OMG, are you serious? I paused after like 3 seconds! That music...eeeegh! And why the hell would you put goldfish in a little bowl like that? Not smart.
Sorry to tell you, NOT true at all! They are one of the few fishes that you can have in a bowl without an air filter. They actually go to the top of the water and open up thier mouths and get air. Haven't you ever went to a fair and threw ping pong balls into the little bowls of goldfish to win one? I had a white goldfish named "Joe" that lived for almost three years-no filter
@dollydear98 Almost 3 years is nothing for a gold fish. Most gold fishes can live well past 6 years, even up to a decade. Regardless of how long your goldfish lived in a non cycled tank(bowl) is irrelevant. It was still a bad life with the fish eventually dieing to nitrite and ammonia poisoning. And gold fishes can't breathe air, they aren't a labyrinth fish. Yours appeared to be breathing air but it was actually at the surface gasping due to the ammonia and nitrite build up.
@AquariaDesign I agree. I think it's out of ignorance and not enough research that humans keep fish in poor conditions. I think it's awful that people keep fish in bowls at all, not even talking about keeping them without the equipment!Dollydear98;do a bit of research and you'll find that a very common symptom of illness amongst fish: gasping air at the top of the tank/bowl.And if you were born in 98, you might not even be old enough to keep fish on your own; parents should help children!
No, 98 is when I established the email address. I do not know these things about fish, again, the goldfish was given to me....I did the best I could. You don't know what you don't know and appreciate everyone's helpful comments. Thank you~
I agree with you. My fish was doing fine (it was actually given to me by someone who moved away, I did NOT buy him) My mom (many years ago) just had to clean his bowl (tank) for me, and he never recvoered, that's why he died. He was a good fish, enjoyed having him, I did think 3 years was along time for a fish in a bowl. Thanks for your comment~
@AquariaDesign I am sorry to say that even part of this is wrong, even though your comment about ammonia and nitrite build up was totally correct, goldfish SHOULD have an average lifespan of 20 YEARS+ But the poor conditions that almost all goldfish live in means that they die well before that from ammonia and nitrite posioning coupled with stunting and organ failure.... Shame that most people don't know that really.
Ths isnt even a real picture!
It's a show-case picture from stores!
