The difference between my son and others is that he is very aware as I have drilled in many things that will ensure that he understands that some things are dangerous and how to deal with those situations.

It annoys me when parents let their children roam the streets. They should be interacting with them, teaching through play, taking an interest...

@thepvporg but you must remember that we all were, are, or will be teens anyway, and I'm being honest, I was careless too as a teen, I listened to personal stereo while crossing the road, and there were a few times I was near-missed by the driver. I've heard more unfortunate cases where people are blaming the victim for not looking out, but the driver, who was supposed to get his share of the blame for going too fast, gets away with it.

@thepvporg In the video for example, the accident clearly occured in a residential area. There's a very low speed limit of 30 mph (I suppose) and I think the driver was too fast (way over 30). Had the driver go a little slower, the boy would have at most some wounds (he'll live) and I'll blame only him. But here both parties share the blame. Try not look at things from only one perspective and you'll get a clearer picture of it.

You don't see it long enough to form any kind of accurate judgement but having said that it doesn't appear to be going particularly fast at all. If i wanted to be really pedantic AND I DO!!! I'd say it travels approx 10 metres in 2 seconds in this vid meaning a speed of somewhere around 11 MPH. Of course it's braking but to get from a speed of way over 30 to 11 in half a second seems unlikely. Maybe i've gone too far on this :P
