@hecbiz75 I have to say, (coming from an old school guy) I really appreciate the skill it requires to pull this stuff off. But it still sounds like crap. Nothing wrong with liking what you like, but this is stuff that any skilled musician and write off the top of his head. It's just a bunch of fast licks stuck together and growling lyrics. Sure, NOT EASY TO DO. And I give major props for pulling it off. Great musicianship --but it'd be nice if there were more "musicality."

@plangentmusic I think you're missing the point of the music. You don't have to like it, so if it sounds like crap to you, fair enough. If there was more "musicality" it wouldn't be brutal death metal - it perhaps would move back into classic metal or thrash territory. Fans of this music like it PRECISELY because it's brutal as fuck. Take that away and it's something else. Ever heard of Obscura? I LOVE them, but they're not Cannibal Corpse, see? I need them both.

@hecbiz75 All valid points and of course, it comes down to taste. But I think Slayer are pretty brutal but they have SONGS. And obviously not "anybody" can write a song like this, but I'd say it's be more likely for someone to write a bunch of fast licks than for most of these guys to construct a traditional composition with changes and a memorable melody. But again...it all comes down to taste.

@treetrunkss940 I'd say this song is harder to play with pick than fingers. Lots of hopping from string to other and at least for me those are much harder to play with pick than fingers. This player has perfect picking style whick isn't easy to train.

If you really want to moan when someone's using pick to play, feel free to make your own version of the song and play it with pick if it's so easy.

I know alot of the guys in the comments are saying stuff like fuck people who are hating on the pick or it doesn't matter. But it does matter. Being a death metal bass player using my fingers i really dislike when other bass players do it. I mean, your left hand is all good, nothing wrong. But i really wanna ask: Why do you use a pick?

@fnuggie But the thing is, it doesn't matter. There's extremely talented players that use either. Some like using the pick for the different tone it gives and some just like the way it feels. I personally use fingers but I occasionally use a pick. Sure, there are plenty of bassists that play simple with a pick just as an easier form of guitar but there are plenty of talented bassists using picks. David Ellefson for example, most of his iconic basslines wouldn't sound the same without one.

Listen to Cannibal (or any other fast band where the bass player uses his fingers for that matter) playing live and thats all you can hear is clicks because fingers don't have enough 'attack' to allow the note to resonate when played at high speeds. This is why Steve Tucker (he told me himself) plays with a pick as well as bands like Slayer, Nile etc. It has nothing to do with how cool it looks or how talented you are but how you want to sound.
