Merlene was never cleared by IAAF, the charges were dismissed CAS, which is the governing body for sport, so in accordance to the rules - she would be aloud to compete in IAAF sanctioned events... because of the ruling.. it was the IAAF that brought the charges against her, after testing positive on 3 separate ocassions during the 1999 season. This case is directly responsible for the formation of WADDA.

Merlene Ottey was maybe the best female sprinter in history. i say that with no disrespect to FloJo. But if u look at her whole career it was pretty amazing. And to be competeative at a world class level into her 40's. thats just crazy. She had bad luck in alot of big meets, but if u look at her pr(10.74). Fourth fastest womans time in history. And if u remove (Marion Jones) mark (10.65), ..Ottey has the 3rd fastest time womans time.

51.12s was excellent for a 100m/200m sprinter. I wonder when Ottey achieved it. I guess it was in the early 80s. She could have moved up really and shaved 2 to 3 seconds off the 51.12s if she really trained for it. I can see that Ottey does have the fault of faultering at the final 40m, whether it be 100m or 200m. I wonder therefore how she achieved those 10.62s and 21.64s PBs? It seems she could hold her form elsewhere but never at competition. Training should do her well holding form at the line so maybe she has nervous problems at top competitons. But 51.12s for 400m is excellent, why not try moving up?

Actually Merlene's personal best is 10.74 which she achieved back in 96' At Grand Prix Zurich. Marion Jones is the only woman to run in the 10.60's since Flo Jo. And 51. 12 is not a good time for 400 metres. If Ottey wants to win medals in that even she'll have to shave three secnds of that time and at her age now, it's very unlikely. I can see ya point about the camera angle. Big up to Devers, Cuthbert, Privalova, Torrence, Ottey and Onyali. All six women defined sprinting for the nineties.

Ottey does not have the endurance for 400 metres. If you watch her run any 200 metres you'll see why. Torrence definitly could and so could Privalova. but Ottey and Devers would struggle. What's confusing in this clip is that Privalova bagged the bronze but if you watch the race, it looks like Ottey and Torrence crossed the line way before her. Maybe it's the camera angle. Check it out. Privalova is in lane 6.
