  • it wont do anything, even after i press ctrl and click I NEED help :(

  • thank you <333

  • Hey guys, all she's doing is pressing CRTL and then clicking. But if you want to mess up the face hold CTRL and the left part of your mouse. Lol. And how you undo all of that is press CTRL Z. Alright? Did that help?

  • @Pancakehx3 ^_^ That really helped thanks!!!!

  • nice !

can you make a fake makeup using gimp??

If you can,i will subscribe you :D !

  • GHxx1, you are one hundred percent wrong. Linux supports *way* more hardware than any single Windows release. You are also clueless in that there is absolutely *no* need to compile the kernel. You are right in that there is more commercial software for Windows. So what? Now scuttle back to you little proprietary world and stick your head back in the sand.

nicubunu, thank you very much for taking the time to make this video about the excellent GIMP.

nicubunu, thank you very much for taking the time to make this video about the excellent GIMP.

  • 0:01

  • nicubunu, thanks for this helpful video! I love gimp - FOSS forever.

  • People actually don't realize that Photoshop is seven hundred dollars, while Gimp works just as well, and is free? Wow, they much be arrogant and wealthy.

  • GIMP is for people that don't have money coming out their ass.

  • Put, someone using either of those programs would already HAVE a computer and a monitor. They don't need to buy a new one to use the programs.

  • OR, you don't get paid enough to be able to pay rent, buy food, AND buy Photoshop, asshole.

  • jfrcks, you're an snobby idiot. Too bad your expensive photoshop can't edit your personality.

  • @jfrcks no you can't. I obviously have a computer and a monitor but never had money to buy Photoshop. Most computer users on this planet cannot afford to spend $600 on any software. Besides GIMP is better as it has a Linux version.

  • @jfrcks you really are an idiot software/apps are becoming more expensive which is in demand think about it while hardware are becoming way less expensive i use to buy computers which cost thousands of dollar back then. why spend hundreds of dollars when you can download an equivalent , GIMP its open source meaning its not free but there making something out of it. maybe i'm wrong.

  • ya excactly why waste your money when it has a free versoin that is actually better

  • Or are just pirates.

  • @makeupbycamie

Or it could be free by downloading a torrent :)

  • Can someone do a vid on Smart Shapening ?

  • Is there meant to be sound? :(

  • sorry, my spoken English is quite poor at at the time I wasn't feel confident enough for a voice over. I hoped the iamges are illustrative enough

  • Oh okay! Yes its helpful, I just thought maybe it was me!

  • @nicubunu NOOOOO, WE WANT SOUND....BOOOOOO....lol jk

  • a 600 dollar program Better be better than a free one. But for those of us who Aren't hollywood studios, the gimp and other free programs are wonderful tools for artistic expression. what it looks like is that what's his face up there works for adobe and is getting paid to insult it's competitor. there is no comparison though, the gimp is made by a team of people dedicated to art, whereas photoshop is made by a company with clients to please. if i was making a movie, i'd buy PS. GIMP 4 EVA!

  • That fact that millions of people are willing to spend $600 (or 1000 euro in Europe) for a program like Photoshop, basically shows how much Gimp sucks.

  • I'm afraid you have to back-up with some reference that "millions of people" claim, I doubt millions of people use Photoshop worldwide and AFAIK most of them use *unpaid* copies.

So yeah, more people use "pirated" Photoshop than GIMP, this barely say anything.

  • Basically every every newspaper in the world uses photoshop and has bought tons of licenses for their employees. Almost all Professional photographers use Photoshop. Every gaming studio uses Photoshop, ever 3D modeler uses photoshop, every book publisher with tons of emplyees uses Photoshop, tons of amateurs actually BUY Photoshop, schools use Photoshop, etc. For you to think that there are not millions of registered copies of Photoshop in use, just shows how shortminded you are...sigh

  • Not to mention that pretty much every medium to large sized company of any kind has at least one or more registered copies.

  • But are you sure all of those all of those added are millions, not only hundreds of thousands? And do not forget there are various versions of Photoshop, including Elements and the cheap license for students.

I hope you are aware the biggest Hollywood movie studios use CinePaint (a fork from an old version of GIMP) for their effects work...

  • I don't believe for even ONE moment that there isn't even a single Hollywood studio that doesn't use Photoshop. A do a lot of 3D, hang out a lot CGtalk that is visited by many Hollywood designers, people that worked for movies like Lord of the Rings, and they ALL use Photoshop. I also bet my life on it that even studios that use CinePaint have some copies of Photoshop around.

  • @ GHxx1 - do you have nothing better to do that post on all the GIMP tutorial sites that it sucks? Why does it matter to you so much that you want to spend your time this way?Seems a strange way to spend your time to me.

  • Another one who can't afford Photoshop...sigh

  • "on all the GIMP tutorial sites that it sucks"

I never posted on any GIMP sites. You do know what a "site" is or don't you?

  • But whether 10 millions of copies were sold or 1 million, for Pete's sake....does it really matter, because also the illegal copy of Photoshop is a LOT and I mean a LOT more popular than Gimp, period.

Gimp is nothing but a clone, it has no originality at all, because it tries deperately to look like Photoshop, but fails in every area once you start looking beyind that outer shell. Looks aren't anything, looks can be copied easiliy, but not the technology behind it.

  • Well, so many people complain the GIMP is not a direct clone of the Photoshop interface... the reality is *a lot* of people are able to get their work done using GIMP, including me, and that is all that matter. If some others prefer to use Photoshop instead, that is their freedom.

I really don't understand your point: are you upset some people use GIMP? That some people teach others how to do that? What's your problem?

  • "What's your problem?'

Gimp users bashing Photoshop and saying that Gimp is better, when it actually tried to copy Photoshop in so many ways that it's getting pathetic?

  • Do you saw ME or THIS video saying GIMP is better than Photoshop? I think you are commenting in the wrong place... but I will humour you: GIMP is better than Photoshop FOR me, for a couple of reasons:

    - I use Linux, where GIMP is available and Photoshop don't, so there is not even a competition;

    - I use Free software (as in Freedom, FLOSS), so the availability of the source code is a plus for me.

  • You make a lot of odd choices in your life...

First of all, Linux is a good oeprating system....on the SERVER.

On the desktop it just can't compete with Windows or OS/X and I'm even convinced that it never will.

If you don't believe me, then watch:

Desktop Linux Sucks, And What We Can Do About It

    /watch?v=YoYL4R3Te2s

That's a video done by professionals who have been using Linux on the desktop for years.

  • Free software? That argument is getting old. Windows and OS/X have also TONS of free software, 2D, 3D, web design, music, games, you name it.

I'm happy if Gimp works for you, for me it doesn't, it's doesn't also have any marketing value. It also doesn't impress on a resumee and if you write tutorials like you do, you hardly make any money with it, Photoshop tutorial writers however make tons of money; ads, product commission, affiliation, magazines, sales, etc.

  • I don't have to watch any videos, I know I use it on the desktop everyday and I am happy with it and I know a lot of people who are doing the same.

  • "I don't have to watch any videos"

That just shows weakness on your part.

  • What are you saying as "TONS of free software" in in fact freeware, low quality applications, I talk about freedom, with is a different thing and is not about money.

And please stop already, you are going *way* offtopic, I would hate to be forced to use the blocking feature.

  • What kind of freedom? That you can make changes to your own OS? Here's a wake-up call; 99% of the people don't have any interest in compiling kernels or doing similar stuff at such a technical level. Operating Systems were inventedto support hardware and to run applications, period. The support for hardware on the Windows platform is tons of times better than on Linux, tons! The support of commercial software is tons of times better with Windows! Why else does Linux have Wine...

  • Well, I am one of those 1% who care. And I haven't compiled my kernel in the last 10 years, it was no need for that, but I'm glad I could do that if I want or need to. I have Wine installed on my computer but I can't remember the last time I used it for anything else than testing something.

    Now bye-bye, go trolling elsewhere.

  • @GHxx1 i agree linux used to suck regarding hardware support, software avaliability etc but it aint true no more. Sooner or later open source catch up with the pay software. I like openoffice better than ms office already, i like inkscape better than illustrator, video editing with kdenlive or openshot in linux beats everything for windows, lmms is catching up with fruityloops and gimp is biting photoshop in the ass, all for free

  • @GHxx1 And thats because those 99% have stuck with windows so far, but now, its mostly just because windows have a monopoly and come up with new stuff like "silverlight" or patented flash-code which is difficult to replicate in open source to keep theyre monopoly going. But who really downloads pirated versions of ms office these days anyway? Its BLOATWARE! Openoffice is even better and free open source! Thats just 1 example. I have no reason to use pirated patented software anymore.

  • @GHxx1 Here is a wake-up call... Hardware is not invented on trees. Think the opposite way, if you want to invent something... like a cellphone. You need to pay great royalties for existing OS to support it. Even if you get to run it, probably the company will still charge you millions. Or you can get Linux and make it run on it without much royalties than recompile the kernel for it.

  • saying that Photoshop > Gimp it's ok...

Photoshop is obviouslly way better than Gimp, as photoshop is a commercial software, made by a huge company, with tons of people working on it.

But you can't say Desktop Linux sux.

A linux distro can be 1000x better than windows or osx, it just depends on what you are going to do with it.

So stfu and dont go offtopic

  • "pretty much every medium to large sized company of any kind" is an exaggeration... back when I worked in a bank, in the IT dept, so I knew for sure which software is used, we had NO Photoshop anywhere, not any need for it.

  • For your information, I work in the IT since '87 and unlike you, I don't stick to banks and I have seen a LOT and I mean a LOT of copies at our clients.

  • But the numbers game is useless, is like saying Internet Explores is the best web browser because it has the most users, or like Brittney Spears is a good singer because she sold a lot of discs... the thing is you can get your job done with GIMP and this is enough.

  • That's just a really odd comparison. Music like art is strongly influenced by preference, Photoshop however is a tool which preference is based on functonality and flexibility. Secondly, I want to remind you that people are willing to pay $600 or $1000 Euro in Europe for Photoshop, they obviously have a DAMN good reason to buy it, so the $9 CD comparison is utterly crazy!

  • I still dont get how to use the healing brush?

  • gimp is free photoshop is not!

gimp is good for people who dont want to spend so much mney for a software (like me)

  • @RobyllPhotos I think the word is "like us" :)

  • @RobyllPhotos

    Its also for proffesionals

  • @chupy35 the only bad thing about gimp is that it cant handle 16bit colordephs :-(

thaths why most professionals choose PS

  • @RobyllPhotos gegl is for add 16 bit support :)

  • It's not good to have friends that are that manipulative. ;-)

  • you downloaded the wrong gimp you should have gimp 2.6

  • this video just so happens to be two years old. alot older than your mental capacity by the looks of it.

  • Um, this may sound stupid.. but I just downloaded gimp riiight now and i was trying to find the healing brush tool and it's no where to be found... Can someone tell me why this is happening? Am I supposed to download an external tool kit or something. Please let me know Via YT's messaging system. Thank you for everyone's time.

  • the heal tool is the one that looks like a cross-plaster.

should be in the tool window (:

  • You don't always have to 'drag' the mouse when using the heal brush, but good job.

  • You have the same color eyes as me, hazel.

  • either my speakers broke or you are an idiot

  • there is no sound.

  • I can't hear the sound on this vid.

  • knowone can ..

  • we are doomed!

  • thanks you so much very good video I will let my girl know I can see u know what your doing lol

  • thanx for the information on how to use it @mar shala

  • Push Ctrl + Mouse (left button) and then heal

  • why don't work my plaster?

  • Paint "dot" Net is also a good PS substitute

  • wow! it's "clean and clear and under control"! gonna try that now lolz

  • thanks for this!

  • I'm to afraid to download photoshop through a torrent haha.

So i use gimp besides a lot of people say its better.

  • I wouldn't say better, but just as good, and free, so I guess that does make it better, LOL

  • it is way better than photo shop if no how to use it becase there so manny things you can do more on gimp that photo

  • I have to say that Photoshop is a memory hog though. The only people that PS benefits really is professional artists and graphic designers (and the Mac is much better for graphic design anyway). Plus, what average person in their right mind would pay over 300 dollars for photo editing software. You could almost buy an XBox 360 for the price of PS

  • actually you can buy an xbox in england for £129

    and photoshop is over £600

  • "Use the Healing Tool, set the source area with the Ctrl key pressed and paint over the destination. "

  • i did it but i cant see the plus please help

  • Good vid, enjoyed watching and learning..Mick [uk]

  • How do you pick a small spot, and change it to the right color?

  • You have to press Ctrl + left click to pick the color of the skin, then click to where you want to correct

  • this wont work on my gimp

when i click on the picture to erase

    nothig ereases

  • i was drawing on my pic in microsoft paint and saved it by mistake any1 know how to fix it???

  • unfortunately it's to late... once saved and application closed you can't do anything about that.

  • Hey can I ask a question ?

Not to be mean or anything

but if gimp is so awesome

then why doesn't it have a

    warping tool ?

  • Are you asking for Gimp's Filters->Deform->IWarp?

  • I'm talking about the warp

    tool like in Photoshop ,

    and Paint shop.

  • I am not familiar with Photoshop or Painshop, but it seems like all I would need from the warp tool can be done with Curve Bend and/or IWarp

  • gimp has almost all the tools photoshop cs3 has.

the only differences is the location, name, and how to work the tool.

and well i got to say gimp does have the warp tool

  • @Khmergirl215 it does open filter-map-warp =) it depends on rather if you want to spend money something on, 200 bucks on photoshop or open source product which is the equivalent. A lot of people download pirated versions of photoshop plus there are various versions of photoshop. they are both good but why judge? spend money or not to spend? when you can use that 200 bucks on the rent bill haha.

  • Is the heal brush the same as the clone in a different version? It looks like it, but it's hard to tell...

  • lol u have saab at the back of the picture

  • whats up with moles? lol

    Great vid though thanks!

  • GIMP is very powerful program, very powerful.

OK photoshop is no: 1 (and expensive) but GIMP is right behind PS (and is FREE)

  • expensive ??

photoshop cs3 V8 is illigal and you can download the keygen everywere

BUT: Gimp is free (nice for an program wich is that good)

    i agree with you command

  • GIMP is awesome. I love using it. =DDD

  • Oh Sorry For Asking

  • thanks for this video!

    it's helped me alot.

i just got GIMP last night and i didn't know what the hell i was doing lmfao.

    but thanks!

  • Hey Ermm Could You Help Me Please ??

I Try To Use The Healing Tool But It Dont Work It Just Has A Sign By It [Dont Know What Its Called But Its Like A Circle With A Line Going Down It Diagonally] :S By It Could Any One Help Me ???? (:

  • Have you bothered to read the description of this video or the comments, where this is asked over and over? Or at least look at the status bar? When you select the tool and that cursor is shown the status bar says "Ctrl+Click to set a new heal source"

  • if ur such an expert why don't you say it in the tutorial???

you don't say anything... or write in the video...

ps. once u master the smudge tool you can just use that... it's much better and it makes things much more easy

  • how do i use it? :S

  • nice tut btw....... thnx heaps...:D

  • gimp is the way forward......

  • News flash, to anyone that is versed in how to use Gimp, there's nothing you can't do in Gimp that you can do in Photoshop. Quit being jealous of the fact that you paid hundreds when you could have paid nothing for the same result.

  • LMAO! So true.

  • I know!!

  • Noday cares if Photoshop is better than Gimp.

    So what?

    Be mature.. god.

  • is the picture u?

  • what tool did u use to get rid of freckles

  • The healing brush, as the title of this video says.

  • thank you

  • I don't understand you guys: if GIMP does not have a tool present in Photoshop you complain. If the tool is implemented, you complain again saying "rip off"...

Of course all the photo editing applications have to implement a number of features, is that a reason to label them "rip offs"?

  • I feel the same way. Gimp well, it may be exactly what the name implements, and "gimped" photoshop, but it's still an individual program. I'm a little disappointed that it doesn't have as much features as photoshop, but I think in time, it may even be better.

  • it's the best "rip off" that i've ever used!!!

    I <3 GIMP!

  • Photoshop itself is a ripoff of older programs. And all diesels today are a ripoff of Daimler-Benz idea... And I don't even want to start with Windows...

  • not everyone can afford Photoshop. so GIMP is our way, and anywhos who gives a shit whos better then the other they do the same shit some take a bit longer to do then others but that is what we have to do,

not everyone is a rich bitch!

  • yea im poor as hell.. :/

and gimp is a gooooood alternative; better than nothing

especiallt bc im not trying to be some professional, just need free basic tools!

  • its true, photoshop is indeed better, but Gimp is perfect for most peoples uses. Relax, honestly.

  • i'm sorry to burst your bubble,PhotoShopChannel. but, GIMP is better then photoshop! ooh! and also, it has the same functions. it's only cheaper becase it's free. you're just upset because you spent hundreds on that PHOTOSHOP CS3 of yours while you could have just downloaded GIMP. uhh.. and.. spell check! COMPANiES is spelled with O, i, and E! not CAMPANYS! god! it's simple preschool english.

  • the health tool isnt working!

i pressed down and it didnt do anything.??

  • how do I make a vid like this? I mean, how do I film the screen like that?

  • As I am a Linux user, I use either gtk-RecordMyDesktop or Istanbul.

There are similar tools for other operating systems (Windows, OS X), but being a Linux user I can't make a recommendation myself.

  • thanks! but do I have to buy that???? or can i install it off the internet for free?

  • The programs that I am using for Linux are Free and easy to install (sometime part of the operating system).

As I already said, I don't know about other systems, but I expect there are both free and paid solutions. I used once Wink, which is free of charge but will produce SWF (Flash) movies, not AVI.

  • is this any different form a "clone stamp" tool as some other programs call it

  • And GIMP also has a clone tool. It is different: while clone replace the destination area with the source, healing tool will average the values for a smooth result.

  • ok thanks ye i always notcied how it was hard to use the clone stamp tool because it was always uneven

  • Can someone help me I seem to have exited out of one of my screens and when i open my gimp only one window opens? any tips?

  • Go in the menu of a image window and use the "Dialogs" entry. Most likely you want "Layers" from there.

  • good video, but even gimp can't help that woman on the picture :]

  • I like that tool! xD

    god bless gimp, lol

  • U have to press ctrl first for the source

  • How do I start because when I try to edit my picture it says: "set a source image first", but it is a picture :S I don't understand

  • There is no dout about it you clean that poxy face up

  • Every time i try and use the 'heal tool' it keep's saying at the bottom 'set a source image first' Ahhh, what do i do?

  • Press the Ctrl key and select a "healthy" area, which you will use as source for the operation.

  • this the free version of gimp??

  • Yes, i just downloaded it like an hour ago, i already gimped myself (lol, now i know way they call it gimp), and i look pretty.

  • wow an hour ago i had it for a month and am still lost =(

  • Gimp is free by default, you don't have to pay for it. There may be some builds which bundle some add-ons and require money, but the free default is good enough.

  • cool

  • What is not quite clear to me is how this tool differs from the Clone tool.

  • yes, is similar.

while the clone tool *replaces* the destination area with a sample of the source, the clone will make an average.

  • I see. (You mean the healing tool makes an average, I think.) Trying it out, I can now see the difference. Clone seems to exactly copy the place you copy from, but Heal does something that is not just a complete average, but not a 100% copy either. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction here.

  • Very helpful ^^ :)

  • your pretty

  • its not working please explain it more! i click on heal, then on the picture i click ctrl. then i click on the blemish and nothing happens! so i click somehwere else and more come!? wtf?

  • select the heal tool. press Ctrl and keep it preesed. click on the picture (Ctrl is still pressed) to get a sample. release Ctrl. now click on the blemish.

it works identical with the clone tool.

  • lmao
