I find it really hard to believe that's the foam is ok! Everytime I have a panic attack deciding whether to rinse with extremely hot water or just let it be
@eddiesizer -- It is really all good. I've been brewing for four years and rack on top of StarSan foam since the beginning. It doesn't affect taste or ruin beer. Now, that being said, I wouldn't rack onto a half-gallon of the sanitizer liquid.... but the foam itself is so miniscule once it's starts breaking down. Don't fear it. Watch some of our episodes and you'll see that the beers turn out just fine! Cheers! Chip @ Northern Brewer / Brewing TV
I can't stand theses things. Even when putting all the way down to the bottom of the carboy, they always seem to aerate the wort. What a pain in the ass.
I like "do not fear the foam." It's true. How does that brett porter taste? I might make an all-brett batch this summer, split into two 3-gallon batches and use a diff strain for each. Ha, nice cameo Chip. High fiving action!
@tarogue1 ...push the hose further onto the racking cane as you lightly twist the hose. Otherwise, if it still won't budge, you can always cut the hose off and slice the bit that's left on the cane.
I love the Castro beards!!

@u2shawn That's not wort. It's beer. Aerating wort is a good thing. Aerating beer...not so much.

do you need to have a beard to bew beer? because i'm working on both right now.

I would make sure that the end of the hose is all the way down in the secondary, so the beer doesn't get airated (sp?) when racking.
Nice video though!

Someone needs to make auto-siphons with stainless steel canes. I've broken 4 canes trying to removes the hose.
