so is this car like good in the snow? see im thinking of buying one and its between the S5 and the 335xi. And yes i need awd cause were i live there is tons of snow. Another question can an S5 beat a mustang?
Choose the S5 over the BMW. Trust me. And yes. The S5 will destroy a mustang any day of the week. If you add some boost.... Forget about it. You'll toast lambos left and right.
It would be much better than a BMW in the snow obviously because of the AWD but in this vid I think the TC is turned off because if you floor the throttle with it turned on the car learns the surface and the wheels won't spin.
stratosM3 - it all depends on the tires you use on S5. If you use the stock sport tires - don't expect to do too well. All season tires would be much better - and you would be able to drive it in the winter with no problem. Winter tires with the quattro - you could go through almost anything (that the ride height would allow).
Doesn't the S5 come with the new 40/60 center diff instead of the regular 50/50 one? I figured it would be more tail happy, but judging from the first part of the video it looks to push quite a bit entering the turn still. Maybe they should have gone with the 30/70 unit in the R8. Now I just need to figure out how to shove the R8 center diff into my old B5 A4.
travelbytommy - the R8 is actually a 15/85 default. It's also not a mechanical torsen based set-up so it doesn't work on the sedans. The S5's Torsen system is 40/60 default but go 15/85 to 60/40 depending on the traction conditions. I actually wrote to Audi of America to find out why the cars didn't have the R8's set-up and they explained it to me. By the next generation things might change - especially if the new sport differential catches on.
the sport differential is nothing new. Audi had a rear differential in it's early cars. When Audi went to an electronically assisted Torsen AWD in 1998 (at least for the A4) they removed the rear differential because of the electronic countermeasures trying to do the same thing. Then a few years ago someone figured out that the electronic system could not control the brakes as effectively as they would have liked, so adding the rear Torsen diff with the electronics fixed their problem.
Firstly you have to turn the ESP system off and even though it is hard to make this car drifting. Once you turned off the system you must find right accordance of speed, acceleration ammount and turning degree. Its all about a proportion of three mentioned things.
Thanks :) Sometimes its great to know that it can't drift because it gives you the assurance of safety. But sometimes a little fun can be nice and the S5 seems perfect, my family's checking one out this weekend.
What did you have to do to drift it? Or is it because of the new Quattro system on it? I've had three Audis and we can never spin them out because of the great system.
