  • The easiest way i found was to lay a q-tip along side to hold spring out a little. This just help line the spring up with the hole. Have the bolt already in the gun then work the spring on the spring guide toward the hole on the butt end. Hope this helps

  • I have a video if yall still need help on taking apart the gun. Visits my channel

  • looking to see if anyone knows what the Winchester 190 .22 LR would be worth? seen one collector on the web saying it may be worth $300 any thoughts?

  • @Neal4reel i've seen them around here for 150-200 used and as much as 250.

  • @Neal4reel I bought two from a local pawn shop for $135 each.

  • I did finally find a owner's manual on the 190 online... Yeah...

    swishercs . com backslash Winchester

  • Yep, I came looking how to reassemble the spring back into the gun like most the comments here. The video is ok, but the comments and suggestions were worth more than the video.

  • @Anynameoriginal you got what you paid for

  • @johnis4jesus who says " you got what you paid for"

Guess I deserved that, if it helps, I did give you a thumbs up and provided a link to others on an owner's manual link that I found helpful.

  • @Anynameoriginal i'll see if i can borrow my friends rifle again and get a good video of how to disassemble and reassemble the rifle for everyone that's been requesting it. :-)

  • @Anynameoriginal LOL. So am I. I tried for an hour last night to put that damn spring back in. There has got to be a secret.

  • if you take a 1/2 deep well socket and a long extension in 1/4 inch or 3/8 you can take the stock off making it a walk in a park to reassemble!! figured this out after 30mins if raising hell then looking for answers on here and online

  • hey you should make a video on how to take it apart thanks

  • @BASSANDCARGUY219 the rifle belongs to a friend and i didnt get a chance to disassemble it before i gave it back to him. if i get a chance to borrow it again though i'll get a good video of it.

  • I got my grandfathers 40+ year old Model 190 about a half a year ago, brought it to the range and it jammed every other shot. Took the trigger assembly apart and came to find out that it was all caked in black gun grease and residue. Brought out the trustee Rem Oil and a stiff wired brush and completely cleaned the inside to shiny condition, ran patches with hoppes 9 through the barrel and now the gun shoots like its brand new. Haven't had a problem since in the 500+ rounds ran through it.

  • great rifles, pain in ass to reassemble. lol.

  • hey man whats up i just bought a model 190 and i cant get the fucking spring back in it let me no if u can help me out

  • @Ddresner13 lol its an sob . they way i did it was to push the spring a little at a time back into the hole and hold it with a flat tipped screw driver through one of the coils until it was short enough to work the bolt in. dont forget the charging handle.

  • hay man i really need your help! i have the same gun thats in your hands but when i dropped the bottom out the spring for the bolt assailable came out and i can not get it back in any ideas

  • @joshuwatts its a pain in the butt. the way i did it was to put the end of the spring in the hole in the receiver first... then put the guide rod in the other end and worked the slack of the spring up in the receiver using a screw driver to hold it in place as needed.... then worked the bolt behind the guide rod making sure not to forget the charging handle. i love the gun, but cant stand to shoot it as i know i'll have to clean it sooner or later and hate disassembly as it's such a pain

  • @johnis4jesus I hate taking this gun apart also- I found it easy to put in the bolt first- then feed the spring into the hole and then push the guide rod down agains the bolt and line it up when its held in- dont try pulling that damn bolt back without the trigger assembly- I was a dummy and made that mistake and launched the spting and rod out. Its fun gun- very under rated and under the radar- but its a very good competitor for the Marlin 60

  • If you watch the Swamp People shoot gators on the History Channel, I swear that's the 22 they're using!!! Mine is almost 40 years old, and will go to my Grandson when he's old enough. I've KILLED many an empty beer can at an arms throw!!

  • Do you know any or could u post a video on how to disassemble it?

  • @emmanuelsurf it was a borrowed rifle, i dont have it anymore or i would make a video for you and some other people as well. sorry.

  • ok i figured out how to lock the slide! pull back and push in!!

  • hay man i really need your help! i have the same gun thats in your hands but how do i drop the bottom out of it? i have no experience with cleaning a tube fed gun and i would be ok if it had a bolt lock.. i am experienced and i shoot 10/22 .243 .50 muzzleloader and so on but this 1 has me stumped!!!

  • @MRTCrawford howdy. sorry for the late reply. i must have missed the comment. remove the inner magazine tube first. then there is a pin just above the trigger guard, drive it out and the trigger/fire control assembly will drop right out.

  • Hey John, nice video! I just picked up an old 290 and it's my first gun. Although it's my first gun, I'm pretty handy so I tore it down and cleaned it from top to bottom. The bolt was a little sticky, it's a little better now. First time shooting it I had about 3 misfires out of about 40rds, and one that fired with a loud pop and left smoke venting out of the receiver. I assume it fired without the bolt fully engaged? it was ok after, but my ears were ringing for a while.

  • @141bpm thank you. hope you enjoy your first gun. make sure the firing pin is not sticking in its channel. that will cause misfires. i'd say that the pop was a slight out of battery firing. if you were firing fast when it happened, and the firing pin channel isnt clean i would suspect the firing pin was stuck in the forward position and fired when the bolt slammed forward. clean and lubed is important for the functioning of any good 22

God bless and shoot safe :-)

  • i second the trying to get a video to disassemble it. i would like to see how its done before i do it to mine, and screw it up....

  • @TopDogRam next time i see my friend i'll see if he'll let me borrow it again. i dread having to put that spring back in though lol

  • @johnis4jesus your right John i had to order a new metal guide for mine it flew across my shop after hitting me in the face they say drill a 1/16 hole for a papper clip to hold the spring i hope it works this time b/c it a fine rifle

  • @KPIZZLE318 i havent heard of that mod. sounds like it would work though. i'll have to give it a try if i ever pick up another of these rifles. thanks.

  • @johnis4jesus what mod? are talking about a modification or model?

  • @bluzfan92 "they say drill a 1/16 hole for a paper clip to hold the spring i hope it works this time b/c it a fine rifle" a few comments down KPIZZLE318 speaks of the modification

  • Can you post a video on how to disassemble and reassemble the trigger assembly on the model 190? That would be a big help. I want to see it done before attempting it. Thanks.

  • @therealcrankyjohn sorry, the rifle belongs to a friend and i already have returned it to him. i'll see if i can borrow it from him again sometime to get some take down and detail strip videos since i've had so many requests.

  • @johnis4jesus I removed the pin that locks the trigger housing in place, the housing would not budge. Is there a trick to it? Thanks.

  • @therealcrankyjohn it should come right out. i wouldnt be afraid to really pull on it. it it hasnt been taken down and is very dirty it could be hard. make sure your inner magazine tube is removed. pull from the trigger guard and the rear will come out first. make sure the hammer is cocked.

  • @johnis4jesus Thanks, I will give it a shot, is it difficult to remove the spring and the bolt as well? Did you have problems reassembling?

  • @therealcrankyjohn it's not hard removing the bolt and spring, but it is a pain to get back in. if the spring is straight it's not too hard, but if the spring is kinked, it wont compress easily and will drive a preacher to cuss i used a screw driver to help hold it in place while reassembling

  • can you show how to clean and take out the resever and the more (complex) parts?

  • @MrStemkilla i gave the rifle back to my friend yesterday. if i get a chance to borrow it again i will see what i can do

  • At least the Blue Trail center (Lyman Range) goes out to 300 yards.

  • @Okwaho57 that is a good thing. it helps me not to take for granted i can go shooting anytime i want when i meet someone that has such a long drive to the range. God bless you. ~john

  • If I only want to shoot 50' I can shoot here in the Bronx or Yonkers. If I want to shoot 50 yards I have to drive 45 min. to Peekskill, an hour to Danbury, CT or 90 minutes to Wallingford, CT (old Lyman range).

  • @Okwaho57 wow, i feel for you man. i know im thankful to have a place to shoot close by.

  • I use them for right after shooting at the range. Have a long drive home so a good yank gets a lot of powder fouling out. I just like the idea of cleaning from the breach with an autoloader.

  • @Okwaho57 oh definitely cleaning from the breach is better if you're able. i actually need to get some more cleaning supplies. the rod im using in the video is the only one i have, it's a sectional and i've actually lost one of the sections so i couldnt clean a longer barrel. my range is on the family farm so to speak (we dont farm), it's about 10 miles from my house. how far do you have to go to shoot?

  • How do you like the Bore Snake? I like it for lever guns like a very old 1930s vintage Model 94 that was my uncle's.

  • @Okwaho57 i like them okay, i've used them for 22's and for shotgun. i think it is good for a quick swipe, but i dont think i would rely on it soley for heavy cleaning.

  • @johnis4jesus Everyone is having a hard time putting the bolt spring back in, here is a simple trick, take the but stock off and it will go back in and be compressed straight when you gently put the butt stock back on.

  • @05301919 i'll have to give that a try. thanks

  • @05301919 How exactly do you take the butt off? It didn't look that easy (ok, I can't figure out how).

  • @reysaint1 i've seen those otis kits. pretty cool, would be great for keeping in the car. henry rifle is good for keeping in the car too lol
