Even if nobody uses them, the government only prints a certain amount of money into circulation. Meaning that less dollar bills are being printed. Since these coins are just gathering dust in vaults, there not in circulation, and inflation goes down.
As already mentioned, stopping the printing of paper money--and the gradual pulling of paper money from circulation-- is the only way people are going to start using these coins on a regular basis. This isn't too hard to figure out. I don't want to diss ol' George, but he's on the quarter too!

The only way people will start using dollar coins is if they stop printing $1 bills. People typically do not change their habits until they have to.

I am wondering what's taking Congress so long to fix this and stop blaming the other parties or people and accept responsability for their mistakes?
