  • This report shows that the MOD and BAE were slipshod and money-grabbing jobsworths. The labour party had little to do with it. Time to cut the RAF budget, (to nil.) and to sack the culprits named in this report..

  • It would be moronic to punish the MOD/RAF with a budget cut, because of failing to do a job properly, which is entirely due to poor funding in the first place. They continued to use the ancient and dangerous Nimrods was because Labour wouldnt supply the MOD with the funding for half decent equipment as is their DUTY, since we have outsourced the right to defend ourselves to the state.

  • But thats exactly what you Eurocrats want isnt it? An impotent Britain which will play nicely and unquestioningly pump as much of our money as possible into the quangos and other self-serving state employed parasites, be they in Britain or Brussels, so they can tell us how to live our lives.

  • Oi! First off, c*nt, don`t start with "moronic", ok, you want insults, or you want logic? The report says that the RAF and MOD were negligent, it doesn`t mention anything about insufficient funds or politics. The report also names those men, who put career and financial gain above the safety of those under their command. Nimrods crash because of inferior design, and slipshod maintainance... not because of the tories or the lib-dems or even the bloody labour party.

  • It would be moronic for gov. to cut the budget to zero - Is that what you seriously suggest? It was not a personal insult unlike yours was to me. I apologise anyhow.

  • Ah, OK, apology accepted..... However, after reading parts of the report, it seems that there were reviews and inspections of the aircraft that were not properly done. (Mostly BAE/Quinetic.) Instead, various players ignored procedure and signed off work that had not been efficiently done. At the very least, these people should no longer be on the payroll, and indeed, an appearance in a court of law for negligence and manslaughter is needed.

  • (Cont.d) On the subject of zero budget, well, there are European nations with no airforce. Iceland and Ireland aren`t playing the aviation game, and seem not to be threatened by attacks from elsewhere.

Peace doesn`t come from having the biggest airforce or army, it comes from having none at all. You used the phrase "self-serving state employed parasites", to describe politicians in Europe, and yet how easy it is to see those employed in the defense sector as being just that. Cheers.

  • I agree that if/where there has been negligence by individuals or companies supplying the MoD that they should be fully accountable. However, I think this inquiry paints only part of the story.

Well, unlike the unelected quangos and officials who have luxuries paid for by the UK tax payer at the cost the £64billion per year and take away our democratic freedoms, defence of its citizens is surely the state's prime concern as we have outsourced this important responsibility to it.

  • As you might guess, I`m not English, and tend to look at this matter as a case of a government with overly large defense spending, without adequate oversight or control, that has culminated in the deaths of those who had little notion of the malpractices of their superiors. Both the US and the UK have built up huge reserves of weaponry and munitions, only to find that against a determined native guerilla force.... that they are unable to prevail.

  • IMO: I'm not sure I agree that peace is directly related to the size or potency of armed forces, but only the desire to destroy peace. A potent force of a peaceful party may act as a deterrent to the opportunistic or violent. Without adequate defence a group is open to whoever wills to come along and subject it and 'all covenants without the sword are but mere words' to paraphrase Hobbes. It is not uncommon for small states to outsource their defence to potent allies (esp. US).

  • Hi again,

The good folks in Ireland were forced to accept the rule of the invading English crown, and after almost 800 years of occupation, with just a few rifles and home made IED`s, they drove out the British armed forces. I agree that defence is important, but when those tasked with defence, start attacking other nations, then the argument of deterrence has little standing. The English government is highly unlikely to try and recapture Dublin, which has no airforce at all.....:)

  • Does the foaming incompetence of Labour know no bounds? Its Labour politicians who are to blame. They went to war against the will of 70% of the population AND continually cut defence spending. Yet they blame the engineers who have to do a job with diminishing resources.

Like the 'banking' crisis. Politicians create legislation to put pressure on the banks to lend to people who can't pay it back to and then blame the bankers when it inevitably goes tits up. The solution? More legislation!

  • Please read the report properly and leave out the political rhetoric. The report clearly identifies the mis managed safety case put out by BAe systems and not any thing to do with any government. A series of modifications over the years introduced an ignition source and without the tight control of the MOD IPT (Integrated Project Team) and lax independent observance by QineticQ the whole process was flawed. The personality clashes were a major contributing factor in the inept safety case.

  • My point in previous posts was that the ancient Nimrods should have been replaced years ago - A320 type aircraft perhaps which would have saved money longer term (as well as life). Given the billions spent on quangos etc which are funded by the taxpayer my point is that gov. priorities are botched. This war in combo with inadequate defence equipment is another example of this.

  • Labour yet again let down British Troops in the field. If a Government cant afford to go to war, cant take responsibility for the troops under its command and have very little backing from the public to go to war. DONT go to war!.

  • I nearly never respond to comments posted on you tube, but when so many people died in this crash and yet get Muppets like Sticky Fingers (and who gives a stuff if you had first comment) and dcjhrj leaving dumb comments you have to wonder how many brain cells they share between them. You are both idiots.

  • how long will they beat this dead horse
