  • This version of the band actually reminds me of Minutemen a little bit.

  • How the hell did Jandek and this slappy bassist find each other? And how long has he had this burning hunk of funk within him?

  • @shuckslbj I would really like to know the answers to both of your great questions here!

  • Wished he'd have remained obscure and hidden because that mystique was compelling, but can't fault him for wanting to emerge.

  • surreal!

  • Looked like ol' Jandek was going to have a good time after the show there as well...

  • It looks like Jandek is having a fun. That's a good thing.

But this crap is destroying his uniqueness.

  • too much flanger, sounds horrible and talentless

  • @gauchebag FUCK YOU don't talk shit on JANDEK

  • For a second, I thought Jandek might actually be able to play the guitar.

And then around 1:35 I realized that he wasn't actually playing anything up until then.

  • dank ass shit

  • What Jandek's contribution lacks in formal musicianship he makes up for in 'balance'. It's the right sort of wrong at the right time. Of course, with a less able rhythm section it might well have been a total mess, although I note that Jandek manages to end on a totally appropriate 'chord' which implies that he may well know much more than he's letting on - and after 30 plus albums he must have learned something!

  • @palmerstonian - I always find it funny when people say Jandek 'can't play'. First of all, by virtue of the fact that he produces noises, he obviously is physically capable; also, I hear repeated riffs in his pieces, and I can whistle along with many of his tracks (not so much READY FOR THE HOUSE, but later stuff).

  • My friend, who is a fan of Jandek, told me to watch this and comment before anyone states, "if you do not like it don't watch it".

I am totally fine with abstract music and art, in general. Basically I see this music as a waste of time. It is a guy talking over an atonal guitar tuning and some decent slap bass. So long as he is having fun with it and can make a living doing what he does, the more power to him.

  • This is one awesome performance. The rhythm section are GODS. Who ARE these guys? And Jandek is sooooooo fucking cool.

  • You cannot beat that clanky hobnail janky...

  • Bassist is the clear and undisputed highlight of this website youtube.com let alone this ONE highlight of Jandek's career.

  • THE FUCK?

  • muhfuckahs aint even trippin n shit

  • Jandek Comes Alive

  • Smiling? in MY Jandek live performance?

  • this kind of reminds me of Patrice Rushen's "Forget Me Nots"

  • This is out of this world...but some how it makes sense that this is what he would do for his first ever home town show. The fact that Jandek actually seems into it, makes him all the more weird....no one is more fascinating.

  • this is crazy

  • truly a man that lives and breathes music, always looking for something fresh. also, very nice to see him get applauded, i mean, for someone who's been doing this for so long without an actual audience, it must mean a lot to him, the recognition. he looks so thrilled!

  • truly this man lives and breathes music. always looking for something new. funk, guitar noise (which jandek basically invented) and his unique vocals. hell of a mix.

  • Do you think the rhythm section has ever heard a Jandek record?

  • this was one of the best days of my life

  • wow such rich instrumentation, that's not usual for jandek's music, did i miss something, was this ever released for studio stuff?

  • @Abraxas80 - nothing he's ever performed live has been on a studio record. I do sometimes wish he'd make a non-solo record again (some of his earlier stuff has a 'band').

  • Looks like he's about to get molested by that pretty young woman at the end.

    Lucky man.

  • wtf??

jandek is almost making me like the slap bassist.

fuck this is weird, but damn that's why i love jandek so much. my favorite guitarist....

  • Jammin' Jandek

  • i like this because it's potentially offensive....i mean, most people probably went their expecting to hear some loose noisy music and they got a slap bass player and all........lol........and jandek is being himself which i suppose you love or hate.

  • @posthumanhero

this is what happened to me... it was absolutely fantastic, and i'm still loving it.

  • Jandek is as Jandek does! Amazing to see this guy actually out performing...

  • Does he do that a lot?

  • hahahahahahahahail Jandek!!! 666 \m/

  • A month later in his hometown, Houston, Jandek with four guests did a chamber music piece; a soundtrack-like theme for a suspense thriller in one, two or three movements for about an hour+. It was hard to tell whether there were any real breaks in the music. Jandek was seated playing electric bass with an alto sax(?) pleyer, a seated electric guitarist and synthesizer(?), a percussionist on a gong set and a second percussionist on a chime set. Another great Jandek set that most of Houston miss

  • OMMMMMMM INDEED ALEX.

    JANDEK 666.

  • hahahahaha fucking amazing. Jandek 4 life. Ommmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

  • i'm the bass player in this vid

  • So is fuctron your stage name?

  • no its me

  • @fuctron Really?

  • lol, the bass... Seindek

  • People dancing and making out @ a jandek show? This is the greatest video ever

  • LMAO

  • It would have been better if it was P-funked out.

  • lol jandek does what jandek does. whether he's with scottish experimental artists or some funk band in texas

  • He's pretty damn spry for 63.

  • Mos genius artistic coup'detat I've seen in ages.

  • Me and Jandek use the same amp. Hmmm.

  • what in gods name is he doing...

    this fucking rules

  • jandek is really coming out of his shell lol

  • i wonder what the girl @ 6:33 said to him

  • She said: "You look like a cowboy when you wear those boots."

  • She's a pretty thing whoever she is.

  • "I'm yr biggest fan"

  • He's smiling all the time, he has a sense of humour.

  • I am a huge fan of Jandek and have been for a number of years now. I've even had the pleasure of seeing the Rep live a few times. But this performance is just plain fucking awesome! I wish I could have been there.

  • THAT was incredible. I just wish I had been there!!!

  • whoaoooaooaoa, lexington ky usa love jandek!!!

  • Is this real?

  • So whats up.

  • well done for being an idiot.

  • Well done for being an idiot.

  • bass line LOOOL

  • primus meets david bryne meets unlikely career move

  • The only way this could have possibly been any cooler, would have been if THIS was Jandek's first show, not the Glasgow gig.

That would have fucked people up for sure,

  • That's fucking crazy!

  • JAMDEK!!

  • this is so fucking awesome.

  • the noisy vampire sets his phaser gun on funk

  • "Hello, I'm Jandek. Hope you like my new direction."

  • i hope he will release it and call it "ready for the funk".

(no, seriously, slap? bald bassist? flanger on the guitar? JANDEK? what the hell? i'm confused.)

  • he should recruit Rusted Shut as his backing band.

  • hahaha oh wow

  • Fucking HILARIOUS! Love it when the guitar finally kicks in...!

  • Regardless of how the kids took it sure looks like Jandek's having a ball!

  • This is sort of horrid.

  • it's better than excepter.

  • Horridly awesome?

  • sombody needs to tell that guy there's something new out called "food"....

  • Brilliant to see him in action with such an inappropriate-seeming band.

  • For everybody's information, this was the encore. Yes, believe it or not, an encore at a Jandek show.

It was an amazing thing to behold. Extremely high energy and the Corwood Rep. was obviously having a blast. He moved around a lot and smiled a lot.

I can't wait for the cd release of this. It was truly a milestone in Corwoodian history. I'll never forget it.

  • what the fuck?

  • You.

    Are.

    Lame.

  • This is so fucking odd, but great.

  • I was standing to the side next to the sound board. it was a fantastic. You can see my head by the dart board.

  • You painted your teeth!

  • Horrible. To me it seems that the rep didn't feel quite at home with "the funky guys", who obviously thought it was their "show".

  • no it is amazing

  • dude it was awesome. that guy was smiling the entire time. it was one of the coolest shows i have ever seen, ever. the rep was connected with the audience and was clearly enjoying himself.

  • never expected that. nice stuff.

  • YES!

  • insanity!
