I hate stereotyping, but I'm guilty of it. As a Canadian, I tend to think of southerners as being fundamentally religious. Thanks for making this video. Well put and very true!
Love thy Neighbor like you love yourself, but in the crusades the sword was freely used against many people who just had a different religion or belief. Again the keyword here is to believe whatever you like and totally accept others who think differently,I strongly believe that "Intolerance" is our greatest enemy, yes It takes a Free Spirit to be tolerant(accept to basic injustice like crime, rape, murder)greets Vic.
Its a very interesting thing to think about, lets hope none of the current first world country's governments choose to become outwardly religious extremists.
The 1st thing that popped into my head in the early moments of this vid was a song by Lobo (Kent Lavoie): "These are the things that bother me / Not a lot of things across some see / I don't even have a master plan / I guess that I am just A Simple Man."
Be careful about this, Diesel. I always say when you see someone trying to reason with a fool, you are looking at two fools. Don't get caught in that trap, my friend.
Dominionism describes, in several distinct ways, a tendency among some conservative politically-active Christians to seek influence or control over secular civil government through political action — aiming either at a nation governed by Christians or a nation governed by a conservative Christian understanding of biblical law.
Isnt all religion required to give the people something to be, do and imagine.
Sure intelligent study should be ahead of all this but not everyone has a high enough IQ.
The world is connected in ways we may not ever be able to describe. Religion aids the magic. I see where u r coming from though.... WYD08 is soon and the naive youth of earth will congregate but. Hillsong has combined rocknroll and religion making the church almost indestructable.
Whoah! First you put a ridiculous video up full of invective towards religious people and then you limit the comment section to only the comments you approve! Talk about limiting free speech. Hypocrite much?
intracoast... I have a right to control SPAM on my Channel and will continue to do so. Speak, intracoast... show what ignorance you possess for all to see.
So far in my comments I have espoused tolerance and freedom of speech. Why does this strike you as ignorant? Where you go astray is that you don't seem to understand that tolerance and freedom of speech are both two way streets. Religious people are free to speak, vote and form political alliances like you are. Just because you disagree with their world view does not give you permission to act in an intolerant manner which your long video is a demonstration of.
intracoast... Seems to me, attacking me personally over my opinions and observations shows your lack of tolerance and love of freedom. Now... disprove my video's statements that seem to bother you so much. Can you... or will you just make comments about why you think you're a better person than I?
What is there to disprove? You basically state for 9 plus minutes that religious people are dolts who believe in fairy tales who want to take over the country...and then you vaguely allude to history and science and state that they agree with you! Since you make no point other then to demean these straw men who happen to be your neighbors, I merely pointed out that making such vast generalizations puts you in company with some very small minded people. I never said I was better than anyone.
1. Now you agree with those that say America used to be a Christian nation? Only Christians deprived Native Americans of their homelands?
2. Obviously this is true. But you omit that the both Abolishionest movement and the Civil Rights movement was started and led by religious people.
3. True. But referring to the Bible as "stories" is a slight that lacks cultural sensitivity and disregards the part religion plays in our culture, legal and education systems and the many religious in science.
Claims were made throughout US history that the US is a ''Christian country.'' A slight to the Native Americans. America established no religion nor deprived people of the free exercise of religion. To say Christians deprived Native Americans of their homelands isn't claiming non-Christians didn't do the same. I am for Abolition & Civil Rights. I acknowledge any good that occurred from religious belief & any undeniable evils attributed to it as well through history. I have to go now.
4. That's what people of faith do. They believe. We believe in science which can be contradictory and at times misguided. Both religious and scientific minded people are wrestling with the big issues. Where did we come from? Where are we going? Why are we here at all? This should be applauded not mocked. The great scientists look to religion. The great religious respect science. How many religious people you know who would turn down advanced medical treatment for their child?
My last Response and then I'm off to do other things.
You say science can be misguided and contradictory. Fine. Religion can be misguided and contradictory. To say that it's a slight to think or talk that way requires proof that the religious text is true and accurate. You have freedom to believe as you see fit, I have the same freedom. I have to go now. Peace and happiness to you. 8-)
5. Which brings me back to tolerance...Scientists deserve respect. Religious people deserve respect. There are many things in this world and beyond that we have absolutely no concept of. In light of all we don't know humility demands that we keep an open mind. If religious people have at times fallen short of this, that is too bad, but don't emulate them. They call science "lies", you call their Bible "stories." Be better than them.
It's no secret that "We are a Christian Nation," is a very common phrase. They are proud in their own right that they feel this nation was formed by Christians. Are you living under a rock, that you have never heard this before?
To me it is all a question of tolerance. Videos like this, with their many cheap shots and vague references to history and science seem to me to demonstrate the very lowest form of intolerance. If you exchanged the word "Christian" in this video for "put your favorite ethnic slur here" you would look about as enlightened as Bull Connor. This country was founded on freedom and tolerance neither of which you seem to embrace in this video.
Intracoast. You obviously are more slanted in your thinking than I. Why? Firstly, I have ''tolerance.'' I've made no call here for the destruction of religious thought. Secondly, I've spoke about real situations that you have no desire of accepting. Thirdly, explain why desiring religion to not control America is a sign of a lack of freedom and tolerance. I presume you would have your beliefs control America and you are threatened by my wish for real freedom. Condolences to your mind.
"The New Dark Age: American Religion" This is your idea of tolerance? You accuse religious people of wanting to take over America. Who is this religious person who said that? Who is the group who espouses this position? Let me answer for you. No one said or espoused this position. This is a straw man.
intracoast... do you see the ''?'' that's part of the title of this video? My video exercises freedom of speech. Seems to me that you may believe through democracy and the ballot box that Christians can take over America? Do you see my video as a threat to this desire? Televised Evangelists speak of taking the country back ''in the Name of Jesus.'' I used to watch these guys when I desired to be a Christian.
DieselBodine: When you state that a group of people want to take over the country, those are fighting words that conger up hatred for that group. The US is a free country and no one wants it taken over. You need to back up such a statement. Telling me you recall seeing something on TV when you were a kid doesn't cut it. And why do you keep guessing what I think? I am for tolerance for everyone regardless of faith or lack there of.
intracoast... I don't hate anyone. Whatever things that are being conjured up in your mind are of your own making. If you think no one wants to take over the country, then I guess you have no knowledge of the realities of politics, conservatism, liberalism or any other ideology that wishes through the ballot box to come into power. This communication between us is going no where. To what end are you continuing to add Comments on my video?
DB, I never said you hated anyone. Saying Christians wanted to take over the country might cause others to hate Christians. Part of our argument is being made worse by your not reading my comments correctly. As to having elections...I am all for that, and the two parties in our country do try to "take over" but they never do and are forced to work together. I think we both like democracy, right? As to my comments, I am using Youtube just like you. Please stop acting like you own the joint.
Individual Christians are the only ones really -- and Jewish people, those who trust God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob -- are the only ones that are qualified to have the reign, because hopefully, they will be governed by God and submit to Him.
-- Pat Robertson, The 700 Club television program, January 11, 1985, defending his stance that only Christians and Jews are fit to hold public office
I could say the same thing about any ethnic group, or a immigrant group, and everyone would see I was fear mongering and rightly call me a bigot. How is your argument different from this?
intracoast... you can't decide that by replacing words I've used with other words, that you can try to make me look like a racist, a bigot or any other undesirable type of person. You have yet to disprove any of my statements from my video. My video stands on its own, but if you wish to contradict me then make your case and stop wasting time with your accusations and inappropriate redirections.
intracoast, "christians" are 1 of the most intolerant factions of all religions, they condem gay's, say this country was founded as a xtian nation, ect.,ect., I'm sure you know the rest, to me the "lowest" form of intolerance seems to always come from "xtians," I guess you must believe that the Earth is only 6000 years old huh? Oops, how intolerant of me...
Hi Dave. Notice how intracoast made my video out to be intolerant toward Christians and my observations obviously are lies to him. It's apparent his concept of freedom and tolerance is going to be dictated from his beliefs and far less inclusive than my own. I wonder what his angle is on the facts I've mentioned. These facts represent lies and ''cheap shots'' to him. Take notice how intracoast made this a personal vendetta with his direct shots at me as a person... one he doesn't even know.
Hey Scott! This "intracoast" person is just trying to get your goat, notice how there was no denial about the MANY intolerances of the xtian religion? This "person" has already lost any credibility he might have had by attacking you as a person.
Hi Dave. He has an open invitation to disprove the statements I've made in my video. Will he decide to peacefully engage in intelligent discussion about my statements, rather than empty claims of his own tolerance and superior love of freedom?
Hey Scott, nah, I doubt he'll be back with anything "useful" to bring to the table, he just wanted to "flame" your vid with nonsense, too bad though, I was hoping that he was going to show us once and for all what a "true" xtian is.
The Reverend Martin Luther King Jr., Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Merton, Mother Theresa, John Brown...etc. were intolerant? And yes cherry picking some bit of theology and then running is a form of intolerance if your attempt is only to belittle someone who disagrees with your opinion.
Irrelevant name dropping is not dispelling any of my statements from my video. My tolerance is apparent as I continue to post your vague reasoning on my video, but you have no right to spam my video. Now, are you going to address my video rationally or just turn this into some pointless rant?
This was a direct reply to dhaffner101, who stated that: "christians" are 1 of the most intolerant factions of all religions", but your editing my comments are diminishing the meaning of my comments. I just replied again directly to your comment.
intracoast... I'm not editing a thing. YouTube posts them in odd ways sometimes. I think maybe you should make a video with your ideas on reality. You're not offering up a discussion on the points I made in my video. Make your own video and enjoy your freedom of speech, just like I had in my video. I'm under no obligation to spend hours typing responses to your Comments, besides I have other things to do.
dhaffner101 states: "intracoast, Get your face on a video." This statement and others like it in this discussion are ridiculous. I am a user of Youtube commenting in the comment section. Unless if you guys have recently purchased this website I would appreciate it if you stopped acting like you own it and tamping down on others right to speech.
intracoast, I'm actually glad that some1 like you showed up, because you know what's really ridiculous? Religions, especially xtianity, such a hypocritical sect, it's claim to fame is NOT love but FEAR, at best, it's proponents try to explain the fire and brimstone awaiting it's non-believers with a very cute game of semantics, it has been the bane of humanity for many a century, and if it could, would censor all knowledge except for their god's knowledge.
dhaffner101, I call, again, for you and all, to demonstrate tolerance with those you disagree. Stop building a case against anyone. Your experience with Christianity seems unfortunate, but it is different then many other people's experience. Respect that. Reject intolerance of all varieties. And when you go out on a ledge to give a critique, if you want to be persuasive, then be fair. Your above critique doesn't strike me as reasoned or accurate.
Is not the line that you ask us not to cross not drawn by the religion which upon itself dictates that there is punishment and reward for certain action and the inferiority of the individual who disregard its principles? ... or do they have a ranking of punishments based on disagreement? (heresy or apostasy if you will) .. mind you, neither is a true action as much as it is a simple belief in the mind of the the person who disagrees with a faith.
This is such an excellent video my friend, (damn I hope my comment posts.) So many great points brought up here, the American indians, they had thier own beliefs, but had to be "converted" to xtianity, by the pious and hypocritical settlers. A "true" xtian, Hmmmm...I wonder what that means? Just think how far advanced our world would be right now had it NOT been for the dark ages. "Thinking" is always a good thing, it makes us who we are and what we are capable of becoming.
I am the blind one, and I am proud of it. I'm just a stupid unbeliever relying on my own reasoning.......I shall be killed by the christian and the Muslim God also.
Spiritually beats Religion every time! Spirtually is freedom, Religion is binding!I believe that God, Aliens, dinosaurs, the big bang theory, evolution all can co-exist together! The world is simple, yet so complicated! Personally: I am a non-judgemental christian, with a great love for people of all kinds of faiths and beliefs! All we need is Love, Love, Love is all we need!
You brought up some very good points. This is a very provocative video. With all the different denominations, they argue enough about who is a better Christian. Our forefathers knew this. Separation of church and state is in the best interest of all people.
Hi Rhonda. I've been reading Ben Franklin's writings lately. Been discovering lots of cool things coming from his mouth and a thing or two about him that I never knew, which I need to look into more.

Diesel, this is a very interesting side of you! Indeed. Don't see it much. I often wonder what sets an atheist apart from the rest of humanity. How is it that I came out of the dogma of Christianity (or religion in general)? How could I wake up but others cannot? What is different about my brain compared with theirs? How does this happen? I wish I knew.
Hi mwest. Basically, I'm for freedom and liberty, with basic laws protecting us from real crimes, and the control over us as a people must never fall under the perceptions of one mindset or another placed in power. Simplification of government intrusion... not simplification, control and persecution over our ability to use our minds.
like outlawing weed and hookers. Its 100% religion, and has nothing to do with risk assessment other than fear of God.

1. Religious colonists deprived the Native Americans of their homelands
2. There were church going people that had slaves
3. People unaware of scientific knowledge wrote stories addressing how the world came about

It is not just the memorizing of the stories, DB, it is saying the magic incantation. Wacky, wacky stuff.
