  • iveseen and heard some anthems in my time but nothing quite like this, beautiful, fantastic, awesome, and on and on,well done cathy cos if you had'nt won we would'nt have been priveliged to watch this fabulous spectacle CONGRATULATIONS from england.

  • Cant help but to get teary

  • every time i watch this tears come to my eyes. God bless you Cathy.

  • Do you have women's 200m medal ceremony? If u have pls upload it :)

    Thank you!

  • could they have played the anthem any faster?

  • An inspiriation to indigineous people everywhere.

  • I remember this moment as if it was yesterday what a beautiful thing. Thank you so much for posting. I love the emotion by Loraine Graham and also how Katherine Merry just smilied as she heard the crowd sing and celebrate their champion. Thanks for posting.

  • I've watch it live... and i have cryed...

  • ive always looked down on the aborigonal people as a misguided people in australia taking advantage of the government and its people but seeing this clip made me proud to be australian and that all men are created = *abraham lincoln* well done cathy freeman!

  • i love that she is singing in the aboriginal lanuage! She is such a legend! Aussie Aussie Aussie! OI OI OI

  • Man oh man,,,, she was running like if 10 mad dogs were chasing her

  • I am reading wonderful book now, ebout Cathy Freeman, it tells about her whole life and i just really like it!

  • To all the ill-informed racists, Freeman actually also has English and Chinese ancestry and is a wonderful example of the rich cultural diversity in this wonderful country. I am proud to be an Aussie of mixed anglo-celtic ancestry. I am proud of Cathy Freeman. I am ashamed of petty racism.

  • she won because she's black. Best athletes in the world ;)

  • she won because she is good at chasing kangaroos

  • Stupid order to award the medals in, why don't they build up the excitement from bronze up to gold rather than decrease it as the medals go down.

Still that must be an amazing memory for Cathy Freeman.

  • And to all "One Nation"-voting racist fuckers: IN YOUR FACE!

  • Wow!

  • as much as i love this.. it really depresses me that this is now 10 years ago, i miss that time. i was 10

  • @prafty me too, i was 10 too, yet so clear in my memory.

  • The country belongs to her and her people.

    All this cheer is guilt.

  • @caravaggio31 mate, you know nothing, she has british in her. we have united now.... the british are gone. its now a multicultural australia. get out of our channels...

  • @Troobudd I'm sorry but this is cinical.

YOUR channels? You made me laugh now.

  • @caravaggio31 lol that wasn't even worth the effort was it? substance mate, substance...

  • @caravaggio31 That's a very ignorant thing to say. The people in Australia today cannot be held accountable for the actions of people one hundred years ago. That's a very naive way of looking at history.

What is important is Cathy Freeman, whislt proud of her heritage, united with Australians everywhere when she represented Australia. You can't take that away from her, even with your simplistic attempt at looking at a complex history. It's not guilt, I am proud to call Cathy an Australian.

  • Wow, seems like just a couple of years ago. The Sydney games were quite special, one of the best olympics. This medal ceremony was amazing and very moving. and it still is. Thanks for uploading this. Peace

  • @FaddleonLSD you can take that kind of attitude and leave Australia with it. We certainly don't need ignorant, racist people like you here. She is an icon of overcoming adversity to achieve ones goals. If your to narrow minded and clearly that foolish you don't deserve to call yourself an Australian.

  • @FaddleonLSD that is truly disgusting. She is a hero to all Australians.

  • @FaddleonLSD Disgusting.

  • you no you have done your country proud when you can hear the stadium singing along with you :) well done Cathy, how im proud to be a Australian

  • I´d like to know what was going on in Queensland after this race. Did these "One Nation" racists bite their asses out of frustration? Did some of them commit self-immolation out of protest against an "animal" winning Gold for "White Australia"? And for how many of their idiot voters was this the worst day of their lives?

  • @stipefan11 One Nation and racists are limited to Queensland. True story, bro.

  • Not a dry eye in the house

  • The night Australia went nuts. World record athletics crowd of 112,524 saw this race live.

  • Tears of joy...every time I watch this!

  • i love lorraien graham she did very well excelente

  • Gostei .Ela foi e ainda é o símbolo da Austrália!!! Valeu CATHY FREEMAN !!!!!

  • Still brings a tear to ones' eye.

  • In the words of Bruce McAvaney:

"What a legend, what a champion".

  • Ladies and Gentlemen, that's the sound of 160,000 people proudly singing their national anthem in perfect unison.

  • she sang the national anthem in aboriginal

  • @simonbong97 really?

  • Best Olympics ever !!! Without doubt.

Not just a big splashy show but the rigtht spirit! Fun.

Advance Australia Fair from the USA.

  • She is absolutely amazing! I will never forget her run during the Olympics! Probably the greatest moment in Australia's rich sporting history.

  • It was great to see her run. I read her biography and was very impressed by her character and humility. She displayed all those qualities on the award podium. wwhat a terrific athlete. May the aboriginal ancestors rejoice!

  • One of the joyous gold medal winner I have ever seen.

  • the hopes and support from 20million very very proud fellow Australians.

  • She won the silver medal in the 1996 olympics for the 400m.

  • WELL DONE KATHY AUSSIE PRIDE

  • 3º winner is identic at williams prince!..

  • Make every day Australia Day. It worked for her.

  • She really is a hero, the first aborgine who won a gold a true australian.. congratulations!

  • Thanks not true

An Aboriginal girl won gold in the hockey at the previous olympic games before this one

  • Nova Peris-Kneebone, member of the Australian Women's Hockey team, was the first aborgine who won gold (Atlanta 1996) in olympic history. Cathy won the first single gold medal!

  • she's my hero because the obstacles she would have faced back then, as an aboriginal, like discrimination and lesser opportunities for careers in athletics(as you know, racism was really big back then), and she overcame all that, got the opportunity, and worked her ass off even more so because of her background...and then to beat everyone at this final, to set records, to get good results after so many races...it reallymeans she had a VERY strong will and would carry through adversity.

  • @Mie133 Not the first, I think that was Nova Peris-Kneebone.

  • i am upset more people haven't seen this video.

and that this is still happening in this day. and that this is not a well wide known issue.

the aboriginies need more attention from the world !! why dont the aboriginies go the united nations and get them to recognise their own state ?? in the same way the palestinians are now doing, and the lakota native american indians are trying to do in the usa.

    a legal aboriginal state entity.

fuck white racists and their system still doing it today !

  • listen to the stadium sing - that is amazing

  • hearing over 100k people singing in unison must be an awesome experience

  • 160,000, to be precise. Astonishing.

  • I was very impressed by all the people singing the Ausi national anthem. Most Americans can sing past, "... by the dawns early light..." This is by far the most memorable non-political awards ceremony I have ever witnessed.

  • isn't that the truth! in the U.S. i hardly ever hear them sing the national anthem instead they are to busy deciding weather or not to Boo the singer lol

  • who cares? this moment was more than pomp and ceremony for aussies.

  • She lit the Olympic Flame and won gold in the women's 400m! Congratulations, Cathy!
