The Hillary/McCain tax holiday has been set up for those that are so fixated on American Idol, Dancing with the Stars, etc, that they don't know any better and think that it's a good thing.
There's video of Hillary Clinton "saber rattling" on the senate floor in 2002 before the invasion of Iraq. She's never admitted that her vote for the war was a m...m...mistake. Now she wants to be the agent who brings our troops home. In the meantime, she wants to "obliterate" Iran.

I love this "oil company windfall profits tax" idea. First of all, such a tax does not exist. Secondly, oil companies have some of the most powerful lobbiests in the country. They are not going to roll over and let themselves be taxed and will see that such legislation will be killed. Even if Clinton does become president, the possibility is slim to none such a thing will pass. She needs to be honest with people as she knows this is not a possibility.
Nancy Pelosi:"First of all, there's no reason to believe that any moratorium on the gas tax will be passed onto the consumer, first and foremost. This has not been the history,of a lowered gas tax being passed onto the consumer.Second of all,it would defeat everything we've been trying to do to lower the cost of oil. There are other remedies that are much better than that, and again, have a direct impact on the problem that we're trying to solve. The biggest answer to our challenges is to invest in...
Hillary : "I believe it would be important to get every member of Congress on record," she said, per NBC/NJ's MIke Memoli. "Do they stand with the hard-pressed Americans who are trying to pay their gas bills at the gas station or do they once again stand with the oil companies? That's a vote I'm going to try to get, because I want to know where people stand, and I want them to tell us - are they with us or against us when it comes to taking on the oil companies?"
People need to stop going on their emotions !!! Our emotions are not going to change the fact we can't afford anything anymore !! This race has been like watching a knock off of big brothers !!! Hill will tell as many stories as she can, just so she can win the big prize................Running our country!! If she wins, she won't have a clue! Good thing she didn't throw Bill out for cheating !!
I agree, Obama is the best person for the job. I had the opportunity to hear him and his wife in person. They are awesome and know the facts. I agree also that we as Americans, need to stand up and take control of our coutry. If the leaders do not want to do what we ask then vote them out. They represent the people, and if the people do not say anything, then they will do anything that they want. Obama has my support from my house to the white. How about You?
Just like an out of touch person who cares not about the middle class and poor people. Not to mention the working class. Raise our taxes, bleed us dry, and punish those who cannot claim high tax returns. And if we can make money and become successful then we should punish us for living the American dream. How dare we make money, if we do we are evil big businesses. you Obama supporters should wake up and open your eyes. He is not the great man you think he is.
This gas tax Holiday is a diversion made by rich Republicans. Our tax has doubled in the form a 30% deflation of our US Dollar while our homes are even worth less. This is a flat tax that hurts the middle class more than the upper class because we spend a higher percentage of our money on food, and gas. This deflation of our USD is created by our huge debt that Bush has created by going into this ignorant war in Iraq. Get out of war; USD gains value; gas drops a lot more than the gas tax.
I just want to ask Obama what he thinks of Planned Parenthood (supported by democrats, and hated by Republicans)wanting to kill African American babies.
One thing I personally like about Obama is that fact that he talks to you like an adult. Like someone who cares about you and lays the facts out to you - good or bad. He indeed gives you a sense of someone you can trust and rely on to change the twisted politics of washington.
lowering the gas prices 18 cents at best is not going to be better for society as a whole. We should be raising gas prices and forcing consumers to use less, switch to alternative renewable sources. Oil is not going to be around forever unless there is a need for a replacement people will not make a move. Its been over 30 years since the gas crisis of the 70's its about time we did something about our dependency on oil. A great republican wanted to save the environment by....
Sen. Barack Obama will make a fine president. If people would stop a minute and think about how much he has energized Americans and forget Rev. Wright. Is that all they can find on him, his former mean-spirited pastor. Believe me they're holding the good stuff they have on Hillary for later; stuff that'll make Rev. Wright look like a saint. Don't be fooled people VOTE OBAMA '08
I hate videos like these, all Obama did was say that Mccain's and Clinton's plan won't work, which is probably true, yet he never says what his plan to solve the gas price problem is.
I think senator Barack Obama would make a wonderful President . He seems to be an honest and conserned person. As far as the video well any dummy should know he is certainly right about the gas fraud
I love the signs on the podium. "CHANGE" "Reclaiming the American Dream." Excellent choices. Really helps to convey what the campaign is all about. Forgive me for saying so, but when I see Hillary's "Solutions" logo - it just reminds me of chemicals.
i actualy think the same. he speak about the ppl of hi country, hi think about the best way for them to have a stable life without fear and torment. i like this guy, he seem to speak truly from the botom of his heart and that what everycountry need.
driving on our roads is tearing up my property, the public road. you want to drive on it, you pay for the wear and tear on it.or do you like the act of hit and run?
If you are referring to taxation in general as theft, then you are a lunatic. Taxation pays for all of the public goods that Americans enjoy every day.
Repealing the gas tax entirely would require a new source of funding for high ways repairs. We live in a capitalistic society. Who will buy better roads? It should be the people using the roads. The more gas someone is buying, they more they are driving and consequently using and wearing down the roads. A tax on gas matches road use to costs to repair the road. Supply and demand would adjust the price accordingly. Obama was correct and clear in his response.
The gas tax is what pays 4 highway construction... I live in chicago and we need that money... to me it is stupid to take that money away... instead of 18 cents per gallon, u pay a lot more if u run into a pot hole
when it's put that way, maybe the gas tax is not such a great idea; although, as a student, I wouldn't protest it one bit--25-30 dollars is a lot of money: worth about four to five good meals...
$25-30 in a month may be alot, but this is over 3 months, which is maybe 1-2 meals a month.
and as they are saying, the prices will probably rise to erase any savings anyway, so unless you disagree with the economists, you may want to protest it.
I am a college student too and I didn't like this idea as soon as it was put out. We need to save more than $25-30 at the pump. They are only talking about a temporary relief. Who is to say that by the time summer ends, when school starts BACK, and you are in college struggling to work & go to school if you don't get enough financial aid, the gas will probably be higher than $4 a gallon.
You have to look at the big picture, not just the small one.
Believe me, you wouldn't save that much money. The gasoline retailers would just bump the price back up to where it is now. That's the price the marketplace has already figured out you will pay.
On MacNeil/Lehrer News Hour they talked to Economic experts that stated that the price would not drop at all at the pump if you removed the tax. The reason is simple supply and demand. Refineries are at capacity now. Price drops, demand goes up, Price goes back up in response. No savings at all and 9 billion dollars lost to infrastructure investment. It would take over 6 months to see any real effect, holiday over, billions more not invested in needed infrastructure, thousands of jobs gone.
yea, like he easily beat Bush? I didn't vote Bush, I don't like Bush. But the Democrats have failed with Gore & Kerry. Obama is their only hope. Clinton will not lose like Gore or Kerry - she'll be spanked like Mondale or Dukakis.
eh it wouldn't be easily. The younger voters will not be crazy over gore...but will remain with Obama, especially since most have donated to his campaign. They won't leave their investment. Hillary on the other hand will have her support cut significantly, and Gore will be the new 2nd place candidate, but not first. Obama has too much of a grassroots style campaign for it to be compromised.
Lol ok drummerboy you need to stop drummin for just a couple of seconds because its obviously distorting your logical thinking, and your hearing for that matter.
well i don't hope that he is a violent president like Bush, Bush actually ruined american reputation. if wars keep coming the earth will be destroyed or it will turn into a mass chaos..
Obama really stands for change. HRC has more baggage than an airport which Obama could have been dishing since the beginning and would have sunk her a long time ago, but he is a man of honor and integrity and believes in change.
His is a great president weeding through the political nonsense and dealing with the issues that us Americans so desperately need solved. What a fresh breath of air!
All the financial experts are saying the gas tax holiday is almost useless.
These people are running for the highest position in the land.. Why don't they get advice/information/facts from the experts before they promote solutions that do not solve anything.
Good answer, but in other countries they are using ethanol or other kind of gas that is cheaper, and is not pollutant. These countries are considered 3rd world. So why can't we do this here in USA????????????????
I have never heard a politician seem to speak so incisively, so honestly. Politicians are monsters. This is why Obama appeals to young voters. We don't believe political b.s. (see: Hillary Clinton giving an interview on her cellphone while staging her publicity stunt for the gas tax holiday driving in a pickup) anymore. No one believes it anymore.
Whatever, we are paying less for gas then MOST countries in the world. How about we take ALL tax off of gas, oh wait, ever tax on gas that we have is because of Democrats.
how about we tax gas more and use the money to fund the implementation of alternate fuel technologies for both automobiles and homes? I would pay an extra dollar a gallon or more if it was going to to the right thing. Besides, environmental costs should be built into the price of gasoline. Anyone but the most myopically greedy miser can see that.
the oil companies dont want no electric car, they want to sell oil!!! im from quebec (canada) , we have big hydro dams and have lots of electricity. the company is nationalised so we, the tax payers, pay for it. we once had a team of researchers that developped a highly effective electric car model, but it was bought by the big oil companies. you had electric cars in california for a while but they disappeared through pressure from those same companies. there will be no change, change doesnt pay
the other day, my browser would go to any address BUT youtube. anyone know any reasons that would happen other than some admin block?
and as far as free speech and youtube... check out user jcjcd - a pro Hillary propagandizer. strategically heavily-edited videos with all comments and ratings turned off. comments turned off on the account itself as well.
Tip: Obama is clearly a man of extraordinary principle and character. That is something the campaign should emphasise, because the media rarely picks up on it. If the Wright controversy is spun as poor judgement it will seriously hurt Obama. If it is seen as a personal story of loyalty and betrayal, then he will come out on tops because people can relate to that.
Tell them the truth...what an idea. Most politicians tell people what they think they want to hear, even if it's total BS and won't help them one bit. Nice to hear someone actually speak out against these dumb ideas
After hearing this, it dawned on me that McCain, ADMITTED he is not very good with the economy. My question would be, just where did this 'idea' come from since McCain admits he doesnt know economy? It had to have come from some 'economists' that probably did so with ideas from the gas companies. American has had enough of the special interest running the country. Its time for a swift and independant thinker that thinks ideas through and through. As an economic strategy, there IS only ONE choice
I'm not sure the American people can handle the truth, but I sincerely hope we don't miss out this time, and end up with more war, more debt, higher cost of living, lower paying jobs, and shit out of luck.
Obama refuses to play along with what he has called a gas-tax "scheme" because he knows that "If you lower the price of gas without increasing the supply, it will only raise demand and thus boost prices. Hillary and Mc'Cain's plan would cost $9 billion, money that is desperately needed to shore up the country's transportation infrastructure.
Now Hillary is running commercials in Indiana attacking Obama for his policy on gasoline prices. Hope the people of Indiana can see through this ploy.
As much as I respect Obama as a hman being, I do not think he will be a good president. A major reason why people are supporting him is because his speaches are compelling....but..as compelling as they are I as an American realize words do not win me over..we all know we can change America, Will he do it as president, I don't think so. Again..this is my opinion, and I speak for myself. I just don't understand supporters of this man.
"I don't understand why some people can't see the intelligence, wisdom and honesty this man has. Instead, the MSM is so wound up about some irrelevant pastor, and as a result some voters are too. What a SHAME! Let's focus on the REAL issues!"
Obama is so right! We would spend millions & millions out of the infrastructure budget. So for $30 dollars in our tank, we lose jobs and our infrastructure budget is depleted!!! Wake Up America!! We have bridges falling down. We have pot holes that need to be fixed. Obama's the only one telling the people the truth. The gas tax has been proposed as a lie to the American people by McCain & Clinton. Oh boy $30 bucks and we can't fix our roads & Bridges. Vote Obama's the truth teller!!!

Man, Obama is actually the coolest person ever. Not just in the sense that he's awesome, but he shows so much conviction for what he does, whereas the others look like they're in this race for their own personal gain. Moreover, there's a normalcy to him that makes him more approachable, believable and warm.
Auragirl86, they are so full of hate and that's why they don't see his intelligence, wisdome and honesty. They are blinded by it. They let the right-wing liars pursuade them. What a horrible disservice to our country, and its citizens.
I don't understand why some people can't see the intelligence, wisdom and honesty this man has. Instead, the MSM is so wound up about some irrelevant pastor, and as a result some voters are too. What a SHAME! Let's focus on the REAL issues!
I hate to say it but some folks are just racists, and some are just stupid.
Obama has a hard fight still ahead as the corps and their lobbists try to keep him out of the whitehouse. They'll continue to use white-fear and other shady tactics.
One more example of how Obama will tell the truth, while others spin and spin to get elected. We have challenges before us. I want a President who will LEAD and not spin easy answers.
John "Three Checks" McCain claims to be fit enough to be president, but gets a disability check from the NAVY.
He also gets a government check from the SENATE, although he has the worst attendance record in the senate.
Third, he gets a SOCIAL SECURITY Check!!!
He doesn't return any of these checks to the Treasury (U.S. taxpayers). So, he claims to be for smaller government, but I guess that only applies to you and me.
He's right on the money, but it's to little to late. Where was this critical thinking the last 6-12 months?
All he has been talking about is "hope and change" or how many delegates he has... never any substance. Did he offer a real solution after this criticism?
I don't know what to think of this guy. I think he is a little screwy but Ron Paul is the only one that is not totally full of shit.
it's hillaryous how quick the billary campaign jumps on the gas tax holiday proposal bandwagon with mccain without a second thought, a true reflection of how her campaign is run... mindlessly making proposals and talking a lot of BS just to get your vote, this is the kind of politics Obama condemns,it's time for change OBAMA '08! oh yeah, and Bill is a racist!!
Thats right OBAMA! Roll up your sleeves and show the critics your tough, Obama should should have a more stronger image of a fighter. I know he his and he should show america he has what it takes to take on the white HOUSE! OBAMA 08! punch Hillary and K.O John Mccain's lights out!(not literraly)
theres someone here are jealous they don't want change in America they want John McCain to be president to go in Irak in 100 years oh my God how about the economy in 100 years is he crazy vote for Obama and you will have a solution for the economy of America
Yes that is an actual fact - Oil Companies do offensive accounting to make back that tax cut loss by conducting a derivative of tax increment accounting over time which unfortunatley is offset back to the consumer by pushing up the fuel price to make up the tax cut loss they have endured.
Why should we trust the oil companies in 8 years gas went from .99 to what we have now compliments of Bush. I could care less about saving .18 just for the summer. Someone need to stop those companies from gauging us we need a long term fix not something that Hillary/McCain can lie about after the summer saying well we thought by us doing this it would help but as you see the..you know the story use your imagination. Hillary/McCain has not had to chose between food/gas so they could care less.

Distancing himself from Rev. Wright at this point I think we all can agree is too little too late! I guess Obama's chickens have come home to roost! His denouncing the Rev. is nothing less than political positioning & shows he'd throw his grandmother under the proverbial bus if he thought it would help with votes. His chances of winning anything other than the Dem. nomination are almost non-existent. I am also guessing the Obamas now regret making a 27K contribution to Rev. Wright's hate-church!

What everyone keeps missing is that a tax holiday would give money to refiners, not to consumers.
The price would simply restabilize to nearly the current level, because of supply and demand. We'd all pay the same at the pump after a few weeks.

MihelicJ1977 3 years ago
This gas tax Holiday is a diversion made by rich Republicans. Our tax has doubled in the form a 30% deflation of our US Dollar while our homes are even worth less. This is a flat tax that hurts the middle class more than the upper class because we spend a higher percentage of our money on food, and gas. This deflation of our USD is created by our huge debt that Bush has created by going into this ignorant war in Iraq. Get out of war; USD gains value; gas drops a lot more than the gas tax.

lowering the gas prices 18 cents at best is not going to be better for society as a whole. We should be raising gas prices and forcing consumers to use less, switch to alternative renewable sources. Oil is not going to be around forever unless there is a need for a replacement people will not make a move. Its been over 30 years since the gas crisis of the 70's its about time we did something about our dependency on oil. A great republican wanted to save the environment by....

driving on our roads is tearing up my property, the public road. you want to drive on it, you pay for the wear and tear on it.or do you like the act of hit and run?
waltermh111 3 years ago
If you are referring to taxation in general as theft, then you are a lunatic. Taxation pays for all of the public goods that Americans enjoy every day.
othafaaaa 3 years ago
But there's no better way to pay for highways. People who drive on them, should pay for them.
atheistavenger417 3 years ago
Repealing the gas tax entirely would require a new source of funding for high ways repairs. We live in a capitalistic society. Who will buy better roads? It should be the people using the roads. The more gas someone is buying, they more they are driving and consequently using and wearing down the roads. A tax on gas matches road use to costs to repair the road. Supply and demand would adjust the price accordingly. Obama was correct and clear in his response.
No third term for Bush.
lurtsman 3 years ago
The gas tax is what pays 4 highway construction... I live in chicago and we need that money... to me it is stupid to take that money away... instead of 18 cents per gallon, u pay a lot more if u run into a pot hole
msmcgee1 3 years ago 2
when it's put that way, maybe the gas tax is not such a great idea; although, as a student, I wouldn't protest it one bit--25-30 dollars is a lot of money: worth about four to five good meals...
BlueNile123 3 years ago
Yes, but am I safe in assuming that as a student you probably won't be buying enough gas this summer to safe even 25-30 dollars?
blykken 3 years ago
25-30 dollars of the course of 3 months is nothing...especially if demand goes UP and gas prices go higher...
...then you wouldn't be saving anything, but you would be eliminating jobs!
LaylaM0MMY 3 years ago
But the rules of supply and demand when people buy more supply goes down as price go UP! You may not even see the savings....
DereckLamar 3 years ago
$25-30 in a month may be alot, but this is over 3 months, which is maybe 1-2 meals a month.
and as they are saying, the prices will probably rise to erase any savings anyway, so unless you disagree with the economists, you may want to protest it.
waltermh111 3 years ago
I am a college student too and I didn't like this idea as soon as it was put out. We need to save more than $25-30 at the pump. They are only talking about a temporary relief. Who is to say that by the time summer ends, when school starts BACK, and you are in college struggling to work & go to school if you don't get enough financial aid, the gas will probably be higher than $4 a gallon.
You have to look at the big picture, not just the small one.
DameDiabolique 3 years ago 2
Believe me, you wouldn't save that much money. The gasoline retailers would just bump the price back up to where it is now. That's the price the marketplace has already figured out you will pay.

On MacNeil/Lehrer News Hour they talked to Economic experts that stated that the price would not drop at all at the pump if you removed the tax. The reason is simple supply and demand. Refineries are at capacity now. Price drops, demand goes up, Price goes back up in response. No savings at all and 9 billion dollars lost to infrastructure investment. It would take over 6 months to see any real effect, holiday over, billions more not invested in needed infrastructure, thousands of jobs gone.

how about we tax gas more and use the money to fund the implementation of alternate fuel technologies for both automobiles and homes? I would pay an extra dollar a gallon or more if it was going to to the right thing. Besides, environmental costs should be built into the price of gasoline. Anyone but the most myopically greedy miser can see that.

It had to have come from some 'economists' that probably did so with ideas from the gas companies. American has had enough of the special interest running the country.
