you get the genie by typeing cntrl+shft+c then in the box type boolprop testingcheatsenabled true then shift+click on the mailbox and choose something (i dont remember what) then choose force genie delivery

type in the cheat box "boolprop testingcheatsenabled true" without the quotation marks. hold shift and click on the letterbox. somewhere there in a pie menu or sub-pie menu there is an option to force genie delvery.
also, type in the same cheat and shift click your sim. go through the "spawn" options, and there should be an option to spawn the genie lamp

There's also a painting that you can download (from mod the sims 2, i think) where you can turn your sims into the expansion pack special characters (alien, vampire, etc) and spawn the ones you can't be (bigfoot, genie)
no the ghost is not a side affect i think it was because someone has died on the lot and it was just a funny time when it came up. as far as i know i dont think there are any side affects.
HEHE I rember when i had a genie with its funny hat was so huge LOL! I wished for Wealth and money bags randonly fell of the sky in random places. When that lady was sneaking on my lot i was like oh crap she is going to steal something. it was kool

Isn't genie spelt jinnee? That's how it's spelt in my Tales From the Thousand and One Nights. :)

ps. be VERY careful with that cheat as it can BADLY screw up your game.
dectivate once your done by typing in "boolprop testingcheatsenabled false" in the cheat box without the quotation mark
