  • Is this in Clearwater, FL?

  • holy shit he crushed that start

  • nice entry to boat! NOT

  • 0:30 thats one way to get in...

  • Insane Start. Was Brad's boat check for an engine? LoL! He took off upwind I wish I has half of his boat speed. Guess I won't quit my day job with guys this good sailing lasers

  • wow how tall are u couse i weigh 135 and i use radial and i still have trouble beating above 12 knots

  • I dont know... im about 120 pounds (55 kg.), and I race a laser. I participate in regattas often, and I admit its a lot harder to control a full blown laser with my weight, but I can manage. Im part of a 7-man fleet, and we all sail normal lasers. Ive never tried a radial though... maybe it might be easier. In winds of more than 15 knots, I have to really tighten the sail... if not I capsize.

In any case... I guess its up to you..

  • this guy must be about 100kg!! goodie put him in place!

  • nope. he's probably 80 kg at the most

  • Brad told me he weighs 180 to 185 pounds.

  • this in in clearwater fl

  • no dude ur even a little light for the 4.7 u should be in a difrent boat until ur at least ii15 then u can sail the 4.7

  • If you were replying to me..

I am 15. I came from Flying Juniours and I handled those okays except spinnaker, but I only had 2 weeks to learn it.

  • Goodison is much distance before this toxic sailor

  • Hmm I am about 100lbs with clothes on. Think I can handle a Radial?

  • Depends.

If you're a strong and good sailor, you can handle it. With stronger winds you'd need to hike fully out all the time, and you need good boat control to handle the thing. You need to keep the boat absolutely flat at all times.

But you won't have much chance winning races, except if the others are also so light or just bad.

I'd go for the boat that other people are sailing races with, then you can join them. At least for me sailing regetta's, though not serious ones, is the most fun.

  • Well, just get the 4.7 rig then if you gain more weight you can switch to the radial as the same mast is used in both. For the full rig you need a mast extension.

  • no the 4.7 and radial and full rig are all different lower mast sections. the radial is straighter and longer than the 4.7 but shorter still than the full rig sail :)

I'm 60kg and in a radial and can just hang on but at only 165cm i dont have much leverage to keep a radial flat in 20knots+ full rig no chance :(

  • Well.. I have no choice. That's what I have to use. (Not my boats)

    I'm not racing, still learning.

Besides I sail in a reservoir so the winds are fairly weak. Never this strong.

  • If you are ever in the bay area and want top sail in a good breeze let me know, it's great :-)

  • no you cant

  • No you can't even if you where mostly muscle you couldn't try 4.7 then gain weight over next winter for Radial.

  • i am gettin a laser radial before next season starts!! cant wait!! never sailed a laser before.

  • he was truckin upwind! so fast

  • brad funk es un jo puta xD

  • awesome pic at 5:52

  • pause at 5:52 he does an awesome jump
