  • @ maligui how would u know if u dont live here. all u did was drive around get the fuck outa ur car and walk around. just because it doesnt have fuckin 30 feet projects doesnt mean its not a hood. shit. MOST of elkhart by the DT area looks like a dump ass ghetto and its spreading threw out. go to the elkhart greens APT. get fucked and ull never be bck. lol

  • @ forkface r u mad cause the people here ran u out cuz u were touching little kids.

  • @ isosonikrome. What kind of bars do u go to DT where the coutry and nascar never seen that or heard of that around..

  • ive lived in this area my whole life never seen it look as nice as it does on this vidoe. but im only 19 could have been alot nicer bck then. looks like a mini detroit or something with all the empty lots and drug infested houses. ELKHART WILL EAT U UP AND SPIT U OUT. All these bar and shit ur seeing on main street aint shit but local hangouts for hookers. small town indiana who would have knew. lol

  • ELKHART SUCKZ!!!! Period! No way around it. The city itself iz ugly, run down, and depressing. If it wasnt for my family living there I would NEVER go back. So, Elkhart, I say to you from the bottom of my heart...FUCK YOU!!!!

  • Lived in Elkhart for quite awhile. Have met lots of good people and have made some good friends. For Geocaching (which I do lots of and film here often for my YouTube channel) the town is great and there are some great caches as well as some hides that will drive you crazy. The renovation of the theater downtown is cool and I like the Ice/Water park. Also the food scene is better than average and much better than South Bend (IMHO) with several great choices ranging through many types of fare.

  • DONT COME HERE!!! i've lived here for 16 years... boring. terrible.

  • lol

  • I thought this is a town where there's significant unemployment and quite a fair bit of homelessness at present. At least this video doesn't show the dark side of this town, which is the collapse of the RV business.

  • They forgot to mention Elharts KKK history! I wonder why?

  • Nice of them to talk about the downtown Y, oh wait :-(

  • yo' i dnt think oue city isz that nice looking haha and i been here ma hole life and itsz not that funn neaither

  • Well, I think we know why she only talked about downtown..... yeah, shes forgetting that place where people get shot often!!!! man! i wish she'd stop calling elkhart cool!

  • Elkhart is like almost any small rural American town: the cost of living is relatively low, the crime rate is tolerable, property is mostly affordable, and if you’re white, christian, provincial and “straight” you’ll most likely fit in well enough. There’s a reasonably well developed public park system, and occasional cultural highlights like the annual jazz festival and civic symphony. But go north of DT past the bridge or south over the RR tracks and viable options disappear quickly.

  • Honestly -- if you drive thru DT you’ll see probably a third of all properties are empty and shabby looking. And as others have pointed out, some of the worst parts of the city are only a short distance off the DT area.

Like anywhere in the world, Elkhart is fine if you have enough money to insulate yourself from all the crappy aspects of the town. But you can’t be here and expect the community to readily supply all sorts of truly exciting and satisfying experiences.

  • There are maybe a few upper floor apartments DT that look like the modern & stylish spaces in the video: most are either empty, or just low rent dumps. “Big city style” is an equally dubious claim; at most, one might claim that DT Elkhart has a smattering of postmodern architecture. Most of the rest is just typical smalltown America old randomness and some neoclassic relics.

  • The notion of young urban hipsters in a gentrified DT Elkhart parking their cars for a week because their jobs and all desired arts and entertainment options are right there is ridiculous. Like nearly everything in “Michiana”, you absolutely need a car to survive, let alone thrive here. The Interurban Trolley simply will not suffice for the overwhelming majority of residents.

  • Yes -- downtown rental and lease spaces can be relatively affordable, but like the cost of living in most all of Elkhart, that’s due in large part to the average low incomes of most residents, and the ongoing state of economic recession. The markets dictate the prices. And there’s plenty of available rental property, because of the high turnover rates of failed small businesses.

  • No, there really isn’t a “fantastic selection of places to eat” in DT Elkhart; if the micro brews referred to in the video were at Mad Anthony’s, that’s out of business now. To try presenting anyplace downtown as hip, “urban” entertainment is silly: Elkhart is a struggling, Midwest, “blue collar” town, and nearly all its bars and few “clubs” reflect this. If you’re looking for NASCAR, or country-western, or classic rock themed bar atmospheres you probably won’t be too disappointed.

  • Well, it’s anything but “obvious” that there’s “a lot” to see and do in DT Elkhart.

  • The notion of a “burgeoning arts and entertainment district” is optimistic at best: just because the city slaps several large “A&E District” signs on various traffic light poles downtown does not make it a reality. The Midwest Museum of American art is indeed worth visiting annually, but it’s been there for many decades. I haven’t been to the Lerner theater (formally the Elco), but it has indeed recently reopened, after a major renovation and expansion project.

  • Several of the businesses/industries mentioned in the first minute-and-a-half of the video are no longer alive in Elkhart; John’s Bagels is out of business; I believe the band instrument manufacturing industry in Elkhart has contracted and merged considerably in the past decade; the same for the RV/“manufactured housing” sector; and Miles Labs/Bayer is gone.

  • Looks like I’ll have to break my comments up into numerous posts, due to YouTube’s character limits.

Like any marketing and advertising, the video focuses only on the few positive aspects of the product (Elkhart), while ignoring or glossing over any negatives.

  • @shannon123933... I live 25 years in that craptown. California was the best thing for my life. Much more $ in heathcare that enables me to live comfortably in Santa Monica with plenty of "things". Would have never happened in Elkhart @EGH. They cut their employees necks. If a person thinks Elkhart is lifeless, a bore, or to many drugs(which it is very drugridden)--then move somewhere nice. That works, esp. In Ca. I work with 4 people from mishiana...

  • Good old Elkhart :) Its not as bad as people think it is...but it sure isnt as good as this video makes it look :) Hahaha...I still love it though, i lived here for 12 years :)

  • Harry Balls (former Mayor of Ft.Wayne) Irish Stout?!

So great that wasn't edited out.

  • Its funny.

    Elkhart looks nothing like that.

Its all rundown now. Tearing down houses left and right. Empty shops and stores and more construction then is needed. Elkhart used to be beautiful. But I fear that it wont be the same ever again...

  • I love elkhart!! C.O.E. for life!!

  • i from elkhart, and i dont like it when people who arent even from the state on in, start talkin about my town, Elkhart is an ok place to live, just like any other town in america.

  • What a joke, and I"m sure my taxes helped pay for this in some manner

Elkhart sucks...Hillbillys with low standards, and middle class who think they're rich

And FYI: Downtown is a dump, they shot all the right angles with an HD camera but downtown is a dump

Go there if you want to get raped or robbed

  • @ForkFace2112 look you dont like it leave & if your not living there then ( SHUT UP ) but if you are living there & your not doing nothing about these problems then your part of the problem. i live here & every day & night im walking the streets to report crime when i see it armed with nothing more then a cell phone & im 56 & walk with a cane.whats your excuse.

  • @shannon123933 first of all it's "you're" not your... By the way, you're an idiot!! Why don't you go respond to some more comments that are over a month old. Congratulations you walk the streets and report crime... Wow, that 's gonna bring jobs!!! Go fuck yourself

  • @ForkFace2112 just like somebody with no education & no raising you have to respond with profanity because your not intelligent enough to respond with a resonable statment & i dont care if the comment is 1 day 1month or 1 year old an attack on my home town is an attack on me.& im still waiting on an answer what are you doing to inprove this town.my guess would be SETTING ON YOUR BUTT DOING NOTHING WAITING FOR SOMEBODY ELSE ( LIKE ME ) TO DO IT

  • its amazing the can make a shit hole look good ive lived here all my life

  • thank you I grew up in elkhart, and i miss it ...

  • What a dazzling veneer over a horrible rotted carcass of a city. Sure this will fool people that are not from the area but anyone from Elkhart will know better. When the President decides to speak from your city because of how shitty it is...probably a good sign that stuff like this is a lie.

  • More importantly though, this video shows our determination and resilience to transform the whole city back into the great city that our mothers and fathers have called home.

  • You know, I grew up in this city and I have seen it slowly decline because of the gang and drug problem spreading from Chicago to here. I moved out of Elkhart to go to school, and I visit every so many months. I have seen it at it's worst, and I have seen it nearly at it's best; mainly because I wasn't alive then. I know Elkhart isn't the ideal place to stay, but there are some great things that happen in Elkhart. This video only shows a few of those things

  • i,ve lived here my entire life and what they have shown you in this video is a mask of the truth. Yes!!! there is a nice downtown scene but not really for the 80% of the people that make up elkhart which are poor. also the schools are horrible, i think they actually where in the top 10 worst schools in indian funny huh lol... well there is also a major problem with drugs exspecially meth here..... well hope u dont actually believe this video if you do i,d have to say the proof is to the right...

  • Ugh. I hate it here in Elkhart. So boring... There's nothing to do without money. Even then really all there is to do is to go buy some groceries.

  • we need a indoor motocross track for the kids in the winter. If only eklhart knew just how many racers we have in this county, action sports i would say top the traditional ones. Elkhart needs to get with the times. They better never mention the baseball field again, but i have it on good authority that isnt going to happen.

  • Yes there is a lot of history here and a lot of industrious, hard working people. Sadly (in my opinion as a business owner) the city is NOT very business friendly. I often feel like I'm a member of a home owners association with all of their rules and fees and ... well you get the idea.

"vintage charm" ... other wise known as OLD.

It's better than it was, but has a long way to go. And business friendly is one of the main things the city "elders" could do something about.

  • Great video! I think it is high time we lift up our community and look at it as a great place to call home. We need to attract buisnesses and people to our area.

This will help do that! It's not a perfect place... as there is no such place. Just a great place that we can all make even better. History happens here!

  • Awesome, I think I saw one black person in the whole video. Beautiful PR.

  • Awesome Video :) Missing a GREAT downtown Restaurant ...McCarthy's on the Riverwalk is right next to Nibco skate/water park...Please check it out when you visit Elkhart :)

  • Nice, video--I only wish they had touched on shopping! Stephenson's of Elkhart is a great women's apparel store/bridal salon that has been a big part of downtown for 79 years! 211 South Main Street

  • Elkhart isn't that bad. I can't believe the comments about the hood? Hood? Really? This is Elkhart. POP. 45,000. We don't have a "hood". South Bend doesn't have one either. Go to Chicago's SW side.

That being said. The video is right on entrepreneurial spirit. Elkhart has re-invented itself many times. It will re-invent itself again. We don't need Obama's help either.

  • @Maligui I was shocked when I read your comment about Elkhart and South B not having a" Hood". You must be oblivious to what is really going on in our area. First, I worked for Elkhart County government for 3 years. Chicago's Hood has quickly spread to South B and now into Elkhart over the past 5 yrs. Elkhart has the highest rank in Meth labs for all Indiana counties at the current time,bc the drug deals are taking place between Elkhart, SouthB and Chicago.

  • @Maligui You may want to do some research. I know too many cases of people being robbed in their homes at gun point and the Elkhart school district is awful for our children. Most people would be smart to say that they wouldn't walk down Franklin or Marion Street in the middle of the night without being robbed or bothered in some negative way.

  • @memyselfandI4885 Chicago's west side is exactly where the root of the drug and murders problem stems from. Which like I said, has spread into St. Joseph and Elkhart County in the last 5 yrs. The murders in South B increase yearly and the drugs in Elkhart increase yearly. 45,000 people doesn't mean anything. When people from Chicago (the real hood) are constantly moving into our area bringing in the gangs and drugs, it is bound to create a problem even with 45,000 people.

  • There are bad parts of town. But no "hood". There is a huge drug problem. This I know. Nothing is done about it. Do you classify a run down neighborhood as a ghetto? Give me break. I drove down there, and it not that bad. Like I said. Goto southwest Chicago, drive though that part, then tell me if Elkhart comes close. I can assure you, It doesn't.

  • i miss Elkhart was born there live there until 94 my families there

  • @psycomurdera

How are people going to even understand what that "truth" is if you can't form a coherent sentence?

  • Lots of drama queens posting in this video. Elkhart isn't nearly as bad as these comments are making it out to be. Elkhart actually is just kind of boring. Our "ghetto" isn't even very ghetto... I don't think these people have ever seen a real ghetto before. I delivered pizza in Elkhart for 6 years and never had any problems with getting robbed or anything and I delivered at night in the poorest of neighborhoods.

At any rate, this is a nice quality video.

  • @PhenomZ i know!

  • downtown is bad but the concord school districts isnt

  • @jesusfreakfollower1 downtown is, but not where i live.

  • I have lived in Elkhart Country my whole life..and now currently live in the City of Elkhart. This video cracked me up. What a way to fasley Display Elkhart ,IN. I can't wait to get out of this city. behind all these restaurants you will find Drug deals, Rapes, violance, prostetution Etc..I am scared to walk 30 feet from these places. It is not a safe or good place to live. THe schools are very bad, the crime is high and this city is the highest mark for Meth in Indiana in 2010. Think Twice!

  • dont listen to the lies!! walk 500 feet in any direction away from where this is being filmed and youll get jumped.

  • Aw the memories around the park, I had some nice bike rides back. I can say I miss Elkhart, it is nothing compared to where I'm living now, but yet I don't remember seeing it how the video explains it.

  • one street over from all this is another world

  • LOL I have lived around here all my life. Great P.R. Very pro. Shows what you can do with video to show people what you want them to see. I could do the same thing on all the downers in town.

  • i love el-town

  • to bad it aint really like that here

  • This is a rather nice video about the nice things downtown Elkhart has to offer.

  • AHAHAHAHA. The narrative is way over the top, and everyone who has lived in Elkhart would most likely laugh at this hype-video.

  • i hope the elco turns out good and that some big performers come out to good old elkhart

  • @sweetcaspr2u i knoww, they finnished it finally!!

  • I grew up in Elkhart, I left in "86" I miss fishing with my mother at Island park!! Those memories are special.
