Telling a guy you like him is the fastest way to end things. They think you want to get married next week and have five babies next month just because you're fond of them. This unfortunately gets worse as they age, not better. Tell a guy "I love your name" and they'll hear "I love you". Hell, tell a guy "I hate you" and they hear "I love you".

@JLoveBomb Absolutely. Because all guys are the same. There is nothing to distinguish one guy from any other, and because one guy is a douche, it therefore follows that all guys are douches.

Here's an excellent rule of thumb: if you make a general statement about 'guys' or 'girls' or 'chinese people': you're wrong. It's really that simple. There is too much diversity within the human race for these stupid groupings to make accurate predictions.

@brilyn I was generalizing yes, but only to a degree similar to what's required to make any Savage Love reply generic enough to apply to its fans. It wouldn't be an accessible advice column if all answers were mega-personalized and tailored only to that specific person asking for advice. Factoring in every little nuance that creates the individual's situation isn't the task. Dan has to generalize broadly. I was doing the same. Of course I'm aware there are exceptions. I'm mindful. :)
