i think u r one of the lucky few with the samsung ssd on the acer most with the intel ssd wont boot like that. why are there so many people getting nerd rage because of your video? its just a comparison video start up time is mostly important on a netbook because its portable. my netbook actually starts faster than my i7 rig but that does not mean im going to do hd encodes on it.
The point was not directly a comparison. If you ignore that there is a faster one in the video, it regains some merit, and shows how fast/slow it starts up.
I have a HP Pavilion Slimline, that uses hardly any power, and i bet running mine non-stop for a year is cheaper than running yours for about a month :P
@CmdrKeen I know its so annoying, these kids act like they are paying 1500 dollars for a pc to run crysis amazingly, get a life people its called noone really cares that you are gonna run crysis wonderfully, all though a new computer wouldnt hurt me i wouldnt brag on crysis videos
But if you want you can still make a PC boot faster.. My Arch installation boots in 15 seconds, with an "oldschool" 7200 RPM HDD.. And with a SSD on a more powerful machine you should be able to reach a 20 sec boot with WIN7, and possibly even less with some other OS's, and some tweaking.. WIN7 isn't much worse than OSX as it has a boot time around 35 seconds, AFAIK
you suck, c'mon, how fast does OSX boot?? I don't think your very credible as being a Apple Whore so you best leave your comments some place else buddy!..
You don't get the point do you? Linux/Unix distros boot differently, when Windows boots up from shutdown or restart, it boots all the registry, drivers, apps etc from scratch.. While OSX, when it's turned on, it boots the drivers first, then brings up the desktop THEN loads the apps and system files, its completly different, It's not much difference in speed, my cousin has a MacBook 2008 with 2GB RAM and it boots after restart in 35 odd seconds, my desktop with 7200rpm boots Win7 in about 32
Hey dante01010 - Macbooks are FAR slower at booting than most PC's. But comparing any two random computers and concluding OS X is faster is what a typical mactard does. It's what annoys me about them. 1st of I've seen some macbooks boot in 20sec with SSD, while some PC's boot in 10 secs with HD's. But bottom line is the fastest PC, with the right set up will destroy any macbook out there. So stop bragging about which OS is faster as if you understood it.
It's also about what is being loaded. But I was just laughing about a week ago at some mac user showing off his SSD and it took 30secs with SSD verses his 45 with HD. That said, I have a 4Ghz i7, 1TB and full ram system that just blows pretty much any mac out of the water. It also only cost $650. So quit being a fan boy and wake up. There are many choices in PC world here. - But again, it's up to what was being loaded. So this video is a relative test anyway.
I know wonder how the PC that booted in 10 seconds would have done with an SSD. Probably like 7. And if you don't believe me search, "xp pro 10 second boot". And that's a new i7 like in my machine.
my macbook boots Snow Leopard in 22 seconds and it's a 2007 model with a 5400 rpm HDD, there is something wrong with that macbook that you are talking about, but i was saying that OS X is faster than Windows not Mac hardware better than PC
My old acer laptop (not this one) was the biggest piece of shit ever, I couldn't have it running for more than 5 minutes before it turned off. They have really stepped up their game since 2008 it seems.
You will also need to unplug the DVD on the Phenom or plug a USB DVD into the Acer. You probably hav the bios set on the Phenom to check the optical drive for boot media. This eats time. The Acer doesn't have an optical drive. Not really logical to compare a fully decked-out machine to one that's bare-bones.
If I turned everything off it wouldn't be a realistic test. It wasn't intended as a "scientific" test by any means and I'm sorry if it was interpreted that way. In real world usage it would take this long to start up on both, from power button to desktop.
It's a flawed test. The Phenom doesn't start loading when the Acer starts loading. The BIOS is still doing initial checks while the Acer is loading. Turn on fastboot and turn off all of the floppy checks, memory checks, etc. on the Phenom so you're not comparing apples to oranges.
Besides, who cares? These two machines have different purposes. And who spends the majority of their time loading Windows anyway, even if it was a 3 second difference?
Overall, I love my Aspire One. It works for what I need it to and is very durable. I keep it in my backpack at school wedged between textbooks and it somehow survives :O
The enter key is comparable to what you'd see on normal laptops, but everything is a little smaller. Once you get used to the smaller keys it's a breeze to type on.
Get the 10.1 inch AOD150 if you're looking into it, with the 6-cell battery and 160 gb hard drive. That's what I got, and I love it. Running Windows 7 build 7106 on it. I get 25-30 seconds bootup. I also upgraded mine to 2gb of ram, it was a really easy RAM upgrade and the RAM was only 20$ online!
I'm EXTREMELY happy with the Acer Aspire One D150. 10/10
Nice. Was your Win7 version vlited or was it the full thing? Did you turn off anything else (such as page filing, D2D)? How was win7 performance overall on the AAO, any hair tearing annoyances?
SSD slower than HDD O_O
This is my first time seeing an SSD outperformed by a HDD..
wwyk1993 9 months ago
@wwyk1993 Thats because the SSD you have seen is a very bad one. Only 8GBs. Probably has as much power as a 5400RPM drive.

Let me see this your comparing a SSD to a CPU yea great lets compare apples to oranges.
If you said maybe SSD to a Raptor drive then yea it would give us a proper comparison.
