I knew when I first saw this race on ESPN classic that the Tobacco Free livery car would stink something fierce because they didn't have enough money to get a car that could compete with the Marlboro machine. Unfortunate how that works.
I LOVED how the field was introduced this year, as it has been in years before it. It shows a little about EACH driver and gives us an idea about the men and women who put their lives on the line to race at Indy and entertain us, the fans.
so many of the legends at indy were in this race in addition to the upcoming stars that became legends of their own over the next 15 years, this field was the best of the best
Cream of the crop really. Mears, Fittipaldi, Unser Sr., Johncock, Mario Andretti, Foyt, Sneva, Luyendyk, Rahal, Sullivan -all previous winners- nearly a 1/3 of the field. Johnny Rutherford attempted to qualify but didn't make it.
But yeah, kinda like the biggest all star race ever.
