I'm not sure what you're talking about, in the last several posts I've said little about anyone being fuckers for not agreeing with me. My point metal grew up from punk, so its natural to have some punk elements, its still black metal, and thats what I call it. Just because of some punkiness means nothing.
Well if you listen to bands like Mayhem, and Darkthrone, they've basically play punk, but turned down the tempo, and play with diminished or minor patterns instead of major progessions. And a lot of these bands have included punk bands as their influences. In my opinion, I don't think its new, I think its more of a throw back to the bands that brought metal here.
If you listen to many black metal bands from today and even earlier you will not even hear anything similar to punk but more so classical music. Its all about the evolution of the sound. However it comes to a point where I think sometimes a sound goes so far that it loses its meaning like with what so called "punk" music is considered to be these days as opposed to the days of discharge.
The whole idea of double bass, and snare bass (which brought us the blast beat), were being used in punk before black metal/death metal/or thrash metal
Thats very true also the use of D-Beat drumming is present in a lot of black/death metal, however if you ask anyone to classify what they are listening to as either black metal or punk even the most novice of metalheads(true metal heads) with no musical theory back ground will be able to tell you.This is because the essence and feeling of the music is different. Rhythmic pattern, progressions and scales are meant to be used as tools for the expression of the art not the defining characteristic.
You say that as if I care what other people classify their music as, I know what I'm talking about. Punk music played a heavy role in influencing metal, especially black metal, both have veered in totally different directions since then, but they are but branches of the same tree. But whether you like it or not those same tools are used as defining charactistics, name 10 black metal bands that don't use those charectesistics, and do they even sound like what we call black metal?
How about Celtic Frost? Ever heard of Darkthrone? How about Mayhem? And honestly listen to some of that good old thrash metal, and the punk crossers like Metallica, megadeth, Napalm Death, Cryptic Slaughter, Vio-lence, Municipal Waste. Whatever you like, Punk and Metal are sisters, or brothers, or whatever the fuck you want to call them.

My point metal grew up from punk, so its natural to have some punk elements, its still black metal, and thats what I call it. Just because of some punkiness means nothing.

Well if you listen to bands like Mayhem, and Darkthrone, they've basically play punk, but turned down the tempo, and play with diminished or minor patterns instead of major progessions. And a lot of these bands have included punk bands as their influences. In my opinion, I don't think its new, I think its more of a throw back to the bands that brought metal here.

If you listen to many black metal bands from today and even earlier you will not even hear anything similar to punk but more so classical music. Its all about the evolution of the sound. However it comes to a point where I think sometimes a sound goes so far that it loses its meaning like with what so called "punk" music is considered to be these days as opposed to the days of discharge.

Thats very true also the use of D-Beat drumming is present in a lot of black/death metal, however if you ask anyone to classify what they are listening to as either black metal or punk even the most novice of metalheads(true metal heads) with no musical theory back ground will be able to tell you.This is because the essence and feeling of the music is different. Rhythmic pattern, progressions and scales are meant to be used as tools for the expression of the art not the defining characteristic.

Punk music played a heavy role in influencing metal, especially black metal, both have veered in totally different directions since then, but they are but branches of the same tree. But whether you like it or not those same tools are used as defining charactistics, name 10 black metal bands that don't use those charectesistics, and do they even sound like what we call black metal?
