@Paradiizean Well you certainly have more credentials than I. I'm a French student and lived in Paris for a year. But I've sung French operas before. While I appreciate the difficulty in singing a french "R" I don't think she should have rolled them. That was my complaint. I did however just learn that the French used to roll their "R"s and that just changed in the revolution as a way for the common folk to dissociate themselves from the royalty. Interesting.
For sooo Long, we have been looking for talent. That is what this show is for, not only that, but to give people the courage and Insperation they need to express themselves. @dkdid2011 If this is the best you've heard, I doubt you've heard too many performances of habanera. Please check out Elina Garanca, Rinat Shaham, Anna Katerina Antonacci, Denyce Graves, Jennifer Larmore. Then listen to Lys again. She isn't on pitch in places. She has a fantastic voice, but this is way too difficult for her.

So sorry but to those of you who know professional Opera singing! Piers was right, I am sorry to say. You can see that her training was minimal! I watch Opera almost every day! I love it! Howie is right on the point that she is making Opera for the masses, as the average person, really would think her singing of Opera is Superb! But in reality it is not, she would not make it past an Opera Contest against other Opera singers but on this Venue she has a chance! She needs more voice control!

While I appreciate that she's trying to mix things up by not pulling off the typical opera songs on the show, my thing is is that an opera singer has come in first or second every season since season 3... and then pretty much we never hear from them again except Jackie Evancho. I understand that it's talented but unless they are going to make it into a show (like HRH Prince Poppycock) then I don't really think we should support them so much on these shows.
Pierce needs to shut up. He's just mad because she's not singing a popular song. I don't think he has any idea how hard it is to learn a song in a language that u don't even speak. I noticed that in her last performance she sang "Bring Me to Life" by Evanescence and he was finally "wowed" by her performance because it was a popular song. I usually don't like singers winning this competition, because that is what American Idol is for. But I really enjoy Lys Agnes, she definitely deserves to win.

I find it particularly funny on that week, that there at least 3 good acts that got 2/3 of the judges on their feet, yet Piers never budged. Why is that? I know he was pretty negative of Lys, but that doesn't excuse him from giving the other two a Standing O.
She's damn good. Unfortunately, Team iLuminate is way ahead of everyone else this year and I can't see them losing unless there's a glitch with the wireless software the brilliant choreographer uses.

@ohanamaggie Unlike most Operatic singers, Lys has a specific tone that is so unique and amazing, as Jackie's you can tell, but her voice is standard if she was older. Lys has such a unique amazing voice, just magical. Jackie isn't a strong operatic singer, she has a soft and gentle voice, as Lys' voice is empowering and strong. I see Jackie becoming a great singer when older, but Lys' voice is stronger than Jackie's, even when she becomes older, I like Lys' tone alot better.

To properly sing classical music you need to support, and you can't use full support at a young age because it'll create a wobble when the singer ages. Therefore, yes, Lys' voice is stronger than Jackie's because Jackie is a kid, her abdomen muscles (the muscles she'd use in full support) haven't been fully developed thus the sound is less powerful than that of an adult singer.
@addnamehere Yes, her tone will deepen, but her tone isn't as, good as Lys. You are overestimating Jackie. Jackie's tone will have a specific sound, but Lys' tone is one of the best I've ever heard. I would buy all of her albums, every song. Her voice is WAY better than Sarah Brightman's. Her rendition of Ave Maria was amazing and had me jaw dropped. I'm not saying that Jackie isn't amazing, but you are overestimating her. My cousin can sing like a soprano and he's (Yes a he) 12.

I've listened to Jackie sing before, and I must say, that kind repetoire should never be sung by anyone that young. I'm not trying to put her down, but I have a classical background in voice and in piano, and the training I recieved showed me the anatomy of the voice (child and adult).

Opera is not pop, you can't just sing it. Need skill, and lots of it to do it right.
Good voice, bad performance. Very bad pronouciation, lot to learn.

@buckfeel That's probably because she's older and her voice has developed more. Jackie is beyond her years, and I think Jackie will have a bigger voice than Lys when Jackie grows up, but Lys is OUTSTANDING too. :)

@ohanamaggie Unlike most Operatic singers, Lys has a specific tone that is so unique and amazing, as Jackie's you can tell, but her voice is standard if she was older. Lys has such a unique amazing voice, just magical. Jackie isn't a strong operatic singer, she has a soft and gentle voice, as Lys' voice is empowering and strong. I see Jackie becoming a great singer when older, but Lys' voice is stronger than Jackie's, even when she becomes older, I like Lys' tone alot better.

@SasuSakuGleeFan123 You're comparing an adult singer to a child singer. To properly sing classical music you need to support, and you can't use full support at a young age because it'll create a wobble when the singer ages. Therefore, yes, Lys' voice is stronger than Jackie's because Jackie is a kid, her abdomen muscles (the muscles she'd use in full support) haven't been fully developed thus the sound is less powerful than that of an adult singer.

@addnamehere Yes, her tone will deepen, but her tone isn't as, good as Lys. You are overestimating Jackie. Jackie's tone will have a specific sound, but Lys' tone is one of the best I've ever heard. I would buy all of her albums, every song. Her voice is WAY better than Sarah Brightman's. Her rendition of Ave Maria was amazing and had me jaw dropped. I'm not saying that Jackie isn't amazing, but you are overestimating her. My cousin can sing like a soprano and he's (Yes a he) 12.

@SasuSakuGleeFan123 Like I said. Jackie is a child. Children's tones are nowhere near an adults tone. I've listened to Jackie sing before, and I must say, that kind repetoire should never be sung by anyone that young. It's going to fuck up their voice in the long run, and the sort of repertoire should be left for an adult. I'm not trying to put her down, but I have a classical background in voice and in piano, and the training I recieved showed me the anatomy of the voice (child and adult).

You say that I think Jackie will have a bigger voice than Lys, as I am saying that is not true. That is what I think and I have strong reason to believe that. I am also a trained classical singer, that is how I make my living. I liked her voice in this performance but her pronunciation was flawed.

It's the way you wrote it I thought you were comparing an adults singing voice to a child's. But anyway, I trained classically for a few years and went to school for opera. But I decided to leave that career and go for something that would earn me money - an interpreter for the Deaf. Don't worry, I'll never give up on music.

@SasuSakuGleeFan123 What I'm trying to say is that difficult repertoire should be left for trained individuals that are older and have more experience than someone who's still developing because a) it sounds bad when a kid is singing big arias, b) that kind of repertoire calls for serious endurance and you need to engage full support which involves using mature muscles, and c) it will damage a young voice. Look at what happened to Charlotte Church.
