  • @kylemcswagger Yes they do. Brackish water is the ideal environment if you want them to live a natural lifespan. Otherwise they will die prematurely. They live in brackish water in their natural habitat

  • Do they HAVE to be in brackish water? I read so many things. /:

  • He's all like "oh heyll na! Wanna go fucka? FISTY CUFFS!

  • @InMyRealm Something like that

  • Haha I do that with my crab too , except I put his food down the straw so it lands by him, or else it seems he can't find his food in the gravel

  • @f1shbone Thanks! I do have all the stuff you said & gave them more land access a couple of days ago. How did you get your vacuum to work? Mine has like this round end on it & I cant figure it out, it's the same as yours I think or close to it. Any tips? Thanks! (:

  • @MsCavaliers2 The whole idea behind the vacuum working is the tank sitting much higher than your bucket. What kind of vacuum do you have? What is the brand?

  • I see other people are asking if it's brackish water, do you have a full view of your tank? I believe you, i just want to have a less boring tank, get other fish that won't bother the crabs and the crabs won't bother them, and i just got a gravel vaccum and it doesnt work with brackish water! It's just a basic gravel vac i got at petsmart and i need more water :| how big is your tank and how high is your water level? Much appreciated! I like your tank setup too! (:

  • @MsCavaliers2 This is the only shot of the tank that I have. It is a 5.5 gallon although I recommend a minimum 10 gallon tank for one or two crabs. Since there are not many fish that live in brackish water, you will most likely have to make it exclusively a crab tank. Don't forget to read online some more info on their requirements. You MUST give them access above water, to a land area of some sort, otherwise over time they drown.

  • well of coarse hes gonna be mean.how would you like someone poking you with a straw and messing with your home.

  • I'm thinking she is nesting. unless, she acts like that every day ?

  • Cute

  • i got 2 of em for my turtle tank

  • hay if i put a rock in my fish tank that gous out of the water can i put a1 of thes crabs in there??

  • @SkylerXPro not unless you have brackish water in there

  • @f1shbone

    oh kk thanks XP

  • I feed those shit heads to my puffers.

  • @Amemet1 I'm sure others feed puffers to bigger fish :)

  • @f1shbone I'd sure as hell hope not. Puffer are poisonous.

  • @f1shbone not unless you want 2 dead fish.... puffers are poisenous and not easy to get down the gullet.

  • @Amemet1 lmao shit heads yea they do seem bitchy

  • @Amemet1 hahahahahaha

  • Female carrys eggs; Pregnant Pseudosesearma will nibble

  • Is you tank semi-aqatic? these crabs need access to air

  • @tinytomlinson yes, it is.

  • @tinytomlinson air... kinda killed mine...

they need alot of fuckin water

  • ur crab setup is good but ur crab is stressed because of the light their also called cave crabs remember dat

  • @darkstarwarp Lights were on a short timer and they primarily came on at feeding time.

  • do u feed urs fish i do

  • how to you make your crab do that My red claw crabs won't come out of hiding spots, only when eating and when its dark out please answer

  • what do i do? do i take it out? you'd think it'd be healthy for him to eat it, but i can't bear the thought of that. please reply as SOON as u can! ppl said t would be healthy to have a partner, so why did he eat her! was her skin softer after she molted or what? was it might fault? was it my fault that he wouldn't eat? i feel responsible. please reply as soon as u can!

  • I sent you a private message

  • (continued VV) and i think my tad bit smaller one (my new one) was a female cause she had littler claws and they were more red, and my dark male (he has some pretty huge claws) the next day after i changed their tank i looked in their just now and saw the shell of my female. that morning i thought it was actually her, but it was her shell. i found her and she was half eaten. :( what happened? my male never did eat well, even if i dropped the food in front of his face. my female ate a lot! help!!

  • do they need to in water to eat or can they eat on the ground?

  • They feed above water all the time.

  • I have two red claws in my tank. These guys love plants and they eat all of them up. I dont mind it, but at the same time i want a planted tank as well. Any suggestions on plants that they might leave alone? Thanks.

  • Check my aquarium in the video response section

  • Plastic plants are your only chance. Otherwise they tear up any and all plants.

  • try lilly pads they might work but if they dont dont blame me blame my friend hope this helps

  • Marsh Fiddlers are my. favorite crab. I've had red claws before and i didn't like them as much. The male fiddlers make these funny little gestures with their claws and mine is basically tame. He doesn't flee when I stick my hand in anymore. The females are more skittish though.

  • thanks, you help me verry mutch, how can i see if it is a female crab or a male crab?

  • usually by the size of the claws. if they are larger, it's a male. If smaller, a female. There is a LOT of info on the internet about how to care for them, I strongly recommend reading some. For example, they need brackish water, not freshwater. The tank also needs to be cycled.

  • thanks, but i live in sweden and dont know if i can get that sort of food, but i can give them red mosquito larvae. is that good???

  • You can give them any kind of food that is designed for hermit crabs. They have the same diet.

  • @f1shbone I am so devastated. remember me? the one u really helped get my tank all right? well, I had my one crab, cena, doing perfectly fine and very healthy, but i was eager and heard people say that they do a lot better with a partner. So I asked the pet store lady (she was the owner so i was guessing she was educated on this stuff, plus, she seemed like she knew what she was talking about) but a month and a half later i changed the tank yesterday *almost ran out, i will continu in dif comnt^

  • i have two redclaw crabs in my tank. i give them alge. but i dont know if they eat mutch?

  • They are omnivorous. Don't give them just algae. Give them Hikari Crab Cuisine.

  • No wonder your crab is mean. You tease him

too much. You can't tease animals or humans.

    They will turn on you.

    methodistgirl

  • I was just having fun with her for the camera. She was by far the most territorial crab I've ever had

  • What size aquarium is yours in? I am beginning to set up a half and half aquarium (land and water) brakish, for red clawed crabs. How big do they get? How many can go in a 29gal aquarium? It's supposed to be half land and half water ,right?

  • Their body gets to about 1-1.5 inches across.

It's recommended at least 10 gallons to 2 crabs at most, with plenty of hiding places so they don't get aggressive and territorial. In a 29g, if you divide it, I would get 3 females and no more. The tank in the video is a 10 gallon tank and I also have a 75 gallon paludarium (half sand, half water)

  • I thought about it, but I'm not going to get them. ^^

  • if i get a red claw crab will it kill my big ass blue gourami?

  • The two live in different environments. The crab needs brackish water and the gourami won't survive in it. So you won't have a problem since you can't have both in the same tank ;)

  • My insnt in brackish and he is fine but i have a fiddler check out my vid

  • ALL fiddler and red claw crabs are brackish water crabs, no exception. They will survive in freshwater but their lifespan will be severely shortened. They also need access to land or somewhere above water, otherwise they will slowly drown if you keep them submerged. Please do the research on these critters

  • your so lucky to have a crab, What do they eat? What do they need? o.o tell me plz

  • i feed my fiddler carb normal worms check out my vid

  • Lol i did so much research before i got some of these and the pet shop just like tore it up and pissed on it cus they said they dontr need salt land or nothing just like a guppy

yet they have crabs the size of your fist about 2 years old?

  • The crabs can PUT UP with such conditions for a while, but not indefinitely. Don't judge their environment by what you see at shops because a)those are temporary set-ups and b)they don't stay at shops for long, they get sold. You know what they say, the truth is in the pudding. You can choose to follow the info online or ignore it completely. And you'll see for yourself how well and long your crabs will live

  • Yeah thanks but what i'm trying to say they were on show not for sale and have been there for a good year in freshwater no land so they had been there the WHOLE TIME

  • Well, if their natural environment has anything to say, it will show you they are mostly spending their time on land, in brackish water.

  • Yes:D

  • whats brackish water?and could you pleeeease msg me and tell me some of the basics about them because im thinking about getting two :)

  • freshwater and salterwater mixed

  • What temperature should the aquarium be at? if it just has crabs in it?

  • You can find all this info online if you do a simple search. The water should be heated to around 74-78*F. One of those Whisper 50w heaters should work just fine

  • my crab dosent have brachish water and he is 2 years old he perches on my plants

  • Mine are almost 3 years now and still alive. They do need brackish water.

  • i just gave it away, those crabs are like a knife :)

  • i got my self a crab yesterday and he fights with my pleco which is about 12cm long and the crab is only 4cm.

i'm thinking of giving him back to the shop because my pleco is going to die in there!

  • No offense but you should have done the research beforehand. Red claws are brackish not freshwater like plecos and they also need access to land above water to breathe and occasionally dry off. Return your crab or setup a good tank for it.

  • hi

i actually want to buy myself a crab

but i hardly know anything about them so is it true that they need a land part in the tank? becouse the water in my tank is full of oxygen for them so do they still need it?

and what do they eat? and in wich tempratur do they live?

are they aggressiv against other fish?

    thx=)

  • I suggest that you do a lot of research online. In short:

-they need access to land otherwise they drown

    -they need brackishwater, not freshwater

  • how high salinity?

and *if you dont mind me asking im getting one tomaro* how many grains do you put in daily?

  • You do NOT put grains daily because salt does NOT evaporate and you would end up raising the salinity untill you kill the crab. The proven healthy amount of salt is exactly two perfectly leveled tablespoons of marine salt per gallon. MARINE salt, not aquarium salt. I recommend Instant Ocean salt, one of the best brands out there. PM me for more details.

  • Oh snap!

Yes, they are pretty pricey here, probably because we're far from the coasts?

  • The red claw crab has plenty of space to get above water, just because it's not in the video does not mean it is not there :)

  • They spend most of their time in water

  • Is the water brackish or just freshwater?

  • lolz when u put ur finger next to her, she's like hey come in here and fight me!

  • wow you bought urs for 4 dollars??? i bought mine for 2.50 each. (mines dont fight and can stick finger in water and they run away)

  • quick question , i bought a red claw crab but it seems to stay out of the water, why is that and also what kinda wwater fresh or salt plz reply to my comment page

  • Beacuse they need air even though they live in water. And they need fresh water

  • how much was that crab and where did you get it from

  • It was around 4 dollars and I bought it from one of the local fish stores. I have seen PetSmart and PetCo carry them sometimes as well.

  • i have a RCC! i have had 4 but over the years 3 have died and the 1 remaining is a male about medium sized! hes reaslly cute!

  • who agrees with me that red clawed crabs are soooo cute/??

  • I do. I find red claws crab to be cooler looking than fiddler crabs, but fiddlers seem to be more active and "sociable".

  • i agree

  • do they spend more time out of water or in water?

  • give it a shrimp lol see wat happens

  • Not much. Live shrimp are generally too fast for the crab to catch :)

  • hi, i have an fresh water aquarium with half land and half water with 3 fire newts and 3 red clawed crabs. my crabs have been fine although its fresh water.

  • You wanna bet they won't live more than a few months, a year at most? Red clawed crabs actually live to 2-4 years. There's no way around it. They need brackish water. Alas, your newts would die in brackish and I'm affraid they might not be the best tankmates for crabs.

  • Wow. Defensive lil' thing! Glad Barniby isn't that aggressive! He's my Halloween crab. Oh and the other comments. I eat crab but could never kill one. They're too cute!

  • can the crabs live in a tank filled to the top?

  • The answer is absolutely not. They NEED access to air and they NEED brackishwater, NOT freshwater. If you don't provide access to air, they slowly drown over time. Also, without access to brackish, it weakens them and they will only live for about 4 to 6 months.

  • Do ALL aquarium crabs need bracish water to survive?

  • The short answer is yes. Fiddlers and red claw crabs are the most popular and they both need brackishwater for their long term well being. There are crabs out there that don't need brackish and would be fine with just a dish of saltwater, but they are next to impossible to find in stores.

  • You are taking great care of your crab! Most videos are just of their crabs in freshwater without any land space thinking that they have a good setup.

  • woah

  • What's a palludarium f1shbone?

  • Google knows too ;)

A paludarium is an aquarium that is set-up with a dry land area as well as water area.

  • im happy to see your not a crab eater =)

i hate crab eaters... i own a pet lobster

  • i agree, i hate people who eat crabs. i have 2 red clawed crabs

  • i own 2 land hermit crabs =)

  • damn, vicious little thing.

i love red claws, and hermits, but havent had any fiddler crabs yet

i assume fiddlers are harder to care for than both the others

  • yea...its hard cuz they need to be in brackish waters...and need some mangrove setup to live happy

  • i think this crab is male...

  • Pretty sure it's a female. I've compared claws, hers are small and not as red. Also, the bottom flap is round-shaped, not the triangle of a male.

  • I think its just protecting itself, btw arent these crabs suppose to be in half land/water environments?

  • Nah, she knows it's feeding time and she's being ... crabby. They're scavengers so as soon as something moves in the tank, she gets curious.

They're mainly supposed to have access above water, which I've provided and they're also brackishwater, not freshwater. Besides this tank, I have a 75 gallon palludarium made up of a colony of 8 fiddler crabs.
