Petrucci is far superior, technically, than David Gilmour yet he himself would admit that he could only dream of capturing even partially the tonality, flow, feeling and soul of Gilmour. Which isn't to say Petrucci or even Guthrie don't have soul or 'feeling' it just seems as though they express less using more notes than Gilmour could with fewer. Clapton and BB King are another example of this concept.

@qdqshred I think it really comes down to your taste in music. I love both Gilmour and Govan, but the music they play is very different from eachother. Music is all opinion and it's not a contest to see who is more technically proficient, so just listen to the music you prefer. P.S. Sometimes it takes a thousand notes to make a single sound
