i remember that show when i was a lil girl.my mom used 2 watch thta, its better and funnier than louis ck and ricky geravis shows.i wanna go back 2 the 80s and 90s,lol!
Let's be honest I've never seen this show but in one and a half minutes the show has used the joke of talking directly to the audience three times. I can't see this being a good watch.
@malcolmyui The show ran for four years, so there must have been something in it. The whole premise is that he interacted with the audience the whole show. Some of the funniest stuff I'd ever seen was on this show. Seinfeld and David lifted from this IMO.
I still remember the episode where a guy has a heart attack in the audience and i thought it was real cuz i was like 5 years old. That episode was so bizarre. haha
@sraven25 I agree! I got referred to this theme song by TVTropes.com. That's one of the reasons I like that website so much: I keep coming across gems like this! XD
does anyone know the other sitfcoms that came on before or after this show? i have faint memories of a sitcom that was actually funny but can't remember the name, and the cast was kinda unknown.
i never got Showtime in canada, i can't remember the network it was on....hmm, i thot it was fox...well i know FOX had some good shows like GET A LIFE....maybe there was a sitcom before or after that???
Shandling's show was on Showtime during 1986-1990 but it was also broadcast on the FOX channels because that is where I saw the show originally. It was on Sunday's around 10 or 10:30pm here. The other shows on that night as far as I can remember were MARRIED...WITH CHILDREN; DUET; TRACEY ULLMAN; and some others. Shandling's show was on FOX during 1988-1989 but because network TV seasons have more air-dates to fill than cable, the 1986 and 1987 SHOWTIME episodes aired on FOX during 1988-1989.
Classic material. I used to love how he would just talk to the crowd even thought it was a sitcom. I need to find the clip where he falls in the manhole...
I love this song... the funniest and catchiest sitcom theme ever:) It's been on my brain ever since I've heard it, all of a sudden I'll start singing it:P
Same here. I was too young to remember the words (except the 'asked if i would write his theme song' part for some reason) when i used to watch this with my brother, but i remembered the basic tune and its been stuck in my head as well ever since.
This was a great show. It was really very original in the way that Gary played himself and how his whole life was a TV show, kinda like the Truman Show movie. I'm surprized that this show is not better remembered today, as I think that this show actually had a big influence on the best sitcom of the '90s Seinfeld.
This was one of the best shows ever. I agree with with dillzboy and release the DVD set. Does anyone have any more videos or a web page where we can find more shows.
I would have liked to put online the episode this intro came from, but I'm missing the last 4 or 5 minutes or so. Nothing's more frustrating than watching an episode and not being able to see the end! Thus why I didn't upload it...
Randy Newman's a genius, but he didn't write this song. Shandling and Alan Zweibel wrote the lyrics, I believe the composer on the show wrote the melody.
haha gave you a thumbs up for that comment, toasterdevil. Dont know how you got 2 thumbs down, but as your 9 year old/voltaire reading self would know, im sure it was for the best!
I just found the Larry Sanders Show 4 disc DVD at Big Lots! Garry Shandling is funny!
I sang this theme song earlier to my kids and they thought it was hilarious. I had to come find it on youtube.
