This was the best year for Texas all-state!!! The music was amazing i cried at the concert while i was singin...lol! I made it again this year....it was great but 2010 was the BEST yet!

Either way, this is incredible for the amount of time, but shenandoah has some of the easiest harmonies. And, while Texas does Have the most students competing, unless ur ACDA, don't go spouting ur the best. I've been in Texas and NJ State. 08 texas was incredible but in 09 paled against NJ and Even Idaho.

honey @lcyveins906 - it is a birthright, and requirement to be full of oneself if one is from Texas. ;) I'm no pro....heck - I'm not even an amateur....but they sound pretty darn good if you ask me. @babiiboo2434 Keep in mind...that this all state choir had 3 days to learn 4 new pieces of music, plus rehearse the already chosen material. Also keep in mind that this is a group that has never sung together before so they had to learn to blend in with each other. I am so honored to have been apart of it. so do us a favor, and stop criticizing, just praise.

@ShelbyDucote yeah all state HIGH SCHOOL team. and my choir isn't a varsity choir. we've traveled everywhere. we have so many trophy's that we have to keep a second large classroom as storage! and even if that was a rehearsal my choir sounded better than this on our first practice day!

What you have offered as "evidence" to support your claim are merely trite plastic trophies and mediocre performances at community venues, none of which truly measure up to the merit of several judges' critical approval over many rounds of auditions. @ShelbyDucote Especially in Texas. A music teacher told me that if you make anything in All State, choir, band, orchestra, etc., in Texas only, you should consider yourself to be one of the top 5% high school musicians in the country. I'm not sure how accurate that is, but it seems reasonable.

@CaffeinatedCassadie Yes and no. Yes, you are competing against many more kids, but the level of musical education can vary so widely especially in Texas that it is hard to get an accurate gauge. In terms of the ACDA rankings, Texas has fallen at 7, 4, 5, 3, and 5 in the last five years respectively. New Jersey, Tenesee, California, and a few others are up there too.

@Icyveins906 no offense but Cali is not up there and hasnt been a long time and Cali has one of the worst Music Conference-High School wise! trust me ive looked it up in the rankings! and im from NM and they fallen back since my 2007 year which was my last year..if you listen to 2002 NMMEA All State Mixed Choir..thats the year that put NM i n the map!

@sexyking19 What sort of ranking would judge state choirs? And what would make these choirs one of the worst conferences? I say that people should not look into the ranking of state choirs and which one's are superior because overall it seems quite child-ish. The purpose of All State Honor Choirs is to bring together musicians who have the same love and passion for music and as a collective unit, they shall make beautiful art.

@sexyking19 I went to San Diego, CA looking for a music job and their public schools have music as an after school event, like football, and the teachers teach part time. No small wonder that CA public school music programs suffer.

Thanks for posting. I was impressed by this group's sound, diction, etc. Just looking at them I can see the respect they are giving to the director, the piece, and themselves. And i was beginning to think that great choral traditions in high school were fading away. I cherish the memories of the small moments of beauty we made at Allstate.

@dianaruth Don't be so full of yourself. about 8 states could be considered the "best" and it varies year to year. This is also the easiest song to make sound good. The balance tuning still needs work. The female duet should mesh with the men as a glowing, ringing sound to compliment the almost mournful sound of the men as they go. Even so, you guys did this song great justice. It only needed more repetition as an ensemble to perfect it. 9.6 at the high school level, 8.4 at the pro level.

@Icyveins906 You do understand this was a rehearsal right? Also this song was only given to them two days before this video was made. This was also one of 8 or 9 songs that they had to sing. So don't be so full of YOURself and try to make high school students feel less about this accomplishment. That just makes you seem like a jealous has been.

I think Ticheli ripped off the triple echo/cannon in the ladies voices and put it in his own Shenandoah composition replacing the ladies voices with the flutes. Just a thought.
