  • Im a ford guy but no vette should ever lose to a cobra. Thats the entire point of paying $70-80k for one. They are supposed to be in a different league. the cobra owner better find more power next time. The Ford GT is more in line with the price point of the vette's. Dollar for dollar the cobra can make more more power though. A 03 cobra with $70k in it is going to be stupid fast.

  • @digiam42 How about a c5 coupe probly ceaper than a cobra and about 25 in it i dont now. However a ls1 should be good for around a 1000 horses maybe a bit more. Yes the cobra is out classed always so the corvette will still have better gas mileage, handle better, and for sure have more top speed. Now dont freakout if i had the money id own me a so called terminator but it would be the only FORD in my garage.

  • @IanJamesMullins nah i just didnt no if i wanted to spend the xtra money and go z06 or if i wanted to save money for mods and go z51 i went with the z51 cheaper insurance and the money i saved i ordered parts and should be at 540rwhp when its built plus i'm upgradeing the suspension and got some drag radials so i'm still street legal and im gunna sell my 05 sti to mod the vette even more

  • wouldnt it be amazing to see a mid-engined vette? better traction handling and breaking since weight is better divised among all 4 wheels instead of mostly the front wheels. no big drive shaft either might be lighter as well. if seen a guy on a youtube vid do a z06 stock 1/4 mile in the 10s. you have to be a beast shifter. with a mid engined i bet it would be low 10s maybe better

  • @XSoulscarz53X It might do better in the 1/4 but it is almost 50/50 in weight distribution...so in terms of better handling, i doubt it...

  • Come on guys there both fast as fuck im a chevy guy though those ls7's are very fast stock. But yes the mustang has always been slower than the camaro from the factyory and the cobras were made for the vettes and slower with 4 cams and blower.

Z06 although one of the baddest cars made for 70k, I wouldn't necessarily put it in that category. I would say maybe supercar or high end sports car.

  • its got the stock eaton, of course it lost. and i love the chevy guys that say, "ford needs a supercharger to keep up". well no shit, when a cobra runs up agains something with atleast 69 more cubes that seems like a little bit of a disadvantage for the cobra to not have a supercharger. not dissing the corvette, thats the all american sports car, but a cobra is too, and to take a mostly stock 281 with a shitty blower and put it up against that, i think it did pretty good.

  • Actually a C6 Z06 displaces 146 more cubic inches than a Cobra, not just 69. Usually a race against a C5 Z06 is pretty good. Need more HP to make up for the huge weight difference.

  • a cog belt... some say it puts too much strain on the supercharger... so it s a give take type of thing.

  • that's weird, seems like at that point it needs a beefed up blower, if the one that's there can't handle the speed required.

  • ya i am not too educated on that. but thats what i hear... dont know if whipple or KB have that issue it could just be the stock eaton. so far I havnt had any belt slip and I just have the normal belt... but then again i only have 450 rwhp getting in the 500 and 600 rwhp is probably where the slip comes in.

  • ah i see. yeah i'm thinking its the stock blower. i've seen the whipple and KB combra's and i can't hear the slip, but on ones that keep the stock blower i knotice it more.

  • Also, some KB's DO have belt slip, what happens is you are overspinning the blower or your belt is too old. It happens most often with stock eatons (particularily ported) because people try to over boost them, it loses efficiency after 14 psi, if you need more than that then go Whipple or Kenne Bell.

  • To fix belt slip you need an idler kit, or a larger lower pulley with a bigger upper (doesnt put as much strain on the snout), or both. A half inch shorter belt helps too. Lower crank pulley gives you more torque also so its win win. Cog belts are the last option and I wouldn't do that.

  • ah that makes sense, equally larger pulleys on both ends would have a larger contact patch between the belt and pulley, more friction, etc.

  • Corvette is and always will be the best car for the money, thats why I have one and not some heavy mustang

  • $85K, 505hp, 3100lb Z06s will always mop the floor agaunst a Cobra with a couple bolt-ons. I think the Cobra did pretty well with only $500 in mods, and it's 1/5 as much to buy with backseats.

  • Well this particular Z06 is a 3LZ which has an MSRP of $82K, plus tax and what not about $85K. 03 Cobra = $20K + pulley, intake, mufflers = $500-$700.

  • Don't get me wrong the Z06 is a better car, but the Cobra does very well for it is. I've seen STOCK C6 z06s beat heads/cam C5 Z06s, 500rwhp+ turbo Supras, 350Zs, etc. This Cobra for the level of modifications done to it did pretty well IMO, that's all I'm pointing out..

  • I agree with you completely. The Z06 is absolutely insane for a production car, it even goes around the race track faster than Ferrari F430's and Lamborghini Gallardo's. The Cobra held its own very well for what went into it.  Love the S/C whine, too
