 years old, keep them coming.
It ended around '92-'93 when MJB, Jodeci, Toni Braxton, SWV, etc. were coming out. It was kinda like a transitional thing. It gradually faded out and was pretty much a wrap by late-'93. Great era though!
Interesting - while MJB, Jodeci, and SWV had a New-Jack-swing type of sound, Toni Braxton definitely did not. Are you saying that New Jack Swing ceased being a distinct, separate sub-genre b/c it basically became the mainstream style of R&B by '92/'93? Because what was thought of as "mainstream R&B" when New Jack Swing made its debut started becoming extinct as hip-hop-driven, New-Jack type of R&B took over the music charts. (Toni Braxton might have been the last big star of the former.)
And...who the hell are you, to jump into a PRODUCTIVE and ENLIGHTENING discussion between two other posters. I think YOU need to take your dumb ass and BUTT OUT. Hate ignorant people like yourself...try reading everybody's comments before shooting unnecessary garbage out of your mouth, stupid little punk.
Even thought MJB, Toni, SWV, etc., all had New Jack Swing type-of-sounding songs, those artists also ushered in a "new" course/style of Urban music that progressed throughout the 90s, at least until the late 90s. MJB's "Real Love" is sort of "New Jack" sounding, as was Toni's first appearance on a hit single, in Babyface's "Give U My Heart", as that also had heavy New Jack Swing influence. But R&B mellowed out (and definitely became more "freaky" and sexual lol) as the decade progressed.
I think Hercules meant New Jack Swing in general became a wrap by late 1993....and it really ended before then, as the sound on urban radio was almost totally different in 1994...it began incorporated a more "mellow", Zhane-type, West Coast "sound" (like Brandy's "I Wanna Be Down", Adina Howard's "Freak Like Me", etc.)...ya feel me. On a side note, although Riley IS the pioneer of New Jack Swing, I prefered Babyface's brand of the sound LOL.
But when it right down to it I believe the woman in the green top is the mother, but i dont know, she look older than the lead singer plus my mom use to wear her hair the same way 17 years ago.
I believe that this was a mother and her two daughters... The thing about it is that you can't tell which one is the mom... Eitherway, this was a HOT song back in the day... Thanks for posting!
I never thought I would hear this song again! I had a 12" single years and years ago, and I LOVED this song. I had all but given up on ever hearing it again. Even though the sound is rough here, it is great to see.
