aloha, mahalo for the inspiration....do you by chance know how similar sax fingering is to that of a european recorder instrument????...mahalo and happy tunes, forest
hey sounds great.....can that instrument be configured to have a finger pattern similar to that of a recorder????......does one need to know several finger patterns for each different key one might play in with other musicians, or is there some kind of knob for different keys, using the same finger pattern????...aloha and mahalo, forest
can this be played with earphones that only you can hear it, or put volume down, so it can be practised at evening in apartments, without disturbing neigbours?
i would really want to play saxophone alto or tenor (dont know diference), but i would like to learn something before going practise realone with other people.
Hi i need some help about my ewi embrochure and my air
I play a tenor sax whit an ottolink 8* and 2.5 reeds and my air is ok in the sax but when i play the ewi I feel so tired because my air doesn't finish and i need to breath but my air doesn't finish
anyone moving to an instrument with a smaller air requirement has the same problem. the short answer is you just have to get used to it and take more time to plan where you'll breathe
Hey man thats soo cool Im 15 from california and im a sophomore in highschool and my band teacher was telling me about woodwind specialists and how all pro sax players play sax clarinet and flute. Well I was inspired by my teachers words so i got a clarinet and a flute i already play sax and basson. But i was just wondering like how you got to where you are now. I know this has nothing to do with the EWI, which is super super cool, but music is my passion its wat i want to do
It's easier but different. Easier in that you don't need the lip that you need for Clarinet. There are no reeds to deal with no mouthpiece setup, just batteries. The octave shifts take time to master but it's easier than playing over the break on clarinet. The fingering is it's own or a sax style fingering that is easier than clarinet. It plays in all keys. There is a key transpose button that allows you to set it in any key. It defaults to C.
Secondly: This guy is an excellent player, but compare him to J Kashiwa's carismatic playing -- why is Akai not sponsering J Kashiwa???
Thirdly: This demonstration appears to be using external sounds??? Is this true I wonder. OK the EWI is a midi controller, but I would like to know if/when he is using an external sound source.
Native Instruments (who make Kontakt - one of the soft samplers used in the vid) are having a bit of a sale at the moment. Check out their site as Kontakt is almost half price!
native-instruments . com
PS. I don't work for them, I'm thinking of getting it to use with my 4000s. Mmmm...nice!
Question: I buy the EWI and plug it on the computer, is that it or i need extra stuff like sound modules or amplifiers? Does it write on Finale? Thanks
In the 4000's there's a built in synth, so all you really have to do is plug it into an amplifier or headphones. It emits a MIDI signal, so it might work with Finale. I don't exactly know Finale well..
I know now how some of that awesome music on films is created... Question? Is it necessary to have a working knowledge of the saxophone in order to easily grasp the EWI? I have a brass musical background, but I would love to own one of this. I have other AKAI products. I think I have a problem, lol. But, if you could answer that question it would be greatly appreciated
Great Steve! I'm very interested to tpt mute sound. Please, someone can give me information about it? Thank you Stefano

Awsome, do you need to buy anything to make the sounds if you play it directly through an amp? Also, what should I get for it to do basic things?

BRO!
newsflash, stubert is wrong, you need to to let air escape from the corners of your mouth, that's how it's designed!

Oooh its so cool! How long does it take for you to learn to play it like that!

Can i amp it in my pc or do i need to buy one to hear it??
Thanks
tintin20001967 3 years ago
you can use your PC or headphones directly from the EWI.
It's best to have a small amp though. You can even use those little speakers that are made for iPods. I use these when traveling.

1. vocal samples
2. Jeff is sponsored.
3. I think he says he is using external sounds. maybe not. It's pretty obvious he is using samples and not an analog synth like the built in.

The EWI4000s also has a Brass fingering mode on it.
There are quite a few trumpet players playing the EWI.
