"FIVE INCREDIBLE YOUNG PEOPLE WITH SUPERPOWERS!!!" complete LIES. They didn't have any damn superpowers! Every time the programme came on I sat enraptured waiting for the superpowers to start and there never were any! Except for that totally effing lame spinning human pyramid thing they did. THAT was their superpower?! Feh. Well, they had super capes, at least. Nice spaceship, though. One of our pals Steven got called Steven Dork Steven.
@demoskunk They wanted to jump on the Star Wars craze and wanted their own "R2-D2". I was 5 yo in the 70's and enjoyed the show. Today I'm more a fan of the tv theme.
@Graffitti74 That's exactly right. I read about the history of the show, and it's pretty fascinating. I was 5 in '79, loved the show then, and also still love the theme song. It's epic.
Today, I love watching Condor Joe be such a violent, angry loner in the original :) I'm glad I saw this show in whatever version when I was a kid because it has influenced my drawing style and inspired me to be an animator.
Gatchaman (this thing had so many AKAs) <<< man i used to hate this anime, watched it cos nothing else was on, might watch the movie tho, it actually looks alright, Rurouni Kenshin (Samurai X) & DBZ was my thing.
Battle of the Planets, with the campest space-villain in history. Zoltar with his pink lipstick and 70's Glam-rock costume getting ready to rock out at Glasto.
Looking back it is very obvious that Sandy Frank was trying to cash in on the whole Star Wars phenomenon....his invention of 7-Zark-7, adventures taking place in outer space (when everything actually happened on earth), the added disco tracks & the voice of Casey Kasem. If you're a fan of Battle of The Planets then I highly recommend watching "Gatchaman" as there is so much more to the characters & their overall mission.
I am now 23 of 105 episodes into it's 1972 original "Gatchaman" series & I have to admit, Sandy Frank really butchered the hell out of it with 1978's "Battle Of The Planets." I was 11 at the time & I too was a fan but after watching "Gatchaman" I now feel as though a part of my childhood was PLAYED.
@3Deity I've long wondered if they got their name from Star Blazers - Princess Invidia, of the Comet Empire (Season 2). In SB, Prince Zordar's daughter, in Yamato, his lover (not sure of her Yamato name though)
holy crap, I forgot about G force, I remember talking like kip all the time, drove my parent crazy. thanks for posting this and reminding me I'm getting old.
I won a plastic game thing at Hampstead Fair that you strapped to your wrist - used to watch this and then run around the garden talking into it. I was COOL as you like!
@defcon5i WHAAAAAT ??!! IT'S NOT REAL ???? Holy Shit !!! Damn!! I can't believe it. I thought it was real. Once again my beliefs are shattered against the wall of reality. First Santa Claus, Then my religion, and now Battle of the Planets.
Ahhh, the first anime I remember from the late 70's. I always hated that little robot that looks like R2D2. Come to find out, he was added to the American version to cover up the violent scenes........the good stuff in other words.
Right after this was Popeye. Good old days of 5 channels. What did we ever do????
@Peabodicle Oh, I know what you mean I too used to love watching that show and yip, I remember Popeye coming on after that as well. Man I miss the old cartoons.
Respond to this video... Thanks ferm. I've been wanting to see the G-Force gang again for QUITE SOME TIME and you made it happen. Really takes me back to those good old feelings on Saturday morning with a bowl of cereal in hand. THANKS ALOT. YOU ROCK! Now can you find any GRANDIZER episodes, please?
@mcskillby LOL I always thought it was spelled "agggggggt oot oot" .. or maybe that was Twiki. .. or the cat from Mr Rogers, idk, I get those 3 mixed up all the time.
@jordinyc - I don't know about the cat, but Twiki said; "Biddy biddy biddy, hiya Buck." or something like that, or was that the thing that he had hanging from his neck, Dr........???? something or other.
what?when was this? anyway I swear Jason was a trip was a cocky smart mouthed bad man. Also i remember when princess was trying to come onto Mark and Mark was like girl I don't like you like that I was like damnnnn
I always remember playing this as a kid. My two best friends always bagsied Mark and Jason first..so i always ended up being either the fat one, or a girl...
As the only girl who liked to play G force in like the 5th/6th grade, I was always Agatha June, but I was the real leader because whenever I kissed my neighbor (who always got to play Ace Goodheart), he would start rubbing dirt on his face and lose interest.
@kickballjedi LOL! that real made me laugh also. It's so funn to hear stuff from 20 to 30 years ago because they knew nothing like we know now. Beyond Space?!?! Really?!?! LOL!
Awesome intro-Star blazers got me here-Thanks 4 posting-I watched this as a kid but could never remember what this was called. Like starblazers desslok I always thought the bad guy in this was cool.
@RX78 A Actually star blazers wasn't that bad a dub, commpared to the lousy dub Gatachaman got. They did kind of de-japan-ify it a bit, but I cant really blame them, America in the 1970s wasnt ready yet for the idea idea of a WW-II era japanese warship being heroic. Other than that, Star blazers did get a pretty good dub it wasnt TOO butchered.
God, I forgot how corny the English narrator for this was. Gotta love the days we violently Hulk-smashed different animes together into a confusing mass of... something.
I had a lot of episodes of on tape, watched them to death. But the only episode I really remember is the one with a titanic bat-like battleship that could create hurricane winds with and fire massive wide-beam lasers from the front edges of its wings.
On second thought - threat of imminent destruction, crap clothes, crap food, dubious music. I'll stay here where I can occasionally wear my rose-tinted specs.
Then again - nothin's changed! Gimme my childhood back...
You are, of course, correct. Somehow in my mind I must have combined Zoltar with his "Eagle Riders" version, "Lukan". Still, I suspect the Luminous One's involvement.
I first saw this way back in 1979, when Tulsa, OK was one of the first cities in the ENTIRE USA to get cable television with many extra channels. It was because of the oil boom in that time frame!
Classic 80's my ass. I used to watch re-runs in the late 70's. I had to get up at 6AM to watch it. I remember watching it till 6:30 and playing Atari til 7. Then I had to get ready for school.
Stroke of genius...this cartoon was overwhelmingly cool in its day and time, particularly if you were of a young age. The Phoenix is the coolest plane....ever.
I love this series.Did you know that they had an another version of Gatchaman?Besides (Battle of the Planets,G- Force). It was called Eagle Riders and it came out in the 90's.Their names were Hunter Harris,Joe Thax, Kelly Jennar, Mickey Dugan, and Ollie Keeawani. There also was a Gatchaman Ova that came out in the 90's also.Their names were (Ken,Joe,June,Jimmy, and Rocky).
wow, what a trip back in time this is. next to Astroboy, and Inspector Gadget, (then Transformers a bit later, which completely took over!) this would've been my all-time favourite cartoon as a kid! even seeing their ship was a spin-out...I lost count of how many times I drew that!
@superflea72 I swear Youtube changes the timing to mess with us. Now 1:11 is right and 1:10 makes me look like I'm a.. a.. How dare you frame me youtube!!!LOL.
Astroboy, inspector Gadget and Transformers huh? Then you must also know Peter Russell Clark, Boris Breakfast Club (not near enough videos of him on YT), Agro the fly eater and upside down, upside down!!! The showsthat I used to think dragged on and on and stopped me from watching my fav cartoons but now I remember with fond memories. :)
@700gsteak lol, Peter Russel Clarke - where's the cheese? ;)
have you seen the vids on YouTube of his outtakes to that show where he's swearing and stuff? what a cracker, he was an Oz legend - a real character. and yes, I'm from that era hehe. if you like old cartoons and are up for a really cool blast from the past - check out Roger Glover's Butterfly Ball...
after watching gatchaman on YouTube...I can't stand watching battle of the planets...yes it was cool back in the day...but damn they took out alot of shit...and with was up with the robot...I know they added him in as filler for the good stuff they took out but come on...really...did they really need a robot as filler:(
@jimjr155 Yes, I remember this. It started around 1978 or possibly '79 and carried into syndication(rereuns) from 1980. I was like in 8th grade when it first came out. I liked it a lot. I still love the music introduction to this show. What a great era that was! This is a nice video! Thanks for uploading and sharing it here! Fantastic memories for me!
I watched this every morning when I was 7. This song really energized me! When the fiery phoenix came to life I was like, "awww yeah"! Not until a few years ago did I realize this was my first japanime!
Thumbs up if you thought princess was a babe when you were going through puberty. Click and hold on 1:11 There's a bit of manga porn going on there for sure. lol
G-Force the series Battle of the Planets man this was the cartoon of all cartoons. The intro was and still is so awsome and Mark, Jason, Princess, Kyop, and Tiny the unforgettable G-Force team. Can't forget 7 Zark 7 and his robot dog 1 Rover 1 and Susan 7 Zark 7's computer voice assistant. There's also Dr Anderson the director of Centre Neptune and no one can forget Zoltar and the computerized Lumanus Leader and Zoltar's incompatent generals. G-Force dedicated, inseperable and invincable.

70s cartoon, carried into the 80s in re-runs
jimjr155 6 months ago
@jimjr155 Yes, I remember this. It started around 1978 or possibly '79 and carried into syndication(rereuns) from 1980. I was like in 8th grade when it first came out. I liked it a lot. I still love the music introduction to this show. What a great era that was! This is a nice video! Thanks for uploading and sharing it here! Fantastic memories for me!

I used to love this show! This and Starblazers were my 2 favorite shows I had to see before I went out to play after school back in the 80's!!!
