  • This is the Meshuggah that I love... some of their new stuff is ok, but IMO... this "thrashy" version of the math masters is the best incarnation... I would love to hear them break out at least one more album like this... or a mix of this and DEI or Chaosphere....

  • @McBuckable You'd be surprised at how many ppl didn't even know that.....

  • you can really hear the metallica influence in this album. and jens looks a lot like marten hagstrom with long hair.

  • I like that 85% of all comments is "Is that Jens on vocals?" "Haake on drums?" haha. Btw whats the deal with the text/video? I love Meshuggah and I love this great fucking song but was Meshuggah heroin-addicts? ^_^

  • Is the vocalist Jens? :>The drummer is Haake, right?

  • @Ast1337 Yup that's right~

  • Meshuggah always had amazing albums and EPs

  • The Best Song

  • Brutal!!!! Love this track

  • @plaws79 brutalful

  • @McGeeCollin brutaloath!

  • thats fredrik on vocals...him and jens would share that role back in these days

  • Is that guitar player now just the singer or did they hire..... F^ck all lords!! I hate how much time it's gonna take for me to get an answer for this. Everyone die! MmmK

  • I kinda like this..............

  • id say this is as dark and heavy as bleed.not as obscure of video though :p

  • they had no idea how "crazy" their music would be in the future, and how huge they would be!!!!

  • lmao pause at 4:53

  • Comment removed

  • 3:18 hahaha!!

  • It's so weird to see them using 6 strings now!

  • @thrashmetalfan96

    he plays 7-string ibanez

    look at 1:00

  • is the drummer tomas haake?

  • @CafeDkP13

That's him, no doubt about it. What did you mean? Whether he was the member of the band at that time when this video had been made or the drummer in it seems someone else? Because for me not.

  • @CafeDkP13 Yup. He's done every record with them except the Psykisk Testbild EP

  • wow looks like Jens can play some killer guitar. did he give it up or something?

  • @duardoCOB He wanted to focus on vocals instead. He still plays guitars sometimes I think he even has a endorsement deal with some company?

  • old as balls.!

  • The riff at 2:38 (including the solo) is brutally technical!!!

  • @RobbKongMetal999 not agreed man. actually riffs r quite simple if u listen closely. i'm no musician but its obvious that from 2:37 to 3:05 the riff is 5 notes + 1 other note then its repeating. from 3:07 to 3:30 riff is 3 notes + other 4 notes than its repeating. u can clearly hear it from 3:19 to 3:30 when jens quits singing. once again i'm no guitarist so i cant name notes correctly but this is it.

  • @polkadotpuss

After I posted this, I realized my mistake. I did not actually mean to use "technical". It is just much more precise and amazing than anything out today.

    This song is just awesome!

Sorry for my mistake. Thank you for pointing it out!

    Keep It Metal!

  • @RobbKongMetal999 lol its kinda nerdy but just realized that i've mixed up. actually from 3:07 to 3:30 it goes like 111-11-11---111-11-111 (if 1 is a note). so its not 3 notes + 4 notes but 3+4+3+5 or more correctly 3+2+2+3+2+3. lol in case of meshuggah u never know what they're playing especially if u r no musician. and this is only their early music and not their fastest track. i cant track most of their late stuff without pen & paper lol.

  • @polkadotpuss

    Indeed.

I love Meshuggah's old material like this. Their newer stuff is okay but I felt their Thrash material had serious bite and power to it.

  • bonk bonk bonk

  • Jens and Fredrik shared lead vocals back then, Jens sounds like James Hetfield on steroids, and Fredrik sounds kinda like Robb Flynn of Machine Head.

    Jens:

Cadaverous Mastication, Sovereigns Morbidity, Paralyzing Ignorance, Internal Evidence, We'll Never See the Day

    Fredrik:

Debt of Nature, Erroneous Manipulation, Abnegating Cecity, Qualms of Reality, Greed

  • Snare shot at 2:12 is WTF WAS THAT??!

  • @frankfritter35 agreed that was crazy. sounded almost like gunshot.

  • 3:06-3:18 has to be one of the best "things" in metal, or music for that matter.

  • pioneers of the 7 string in metal

  • hahaha so fukcing old... god though :D

  • My favorite song bulgariaaaa

  • Long haired Jens Kidman!!

  • Comment removed

  • so this was before tomas?

  • meshuggah!

    MESHUGGAH¡.

  • the best part is the pre-breakdown at 3:07-3:31

  • witch one of them is jens the one with the v dot guitar?

  • @darkarchon777 the one singing

  • @darkarchon777 my bad, fredrik is singing on this song, i know martin is to the left of him so jens would be the one on the left of the screen in the white shirt

  • @gibbsies thx for the info

  • Just got into these guys recently, didnt know they existed for some odd reason, but god damn there good, no denying that.

  • Four not normal metal fanatic guys from Sveden!Jens and Fredrik on vocals! WOAH!It's a good song but I prefer Meshuggah with Morten and Haake, anyway,it is ok.

  • @szelidrocker wtf, can you not see Haake on the drums? Or are you blind? Bass player is definately peter nordin, or whoever came before Pete. But that's fucking Haake himself on the drums.

  • @szelidrocker it is Haake you twit

  • jens have long hair lol

  • this is when Jens played lead guitar

  • maybe Im wrong but i dont think jens ever played leads in meshuggah

  • @sulfid6392 sorry bro but you are wrong, he says it in a Faceculture interview with Jens, and in this video it shows him playing guitar

  • @CarterUSAF i didnt say he didnt play the guitar, but i think he only played rhythm guitar, cause its fredrik whos singing this song and playing leads

  • @sulfid6392 ohh yeah your probably right

  • I remember when I watched this for the first time in 1991. It came in a Nuclear Blast compilation with other weird acts like Pungent Stench, Disharmonic Orchestra, Mortification, etc... For all of us who were listening to metal since mid to late 80's this was definitely super strange. Around 1993 I stopped listening to metal until sometime in 2007, and to my surprise all the younger kids were talking about Messhugah. When I listened to their new stuff I was blown away! Metal has changed so much!

  • la evolucion de su musica en ese momento a lo q es hoy...ES INCREIBLEMENTE E INMENSAMENTE GENIAL!!!!!!!

  • Geez, this is almost 20 years old...

  • Young ones!

  • omfg they're so little! :D

  • This is one of my favorites by Meshuggah.

  • is that tomas haake on drums?

  • Yeah he is, doesn't he look young lol, like the rest of em too of course

  • This is not Jens singing it's Fredrick, Jens is the guy with the blond hair and polka dot V guitar

  • why the fuck don't they play this shit live?

  • @milleralive

I would love to see them play this song and others from CC live, but I don't think they will because they haven't played this kind of metal for like 19 years, and I don't think they can relate to these songs anymore.

  • haha nice

    gang vocals :)

  • Check out the song Ritual. Fucking awsome.

  • @amusingisthedawn Yo i just heard that shit two days ago, fucking blew me away.

  • @amusingisthedawn No shit captain obvious.

  • its so weird seeing jens singing and playing guitar haha

  • It's also weird seeing him with so much hair!

  • Even with their old stuff they're quite inventive on their style. Gotta love all the off beat drum/guitar patterns. I believe this was from the late 80's and why it's so thrashy. Some of my fav. Meshuggah songs are on this album.

  • @gleegin

    early 90s

  • @gleegin

True, but I'm still very glad that Haake joined :D

  • @gleegin

I believe it was recorded around 1991 but it is quite thrashy, yet inventive.

  • @gleegin it's actually from 1991, i really enjoy this album too, but the rest are awesome too.

  • @gleegin It not I presume that this is from 93 since mårten wasnt in the band before that :)

  • @M0ntalvo No...

at that time Mårten hadent begun :)

  • @thenameiwantedwasnta sry you have things mixed. Mårten came in '93 but this vid/song is from their '91 album contradictions collapse

  • @M0ntalvo ,Obviously...?

But the thing is that mårten is in the video so... could you please explain that?

  • @thenameiwantedwasnta I didn't type Obviously but where is he?

  • @M0ntalvo 0:19 guitarist with flying V :)

  • @thenameiwantedwasnta Im pretty sure that is Fredrik Thordendal. There are 4 members in this video. Meshuggah has 5 now. 1 person is missing and that would be Mårten Hagström. That is why Jens is playing guitar and not Mårten. When Jens stopped, Mårten came in 93 and started to play for Jens. This Vid/Song is 91. Mårten came 2 years later.

  • @M0ntalvo Oh well Where is Jens in this vid?

  • @thenameiwantedwasnta Jens is the one Singing/Playing Guitar in the middle

  • @M0ntalvo Nope

    thats fredrik :)

But You are right about that the video is from 91 because The V guitarist is Jens :)

  • @thenameiwantedwasnta Jens is siningg like he always does he stoped playing guitar to sing better if you havnt noticed

  • @MrFlagon Get your facts straight :)

This is clearly not Jens singing...

  • @thenameiwantedwasnta your so wrong it clearly is Jens his vocals got harder when he put the guitar down and held the mic with 2 hands your a clown

  • @MrFlagon the main singer of this song is fredrik, jens is off to the side on guitar

  • @MrFlagon check out the solo at 2:15 it is clearly fredrik in the middle,

  • @junkyardw nah thats me

  • @thenameiwantedwasnta your so wrong it clearly is Jens his vocals got harder when he put the guitar down and held the mic and swith 2 hands and shaved his head your a clown

  • @MrFlagon @M0ntalvo

    Jens on vocals: /watch?v=lZZLpVFsdyA

Fredrik on vocals: /watch?v=rXz95XEHRQU (same show)

  • @thenameiwantedwasnta

Who is it then?? Jens Kidman was always the singer. He also played rhythm guitar up until Contradictions Collapse. Then Marten Hagstrom came in and has been playing the guitar since the None EP. Jens Kidman had long hair back then. And he's blonde. You get your facts straight :)

  • @PrinzEugenMCMLXXXIII Dude... Kiddman is the guitarist with the flying V :)

You can easily hear that its not him singing...

  • @thenameiwantedwasnta

4:53 Ok, it's Thordendal. Never knew he had wavy hair.

  • @thenameiwantedwasnta Fredrik does not sing he only does backing vocals.

  • @M0ntalvo Erhm... im sorry but in this album there were shared vocals.... :)

  • @thenameiwantedwasnta hmm you mayb rite on that but for the most part Jens is the main singer who did most of the vocals for pretty much all meshuggah releases

  • @M0ntalvo I know :)

  • @M0ntalvo If you check live footage from this era, you can see the songs Jens (who played a flying V back then) performed vocals on

  • frederick and jens shared singing on thin album . this song is frederick singing

  • grotesque

  • i prefer old meshuggah over new meshuggah..

  • Sound very thrashy and not groovy at all.

  • awesome, video, awesomer song, awesomerer band

and the face at 4:54 scared the shit outta me lol

  • What did they tune to back then?

The bass sounds very high pitched as it is today...and it sounds like it the guitars are like B-standard, lowest...

  • Can anybody tell me who's singing?

Once I thought it was Jens, but looking at him better reminds me more Fredrick.

So is it Jens or Fredrick?

  • It was jens singing, backing vocals fredrik and marten wasn't even in the band at the time.

  • the snare punch at 2:13 sounds like a fucking gunshot! POWER!

  • @Jackoroth You hate yourself

  • You'd know would you?

    Douche bag.

  • Is this from their first album?

  • indeed.

  • It's a wig.

  • techno groove-thrash metal

  • Damn! I thought Transfixion was their first ever video.

  • love the swing

  • Comment removed

  • The guitar at 00:18 reminds me of one of the solos in tmlwyb.

  • It's like old Metallica with fucking technical sounds, especially Jens had voice like James and his playing was great!

  • i thought per nordin played bass on this. i even read interviews with him where he talked about the opening riff to this very song...

  • You're right, it is Nordin. I have this CD too, it says nothing about Hagstrom. He joined for the None EP

  • @tsnowsill i think that is where people get confused. Most people bought CC after it was re-released as CC/None.

    -Oz

  • Its tomas. and Martin is Playing Bass. I looked in the booklet for the cd.

  • The first Meshuggah I ever owned was this album and I always fuking loved this song. Now I lost it.

  • is that tomas? i cant tell if it is. and also is that martin playing bass?

  • One of their best ones

  • They way it should be.

  • very thrashy those screams from behind

  • Terminal Illusions from Future Breed Machine

  • Ive been asking around these videos about a video they did were Jens is holding a camcorder and hes walking around the band filming while they play the song. i cant even remember the name of the god dam song but the song/video was sick as fuck. anyone know what im talking about?

  • Jens was singing and playing guitar in old meshuggah days (in this video : Tomas drumming, Martin, Frederik and Jens are on guitar and bass)

  • It's the clip for Terminal Illusions

  • this is tomas

  • It's not Jens who's singing but Fredrik, they share volcas on their first album

  • Yeah, but Jens also did quitars on the first album as well.

  • wow, look how young tomas is.

  • thats not tomas

  • What? I thought Tomas played on this album.

  • It is him.

  • Meshuggah is a brilliant band with talented men. Jens is fucking owns on guitar and vocals.

  • holy shit! jens has hair! lol

  • meshuggah rlz!

  • I live just 10-15 minutes from those silo's you see now and then in the video =)

  • The good old days. This is there best cd ever! It is fantastic! I was one of the first here in The Faroe Islands who knew there music!

  • see 33

  • oh god come on how can a band be this fucking good??? Seriously guys meshuggah are brilliant

  • fredrik thordendal on vocals... nice.

  • Nah man, that's Kidman when he had long ass hair. Hahaha.

  • No your wrong ;P thordendal on vocals... He sings alot on the first cds...Their vocal sound almost the same..

  • I was just joking, i was being a bit facetious. I know it's Thordendal. I don't think Kidman could grow that kinda hair.

  • So you see you white-coated freak, I don't need your allegations! Instead, join me into sanity's end with my sweet needle of salvation!

    *DUN DUN DUHH!*

Increasing need of my only friend -the one I trust. He runs in my veins and hides me away, under his soothing crrrruuuuuussst!

FUCK! I can't believe it's been over 10 years since I started listening to these guys. I love Meshuggah.

  • lol back when jens had hair. lolololol XD

  • what a super great fuck meshuggah was and still the best

  • Meshuggah is a great band, but this album of theirs was a terrible attempt at mimicking Metallica. It's the only Meshuggah album I don't like. But it's cool to see Jens Kidman back when he still had hair...lol.

  • I don't like the singing in this album, but the music is awesome. Riffs and everything are just blowing my mind.

Meshuggah is definitely on of the best bands I know.

  • actually, yes, Meshuggah is the best band in the world.

  • this sounds like a metallica song that would be on the injustice for all album....fuck this is badass cant wait to see these guys on the 20th of feb

  • saw them on the 8th in vancouver

HOLY FUCKING SHIT does not even do the band justice and no combinations of words in any human language ever will

  • I completely agree, you couldn't have put it better.

  • wow pretty cool seeing meshuggah from years ago and this video kicks ass.

  • By the way, when's the last time anyone saw Tomas moshin' like that at 1:56 ? XD

  • You're gettin' old Tommy!!!

Nah, fuck that. Tomas Haake is my favourite drummer ever. So THERE!!! : )

  • MESHUGGAH!!!!!!!!!!

  • 3:08! Yeah!

  • DUDE I KNOW!!!

  • (that was aimed at cutbell)

  • Tomas Haake of Meshuggah always uses words in his songs that I have never heard in my life. He is an incredible song writer/poet.

  • OH MY GOD!!!

Where the hell did you get this?!?!?!?

What a cool look back on such an R/evolutionary band.
