Funny thing is, I didn't even know about the 3000's screen issues until a little bit ago when someone commented about it here on YouTube.
One unfortunate "feature" of the 3000's screen, which you failed to mention, are the VERY noticeable scan lines that appear when there's movement. It's very distracting when watching a video, I can only imagine how must look in a game with fast scrolling or animation.
The PSP-2000 does have slight ghosting and lesser color saturation, but overall I find the PSP-3000 a step backwards for screen standards.
@Apple2gs The extremely visible scan lines that aren't really visible in the video? The PSP 3000 had a bad batch of units near launch that had very noticeable scan lines. The screen on the 3000 is a drastic improvement over the muddy blur of the 2000.
@dmgice I saw one in a second hand shop last week, there was UMD movie disc on on display and the video was almost unwatchable in the scan lines. It's possible it was a very early 3000 though. I'll have to look at a late model 3000 next time I'm in a store.
My PSP-2000 is modded so I can play homebrew software, like emulators. If the 3000 were easily moddable and didn't have the scanlines issue, I'd probably upgrade to one. :)

It's more than just visible in motion, the whole new pixel structure was just terrible. The PSPgo's screen however was awesome... but I'm not a fan of the lack of a umd drive. Plus the controls on the go were uncomfortable.

@eternaltwlight Have you seen any of the recent batches of units? It's a hardware issue that only happens in some units. Both the 3000 and the Go have scanline issues in some units. You can even see "scanlines" on some of the DSi, DSi XL, DS Lite, PSP 1000, and PSP 2000 units. It's only an issue for people who are looking for an issue.

1000 is the best i have a 3000 second hand!!! it wont charge so i have to use a desk top charger or use a battery from my trusty 1000 and not have the cover over it! get a long battery life when using a 1000 battery in a 3000 model! psp1000 with custom firmware and a 16gb memory stick i only use my 3000 to play titles that require offical firmware 55.5 and later!

One thing I noticed between the 2000 and 3000 is that the 3000 model's body feels more of a "Matte" finish, and the 2000 feels more "Glossy", plus the ring in the back is different(2000's is fatter, 3000's is alot thinner)
Which is why I mention that it is charging in the video and demonstrate the levels. It's the color DEPTH not "brightness" that is increased in the 3000.

The 1000 is the original phat PSP. The two in the video are the 2000 and the 3000 respectively.
The PSP Go is the sliding one and it has a much smaller screen. It's product name is N1000.

the best is 2000 i ve changed my fully hackable 2000 to the toys center with a 3000 (because i think the screen was better) but after few days i returned in to the shop and brutally take the 2000 and leave the 3000 on the table...why? the 2000 is fully hackable and u can recover it if bricks and in my opinion the screen of 3000 is too brilliant colours that seems it cartoon graphic (like wow XD) for games like gta liberty city stories. also te resolution of 2000 is little better.

If you prefer the washed out contrast of the PSP 2000, you can go into the options on the 3000 and turn the Color Space option to "OFF."

I got the fatty 1000 still and I think I'm sold on upgrading now. I always hated watching videos on the train with it because the brightness was shit or washed out constantly.

I like sony. Im the owner of a psp 2000 and a ps3 80GB and i love both and think the romote play features are kick ass. But its retarded that the psp has had 3 models and if u rly look at them not much has changed. so what u get a built in mic with the 3000. would it kill someone to go buy a 6 dollar mic for the 2000. People dont appreicate the older shit once the newer shit comes out they abandonn the systems that made the way for the ones we have now.
