@956rangoflex It's just the way it's built. The diaphragms in the P3 are a single stainless steel disk which is (details aside) unlike the K or the M. Newer P horns have two stainless steel disks which controls the squeak (the" technical" term is a chiff).

That P3 will use about half of the air that the M3 uses. You can hear the pitch drop on the M3, while the P3 stills keeps going.

The M3H doesn't suck all you naysayers, it's the classic air horn. Ok well maybe the M5 is the classic air horn, but I digress the M just used up it's air quicker than the P so the when the M was on it's last breath the P still had a couple of good toots left in it. I do really like the P3 and the M has a little more melody to it, that lower tone you here.

Locoman, I thought that the K5LA was the loudest.  Here on the east coast so many people complained about it, that CSX installed choke fittings on various K5LA equipped locomotives.
