Australia, like anywhere else politicians waste oxygen, at least has a commitment to do the right thing and approach neutrality carefully. The US is so steeped in being the worlds police, that I doubt the US will ever have a sympathetic relationship with our foreign friends, or with the environment.

I do so like the lyrics of the song, as with all the oils songs, they actually have a message to deliver, and are usually delivered with a passion that is unknown here in the US.

Not all politicians are crooked, but they "owe" people for getting them elected. "Favours" are done that are a clear conflict of interest. (Peter Garrett and Uranium mines?) Politicians build their careers on lies, deceit and corruption, not necessarily in that order.

No one is immune from the way business in politics is "done".

I remembered that "the oils" planed to play live someware in scandinavia at the beginning of 2003. Me and my brother decided to go to the concert were evere it was.... Suddenly mr Garrett decided to quit and there was no concert at all. I am still sad about this....

A lot of poor are weak or stupid, and they'd rather blame liberals, who remind them they're poor, for failure than themselves. They don't blame the rich, since they look up to them.

The first time I heard Midnight Oil I wasn't old enough to appreciate them. I loved the songs, but didn't get the lyrics. Now, I think they were absolutely ingenious. No band before or since has ever been able to fuse incredible songs with such powerful stories. Save maybe Justin Timberlake (that was a joke)

After seeing the Oils in Philly we waited for Garrett til 2 AM to come out,he signed autogs and then i'll never forget he spindled down in the passenger seat of a TOYOTA for the drive back to his hotel waving as he left-no star system- Talk about the power and passion !
