@KonopKg This gear was built to last, I wonder if it will ever die on me! BTW, this is all 70's stuff. The reel-to-reel actually came out in 1979, but it still has that definite seventies look with the all-aluminium panels and round alu knobs. That together with the blue digital read-outs is what I like to call Retro-futurism :)
@0raffie0 hey thats a really nice setup I wish I could have one I'd use it for mixdown in my home studio hehe it sounds awesome analogue for me still doesn't beat digital when it comes to warmth anyway cheers :-)
I also own an rt-909, I simply LOVE using this unit when I am Down Mixing my recordings.
This is one of the few units that virtually duplicates an actual recorded signal so acurately to the point where you know this puts a digital recording of 24bit/48khz to shame.
I can explain more, but ill leave it at that..... A wonderful machine!!
@StLouisEarl Smart choice!! Maxell UDXL tape sounded the best on mine too! I then switched to Ampex 456 because the UDXL had become hard to find. I had to tweak the bias and record eq a bit and it performed well with linear frequency response to 0VU. But the UDXL was (with the original bias and eq) more dynamic, with cleaner high frequency resolutiion (lower distortion) just a perfect copy of the source!
I bought my 909 back in 1979 along with my SX1980. The funny thing is that I paid more for the 909 than the 1980 when I bought them new, yet today the 1980 is selling for up to 3 grand on ebay!!!
That reel to reel is mesmerizing...

I owned an RT 909, you are 100% correct! It's a great machine and using high bias tape will duplicate the source with no loss.
