  • I keep coming back to this, The Avett brothers killed it. They just fucking destroyed it for NPR!

  • ugh....that is tough to listen to.

  • @kjjohng

ugh..... you are tough not to hunt down and kick the shit out of

  • pure poetry......so lovely......x

  • Its not gay if you have sex with an Avett Brother.

  • I agree.. Voices are in pitch though..

  • They should invest in an electronic tuner or two!

  • @alisterhrae27

Can't you just appreciate it for what it is and not make douche bag comments?

  • @DownOnwax Douche Bag comment? Of course I appreciate it for what it is, what is a Douche Bag Comment? I respect performers that take time to tune their instuments, shit, I spend half my life doing that, out of respect to the audience!

  • It is neat to watch how down with shine had evolved.

  • I'm a straight guy... and I would.

  • Comment removed

  • a book behind Seth during Bella Donna: Girls Guide To Rocking! lol

  • I am a straight guy, but I can safely say I'm in love with both of the Avett brothers.

  • I wish there was a Love button.

  • They are incredible live. One of my very favorite shows ever. Without a doubt

  • Also, seriously, wow. They sound so good live.

  • Wait, what? Why could an Asian never play folk music?

Asian cultures have probably been playing folk music longing than white men have... obviously not THIS folk music, with, y'know, banjos and stuff. But the idea is the same.

  • if you were to ask me, i would say this asian kicks ass at playing folk music.. probably better than any of you could..

  • Upon seeing the close up of the bassist's hands I wondered if Robin Williams was in this band.

  • @chrisglie It looks like he's doing o.k to me....

  • i wish i worked in that office!

  • Gorgeous harmonies. Absolutely gorgeous.

  • They are aliens, gods, my favorite

  • Man they are talented. To be able to harmonize that well with how out of tune that guitar and banjo are (about 1/4 step out of tune) really takes talent.

  • seth avett makes sweet love to my ears

  • Did you swallow an amp? Good question.

  • I am a breathing time machine

  • So... damn... good.

  • holy crap....amazing...

  • @yeowlsing You just can't appreciate good music! Go listen to your mainstream crap and put x factor on or something

  • great! no other words necessary!

  • Damn

  • @effedupcamel There definitely are. Though I'd still say the Avett Bros. are probably my personal favorite. I'm not much of a Mumford fan, but I appreciate them.

  • Talented Much? It's freaking impossible to make your voice stand out that way in the middle of a bunch of instruments without a mic.

    They are AWESOME.

  • Did you swallow an amplifier?

  • 45 people have small dicks

  • @PaulMercedes I'm sure a good number of the upvotes do as well.

  • For anyone arguing about Mumford vs. Avett, the reason that Mumford and Sons cover The Avett Bro's so much is because, as Marcus Mumford has said on so many occasions, they are one of their favorite bands and musical influences. If the bands have that much of a connection, where are these arguments even coming from?!

  • Nice video. Growing to like the Avett brothers. Nice ensemble in this set: bass, banjo, guit, and cello. The brothers voices compliment each other nicely; both convey strength and passion. Good energy on Laundry Room. Nice band.

  • Man am I glad I heard this. This has definitely made my life better!

  • Is there really a war between Mumford & Sons and The Avett Brothers going on???

Just going to throw this out there: They're BOTH my favorite bands. I can't even fathom picking one over the other. I even have a playlist called "Mumford Brothers" on my iPod so I can avoid choosing over the two of them when driving. But people like what they like, I suppose. And I guess that includes arguing over bands instead of just simply enjoying the beautiful music in this video...

  • @OHaiCupcake There's not. Just some fans gettin uppity about them.

  • Please search up the band "America". There you will find American folk roots!

  • @UpoundBUTTS...I can't fathom how someone can call themselves fan of any kind of music and make such myopic statements.

  • Anyone know anything about the white patch on Scott's jeans? It is a re-occuring item in the Tiny Desk Concerts on NPR. My guess is that it's a marker for video taping.

  • @mfattey Perhaps they are hiding brand names or logos. I don't know about npr specifically but such things are sometimes censored in varying ways.

  • @mfattey

If you look closely, you can see that it is a piece of tape holding a wire against his leg. Possibly a microphone used to capture the sound output of his banjo.

  • @mfattey Could just be a "Guest" tag for the office building.

  • good job God. you done good.

  • Saying that an Asian can't play folk music, is the equivalent of saying that a white guy can't study martial arts.

Now pull your head out of your ass and enjoy some excellent musicians without bickering like little girls. :-)

  • @serp82 you wrecked a nice video

  • @serp82 Who said asians cant play folk?

  • calm down camera, holy fuck

  • Seth can take of his shirt at warp speed...ladies.

  • I'm not hating on Asians but this guy first off doesn't fit at all....you can never hear him play either...He's ridiculous

  • @LeArchives dude... Joe Kwon is vital to their live shows.... He can definitely be heard.

  • Theres an Asian guy playing folk music...

  • Something in the DNA of these 2 brothers makes them harmonize like this. Awesome stuff!!

  • they need to put out the song Down WIth a Shine... would love to have it in a cd!

  • Mumford and Sons is really terrible singer-songwriter crap performed with folk instruments. Bad lyrics and poor musicianship hiding behind the growing popularity of "indie folk." That's it.

  • @UpoundBUTTS i disregard this comment because i assume you're a flaming hipster.

  • There can be no better punishment for you calling me a hipster than allowing you to keep listening to Mumford and Sons. Enjoy that shit. The deepest wounds really are self inflicted. I was just trying to help.

So...I guess I'm gonna go cut my wrists and jerk off. Peace

  • @UpoundBUTTS yessssssss!haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!you win

  • @UpoundBUTTS I like Mumford, but after hearing these guys...I don't listen to them all that much. Great live band, but their songwriting really pales in comparison to the Avett Brothers.

  • @ClayManSteve Music isn't a competition. You might listen to Avett Brothers when you're in one particular mood and Mumford and Sons in another mood. You could listen to only one band all the time, but you're going to be missing out on a lot if you do.

  • @UpoundBUTTS lololololol hipster much?

  • What's Steve Aoki doing there on the right?

  • Who cares which band is better? I am so happy both exist! They make my life a little better for sure! Both of them...

  • sounds like john lajoie singing

  • Is it me or is that guitar just slightly out of tune with the rest of the instruments :/

  • something tells me that mumford and sons were popular waaaayyy after the avett brothers... just sayin

  • For real? .. Mumford & Sons ?.. lol.. The Avetts are mumford and Son on steroids bro. Just sayin.

  • lotta middiclorians floatin around here ;)

  • @olivejuice999 Well get the fuckin fly swatter, the world's bat shit crazy enough as it is.

  • 14:09

  • im sure my ears just ejaculated

  • Saw these guys in concert at the House of Blues inMyrtle Beach, Sc. For the short time they were there, the bad things in life seemed to go away....Music is so strong!

  • Blue Ribbon Healers loving this sh!t!

  • A male version of the indigo girls?

  • @bigbusa1 Simply, no.

  • Needs more cowbell, but otherwise great.

  • i remember watching this video when it had about 300 views

  • @ackmarzmenn whatever gayhole.... hipster

  • Fucking Fantastic.

  • @WeShallNeverStop summed it up perfectly.

  • great band, but at 5:22, talk about making love to the camera, lol. For the love of God, pan out.

  • they sound off-key

  • @logotrix i love your sarcasm

  • That first harmony. I die.

  • @AlSupertramp51 Same here :o) They're amazing

  • That fucking asian guy! I saw them last night at White River State Park and kept on yelling that. haha They were simply amazing.

  • This version of Laundry Room is soooooooooooo f*&king good I wish he would sing it like this on the album version

  • @tsullivansf I love The avett brothers Laundry room Bonaroo version..have you seen it!!!?

  • @tsullivansf Exactly what I was thinking!

  • @tsullivansf Banjo also needs to be use in the album version.

  • @tsullivansf If you like that version, then you should check out the Bonaroo version from 2010!

  • @tsullivansf have you heard the CMA awards version just out? someone linked it to me from the Vickie Honeycutt foundation website (an Avetts' promoted foundation that helps families of cancer victims). i like it as much as this version...first time i have listened to any Avetts song and thought "oh yeah, they are maturing and will age" and it will be just fine! :-)

  • @revpgesq i think i messed up twice...once that it was recent and second,i meant CMT, not CMA...fail....sorry about that.

  • @DownOnwax It actually can be argued to be a fair comparison. Mumford's music comes more from an English folk tradition and heavily philosophical indie-pop. Avett's draw from Old Time country and roots in American folk and intense Punk rock. Each is a development of folk music with a newer progressive genre that influences the lyrics and intensity of their musical styles. One is the English product, the other the American product.

  • @johnniedig

To me Mumford seems like any other generic indie band except they took their schtick to the next level and capitalized on the growing american roots movement by dressing up like a carnival act and playing their indie rock songs on down-home instruments. I don't see anything authentically folk about their music. The harmonies are boring even by pop standards. Their lyrics are wannabe Shakespeare junk that you can find in any intro to creative writing class at any junior college.

  • @socalsugar Come on, man. Can't we just all coexist without dissing each others music? I like both Avett and Mumford, and I hate it when Avett fans dis Mumford.

  • @wkrsten Agreed. I would kill for the chance to go to a concert with the Avetts, Mumford, and perhaps Dawes as an opening act. That would rule.

  • @johnniedig Brilliantly put.

  • @johnniedig There are also better bands than both imo.

  • @ stiek73 & @ukwildcatfan40 I never knew that. I think they're better than mumfords anyway, im really sick of them. Avett brothers don't get as much recognition though, which is kinda good, but what's that about

  • Stop comparing the Avett Brothers to Mumford and Sons!

This is American Music! Mumford just copied it from US!!!

  • love the banjo

  • i don't normally like this type of acoustic music but, this is great

  • jbbutterfield;my youngest son alex bought me album of theirs,a complete tour de force!

  • A bit like mumford?

  • @ziggy2316 but the Avett Brothers have been around about 7 years longer.

  • @ziggy2316 you've got that turned around....mumford's a bit like Avett. Mumford and Sons have said that before recording Sigh No More, they listened to the Avett album Four Thieves Gone for inspiration

  • @ziggy2316 you've got that turned around....mumford's a bit like Avett. Mumford and Sons have said that before recording Sigh No More, they listened to the Avett album Four Thieves Gone for inspiration

  • just put this on once a day and all yer troubles go away

  • At 3:36 I think Seth jizzed in his pants.

  • i don't mind tax dollars going to this. not one bit.

  • "Tonight i burned the lyrics, because ever courus was your name."

  • i listen to this so much... i should just make this my homepage

  • @bc7435 i come here so much... i should get the url tatooed on my arm

  • "Teach me how to use the love that people say you make"...damn thats good.

  • flipping love it!

  • SIMPLY AMAZING! May there music live on forever.

  • The guy in the front looks like Luis Scola's twin brother

  • Comment removed

  • still lovin these guys, new Cd is gonna make a cpl great xmass gifts

  • They harmonize so perfectly

  • I'll tell you one thing, these boys need to use all that money y'all are spending on their records and shows to get a more reliable guitar tuner...or hire a new fellow that they pay to tune their instruments and change those strings that they seem to be breaking so often...I reckon I'd be checking my e-mail too, which is not to say I haven't enjoyed some of their tunes and artwork over time.

  • @mountainsofmoss well, you're right. but sometimes, well, you just don't see to it in the moment. I actually think the banjo player was attempting to signal that the guitar was out too but, hey, they do all right, don't they?

  • I have been obsessed with the Avett brothers since i was 12 but I still have days where i will listen to only their music for hours on end. The Avett Brothers are the real thing; inspiring, fun, exciting, and timeless. They make me proud to be from North Carolina. I have never been so in love with one band for so long and doubt I ever will again.

  • at 5:25 that's you fuk your sister-uncle-cousin! (cmon thats funny and no i didnt dislike this video) they got some good tune for sure.

  • Does anyone else feel like this is real country? I mean compared to modern country bands like randy rogers, taylor swift, or other mainstream country bands.

  • @teejay89656 feels more like love making than country music to me. They are in their own sound.

  • @teejay89656 I think this is like original Country music, now reserved as folk. It sounds more Appalachian than Cowboy from Texas.

  • @teejay89656 Be careful labeling mainstream country bands as "country." If I had to put these guys into one genre of music, I would say folk.

  • I like that the dude at the computer is dicking around with emails while they play.

  • @PCHSAMBA He looking for question from fans, for the QA after the music..:)

  • So rich, they might have to kick in the door. My obit will read, "She died with headphones on."

  • "Did you swallow an amplifier?" hahahaha

  • Going to see them in less than a month for the first time. SO PUMPED! I love them so much.

  • @marialynn91 you will not be disappointed. There is no comparison to seeing them live. It is a transcendent experience. Get ready for lift off!

  • Is it just me or is Scott Avett dead sexy?

  • Just love "Down with the Shine" , even performed it with some old friends yesterday. Honest folk/ country music never went out of style.

  • I'm just sorry there's not a 'Love' button to click.

  • @TraceNspace76 well the "favorite" button has a heart on it...

  • @FungusyHam Yes it does. Clicked that age ago :)

  • They're so good he can change his shirt with out putting his guitar down.

  • i just wanna listen to this all day in the woods while growin some weed

  • Hands down the best video NPR has uploaded.

  • And dislike under the video??? 39 pople who listened to justin bieber when they get up,lady gaga for lunch and Kesha for dinner... Fuck them!

  • Amazing, old music is back! Please, you must try to be more famous in Slovakia

  • Could Seth's harmonies be any better? Seth's pleading and gorgeous 'please' in Laundry Door is astounding. I love the 'did you swallow an amplifier?' question. And let's not forget that Joe's cello is pure, pure joy and genius - it could have been a fiddle, but cello is just in perfect harmony with their voices. Honey drips from these boys' mouths.

  • Harmonies like warm butter.

  • So freaking amazing

  • lol who's the asian! he's been at the concerts that i've attended but he's like a guest or something....?

  • @HeffernanProductions .............no he's like a part of the band and his name is joe kwon.

  • The 39 people that "Disliked" this have NO SOULS

  • Laundry Room 0:27 , Down With the Shine 7:23 , Bella Donna 12:20

  • one m0:00re time.

  • great composition. Search "cicada rhythm" on youtube, click the mouse song . . .You will also be pleasantly surprised.

  • I love the way he never manages to get that banjo in tune despite his attempts. I fucking love it.....keep it out of tune it sounds fucking brilliant!!!! Production kills music.

  • wow.... im floored.

  • I'm so happy to see bands like this striving. They're (in my opinion) the foklies of the day. Country went so pop, it's nice to see that people are still singing meaningful, average joe music.

  • Yo, I'm that guy on the left! The bassist from the Avett Brothers. Check out my channel and the song I wrote.

  • @socalsugar You bring up a good point, but, you should have to look at it from their perspective. In a world of tasteless bland music, m&s lyrics and music is simply taking a sound and bringing it back, and making it appeal to the younger crowd. As for the attire, they are indie kids, so they should be able to wear the same things their idols wear. They want to make music from that time, so therefore, they have to live that time, and they do it pretty damn well.

  • The Avett Brothers are beyond amazing. They make you appreciate little things and home-grown music. Everyone should try them out. I was skeptical at first, but then someone let me borrow their albums, and I have been hooked sense. Their energy and honesty make their music what it is. Thanks guys.

  • I watched this video to see the tiny desk that the title of this video talks about and I was disappointed to see no tiny desks

  • Best song they have ever made, I've been a fan for years.
