  • The solo violinist near the end is a complete boss. The percussionist is his brother from another mother. This epic music comes from the greatest story ever told!

  • another comment, wth is John Travolta doing here?? lol he also appears on the Play! version of CT/CC video hahaha

  • i would love to see Mitsuda actually directing this at least once.

  • this made my day =)

  • You people the whole orchestra you are my heroes; such amazingly astounding talent

  • 2:30 epic trumpet? i dunno what brass instrument it was but it was epic.

  • that drum guy is fucking awesome

  • No Radical Dreamers? Sigh... its so hard finding a good orchestral version of that song... that damned beautiful song

  • Everything was superb, of course, but that Gale arrangement at the end was exceptional. God was it breathtaking, especially the violin solo and just the overall progressive feel that they gave it.

I don't know much about music, but I know that this whole medley was like a magical journey to me and I loved pretty much all of it.

  • *.*

  • 2:40

LOL. When I saw the john travolta drums guy again, I started laughing. He's always so into it lol

  • @Syouke It's not about getting to hear it as is in the CD exactly, it's about faithfulness to the original work.

  • Type this into the youtube search engine: "PLAY! Concert - Chrono Trigger / Chrono Cross." It preserves the mood of the original Chrono Trigger soundtrack and is better.

  • This is so cash..

  • I remember renting Final Fantasy III(VI) when I was 10 years old and thinking it wasn't anything special. When I got Chrono Trigger I thought it was the greatest game ever made. I beat it 5 times on SNES alone. Then I got it for DS and beat it again. It's the only game I beat more than 3 times which was Ocarina of Time.

  • Man. To think that a lot if not most of these musicians have no idea where all this music of the gods comes from.

  • this is great man. thanks for uploading these.

  • Crap!! this is awesome!!! I want to play again that saga, THE DADDY OF THE RPGs!!!

  • At 6:56, the theme is no longer 'Gale' but 'The Brink of Death'

    Awesome, however!

  • Its John Travolta on the Bongos

  • The trumpets were not done very well here... compared to the original, they don't match much.

  • ... Yasunori Mitsuda.... holy crap, too much epicness for my taste, goddamit! I... can... can't... *faints*

  • seriously how can you not see this as the score to a motion picture...one day hopefully in my lifetime I will witness it...

    one day.

  • somebody can tell were can I find the partiture for this ? especially for violin

  • 4:18 ...James May?

  • oh god really!!?? Chrono cross!? I NEED TICKETS to see this right now!!!

  • At 6:17, when playing 'Gale', you feel like using ForeverZero against Reggaeton!

  • That guy totally just kicked ass at that solo.

    7:15

  • amazing....

  • Nice selection of Chrono themes.

  • the guy at 2:58 , just beat lavos

  • am I the only one who can see the spells coming to life at 6:30?

  • enjoyable but I really wish they'd write arrangements for other songs. the arrangements of "scars of time" "prisoners of fate" and "frog's theme" are worn out.

I REALLY enjoyed the short arrangement of Kingdom Trial though.

  • 3:50 the bassline here is from to Mahler's resurrection symphony.

    interesting use of classical reference

  • my birthday is on september 17th HAHA

  • The best part of this is seeing the faces of old people thinking "wtf am I playing?"

  • wow think this is the best chrono trigger medley ever.

  • 4:53 made me teary.

  • @AlpharothKang me too, i struggled with my tears :)

  • @outsider313 i lost against my tears

  • It really confirms that this music is truly special when they're still orchestrating it 15 years after the fact. Does that really ever happen with anything else?

  • @steg111 Final Fantasy, Metal Gear, Zelda, Mario ^^

  • Flautist @1:23: Oh yeah oh yeah oh yeah oh yeah

  • Pena que o video ficou meio atrasado... Mas ficou muito bom!! Curti demais!!

  • 2 people are... oh... hell.

    Fuck 2 people!

  • There should be a warning that comes with this song that reads "Warning: This will blow your f*cking mind".

  • That percussionist is impressive.

  • They are without doubt talented people, but it irks me when interpretations are soo different from the original melody. I dont like how they changed Time's Scar

  • @DreamerTrain Then don't listen to a medley orchestra, just go listen the cd.

  • I just wish they were more faithfull to the original ideas. They should sound more like "Mitsuda", instead of "Mahler" or "John Williams", who knows what I mean? I feel the same on Legend of Zelda Suite. It appears more like a Williams song than a Koji Kondo. Just like if Linkiana Jones or Link Skuwalker.

It sounds me more like a lift than an execution of the composer. They should preserve the mood of each theme. Imagine they playing the black omen and the opening credits as they really are!!

  • @getulioprates I'm sorry but I have to disagree. I've commented this on a couple of other videos, but these games have had orchestral medlies done a thousand times before. It's about time someone does something actually original after 16/11 years or so. For someone who actually didn't play the games till recently, this inspired me just as much despite the liberties taken(in fact, perhaps more so because of that).

  • @getulioprates Don't be a dumb bitch, you can't replicate digital sounds exactly...tones, cues...stuff made digitally in the '90s can't equate perfectly, picky fag.

  • @battlerags ok, dude, you can keep spending your time listening this stuff, I don't spend no one more second.

If if makes you feel good, so listen.

  • @getulioprates I think it's lousy that you're criticizing such a nice piece of music when you probably know jack about symphony.

Louie CK once said people are consumers and expect to be fed what they want, or else they shit on it.

  • @getulioprates That is one of the most ignorant statements I've ever heard. I don't see how this differs from Mitsuda's original idea, if anything it's only been fleshed out to better encompass his original idea. In an article about the song Mitsuda himself sad he was moved by the music and that only a handful of people in the world could arrange music like that. Making that comparison is about as silly as saying "I wish I could just have wal-mart steak instead of a $70 5-star steak."

  • @getulioprates Also, I'm not allowed to post links, but if you would like to read the article I'm refering to you can message me and I'll send you the link, or simply google "yasunori mitsuda interview" and read the one post on squareenixmusic posted in 2009. It's the third or fourth one down.

  • @getulioprates I totally agree.

  • @getulioprates It's your opinion that you wanted this to sound more like the original, but you shouldn't say that they need to sound like the original. That defeats the whole idea of how orchestra works. Many conductors has conducted the same exact classical songs, but they all sound different. It's not whether these conductors could orchestrate these songs the best or faithfully, but it's how they interpret them and output them through orchestration, that makes orchestra unique.

  • Grand. ^^

  • Prisoners of Fate might just be the must beautiful song in the whole world.

  • I don't have amazon! where can i but this ; _ ; HMV?

  • Did anyone notice the first violin not hitting the right tone at 6:40 ? However, this is not in the actual audio I downloaded from iTunes. They either must have corrected this (I'd wonder how) or they have taken another (live) recording, not shown here.

Although I liked Secret of Mana more as far as gameplay is concerned, the music of CT/CC just feels more enjoyable and is probable the best of the whole album. I wonder, what piece was the most difficult to play for them, though.

  • @hannes0082

They have this whole Symphonic Fantasies album on iTunes? I have looked all over iTunes but have had no luck in finding it :/

  • @hannes0082 Yes I have noticed this for a while. In fact the first violin had a few very noticeable incorrect intonations throughout... check Part 2/2 0:24 there is a stray note (was it the open string A?)

  • I want these two parts of Chrono Trigger for my Wedding or funerals *_*

  • Dude, the bongo player looks like Juandissimo from fairy oddparents sooo close.

  • i think it was a good playing. but camera work was suck.

  • Lol at the bongo playing indian warlord among all the suited gentleman

  • I am obsessed with The Edge of Death *-*

  • you have to wonder if there was some resistance among the orchestra to the idea of doing a concert/cd for an old video game. you know, before they saw the sheet music or heard it played in any format.

  • @JacobPaige if the music is beautiful and well done there shouldn't have been any issues. this would be a blast to play in an orchestra

  • @Poskusin which is why I specified the time period before they saw the sheet music or heard it in any form.

  • @JacobPaige Right, but thats very shallow thinking. You're assuming everyone thiks of video game music as a lesser form, when in reality, most music in video games is written by very competent and sometimes famous composers. I would jump at the chance to play something by Yasunori Mitsuda in such a large orchestra.

  • @Poskusin and your assuming that they would know that, which is by no means guaranteed. if they were not themselves gamers then it is thoroughly possible that they would have preconceptions about the credibility (for lack of a better word) of music originating from a video game.

  • F*cking EPIC OMGWTFBBQZ0R

  • 1:29 I THOUGHT I RECOGNIZED THAT GUY

  • times Scar part is the best specially 2:11 is best!!!

  • I wonder if some of the people who play will have played crhono trigger once?

  • 1:55 the guy kinda looks like luke skywalker

  • I've been to Smyphonic Legends this year,it was great,although I wish I would've been at Fantasies

  • This is the most Epic (Epoch) music ever!

  • @MultiLYT Rony Barrak. A great Darbouka Player and an excelent soloist!

  • Amazing job!! Thank you for posting this on youtube!

  • @MultiLYT I think it's Rony Barrak

  • 1 asshole missed the like button

  • ..... Is that the SAME drummer that performed the CT/CC medley with Play! or do they all just like to dress colorfully and slick their hair back? XD

  • ich wünschte man könnte die noten für dieses arrangement bekommen (oder noch besser: KLAVIERnoten für dieses arrangement)

  • i suppose i can dig the eastern flare. a bit much, but we'll see what happens in part 2.

  • I want to see this live...

  • But it's so good....must...resist....

Ah, fuck it, I'm skipping to frog's theme XD

  • @UltraNerdsOfTheWorld I'm skipping to Peaceful Days Xp

  • @UltraNerdsOfTheWorld Agreed, this medley is pretty poor with crappy Chrono Cross music dominating most of the score.

  • Omg Spetember 17th??? That's my birthday!! *HAVE TO GET IT*

  • This is the ultimate study music, so nostalgic too, this really gets me pumped.

  • That guy on the drum is such a beast.

  • @slimedude99 Haha, beast.

  • @ArturikGDL

No, it's "Gale" alright. Check the Chrono Cross OST track listing for the official names (e.g. at wikipedia).

  • @ArturikGDL

If you actually had a (non-digital) copy of the OST we wouldn't be having this discussion right now. You probably have a downloaded copy which had "fan-translated" file names. Because if you hadn't noticed, hurricane has a similar meaning to gale.

Official tracknames can be found at sites like vgmdb.net. The fact that entering those keywords into a youtube search (or google for that matter) yields some hits, can hardly be considered as proof. We have to consider the source.

  • @KajunW I have a downloaded version as well and the track is called "Gale" in the filename. However, gale != hurricane.

  • @KajunW

Well, if you want to be picky; pretty sure the original Magus theme is called "Warlock battle".

  • @KajunW Boy, you guys care about the stupidest stuff, don't you?

  • @KajunW I bought the OST in Japan, put it in my computer and on iTunes it's written Hurricane.

  • @KajunW

Guile is a character in Chrono Cross

  • @ArturikGDL It's Gale... #20 Disc 2 I own a hard copy of the OST and am looking at it as I type this.

  • @ArturikGDL

Is it that "Gale" was actually written "Guile" on the CD booklet?

  • JUST 1 FUCKER DON'T LIKE THIS VIDEO!!!

  • I LOVE scars of time!!! And Frog's theme!!! AND EVERYTHING ELSE TOO!!!!!

I LOVE IT ALL!!!!!!! STRAIGHT TO FAVORITES!!!!!!!

  • A new Chrono game would kick ass.

  • I've never played Chrono Cross, but I know most of the songs from the OST just because I happened to trip over a midi of Time Scar four years ago. I'm so happy to hear the music arranged for an entire symphony like this, so well done and beautifully performed! 6:19 and on was really interesting, like WHOLYSHIZNITWOW. a boss battle theme?

  • is this an american orchestra?

  • @Dasummerbreez German, or at least it was held in Germany.

  • The CC Music is so amazing. I got nerd chills listening to the Prisoners of Fate-> Scars of Time part. So amazing.

  • awe...no schala's theme? what about Life ~ Faraway Promise? i guess the second would be hard to pull off...

  • 2:58

  • CC music > CT music

  • @kitsunestrife :P Frogs Theme owns everything

  • @kitsunestrife amen to that.

  • radical dreamers!!!! chrono cross!!

  • Shame on the only person who didnt like this video !!!

    haha

  • The one with the drum looks like he was a character from the Square game :)

  • goosebumps

  • The guy with the drum in his lap and the red scarf around his neck is awesome.

  • @kaiseryuu dude it's a tie. They don't let you wear stuff like scarves.

  • they should have stuck to music from chrono trigger... the CC music doesnt' go with any of the music from chrono trigger. instead of telling the CT story in music form like they pulled off very nicely in the SoM medley, they just threw together a bunch of arrangements. Its all very nice but by mixing the CC material and the CT material and then favoring the CC stuff it feels wrong. also no brink of time, corridors, etc? and they basicaly shit on to far away times. could be better B+

  • It's funny how most of the orchestra looks indifferent at the musical masterpiece they play.

Great medley of musi from one of, if not the greatest RPG.

  • I bet most of the people in this symphony don't even realize the EPOCHness of what they're playing.

  • Ugh god I can't believe they didn't do Corridors of Time, it's only the best track in all of the two games

  • Why cant we see this in america? Im going to start planning my trips to Europe around the days these guys cover SNES rpg music

  • @waltersty

So you are coming this September and next too ? =)

The list this time is "Mario-, Zelda-, Metroid-, F-Zero- and Donkey Kong"

  • Somebody give that drummer his own record deal/tv show.

  • Comment removed

  • Is that the same John Travolta guy playing drums who was in that PLAY! video?

  • Comment removed

  • @gamerlayne

    YES!

  • Can't wait for the CD - maybe it's coming just in time for Symphonic Legends in September, that'd be awesome. *_*

  • @dreamer86 symphonic fantasies cd release date septembre 23 th

  • Im amazed, I played these RPGS on an emulator around three years old. thanks to my uncle. and after accidentally removing directories and deleting it. I was listening to the great music had to offer. And its seemed to have an impact on my life to this date... And i guess reaching level 99 with ayla at age four isint too bad is it?

  • Don't get me wrong. John Travolta, the bongo drummer, is in every one of these and he's really good at what he does, but does he have to bastardize every song?

  • @mightymax1983 yep....

  • This was Epoch alright!!! But It would have been evn epicer if they included Corridors of time and Undersea palace tho!

  • Awesome! My nerd senses are tingling! =P

  • Very nice.

  • The facial expressions on the indian(?) drummer are priceless! XD

  • "Gale" wasn't one of my fave CC songs, but always kinda had a soft spot for it. Adding Rony Barrak's doumbek gave me the perfect reason to love it completely now. That doumbek is what was missing from the song. With a 9/8 rhythm like that, ya just gotta have doumbek! XD

  • The Scar's time song is played too much by these symphony groups. They need to try more good cross songs.

  • @gyromancy2 To be fair, Scars of Time is an excellent song, but I can understand about it getting old. It is a bit like One Winged Angel in that regard.

  • this made me want to kick more ass on chrono trigger!!!! XD

  • need more chrono cross song chrono trigger song is gud to but cross has better ost. want to see dream of a shore near another world, radical dreamers

  • nice orchestra but i didnt like the drums :/

  • @chinessgirl drums didnt like you!

  • nice arrangment

  • Music of the HEAVENS!

  • Moved me to tears :)

  • 2:05 the way he turns the page was epic

  • @otherjulian

    ahahaha indeed, so funny :D

  • @otherjulian

    ROFL!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @otherjulian lol! Totally.

  • It's game. The first part is the opening theme of Chrono Cross.

  • yes i would like to know, who the drummer is!! :O

  • Rony Barrak

  • @Naleka2008 thank you =))))

  • really a pros performance!!

  • Did the producer of this video have a hard-on for the bongo player or something. Every video he is in the camera is on him 80 percent of the time like he is the only one playing.

  • hey jhon travolta playing the bong deserves his shot!!!!

  • OMG I love at 8:15 but I don't remember in the OST what theme is.

  • That's from the CC's battle theme.

  • I adore this, but there are some places where it sounded so off key...but maybe it's just a variation of the piece? Idk, amazing musicians and music regardless :)

  • wat is chrono?

  • i dont understand your question...?
