They had the same tax on houses in Charleston, South Carolina, but people there combatted it differently: the tax was on the width of the house, but not the depth. A traditional Southern mansion is very wide, with porches/verandas all along the front, so they would just turn the house 90 deg, with the side of the house facing the street, and the garden and porches perpendicular :)
What was with the British and wanting to tax everything? Wonder if they considered taxing taxes? Causing some sort of an infinite loop of having to pay your taxes.
@TheBrontolith we finns have that shit aswell, and its just a matter of give some get some. we're governed by retarded imbeciles, but by giving a bit, we receive enough to make their asshattery just about tolerable. thats much better than instant doom and gloom just because someone in the goverment had a bad day.
@bitchezdontknow You are so much better at looking it up. When I googled idex (amongst several different spellings), all I got was dozens of "IDEX Inc." and "Idex Corp. International". I figured it's some sort of portmandeau or abrevasion for something like "Identical Exports", not a grunting mountain goat with huge horns. :)
I think it's the general exoticist tone that bothers me. I find it lacking in intelligence in that by tyring to be PC and use the term 'trangender people', their discussion actually ends up conflating such individuals with spectacular cabaret drag characters, rather than real, regular human beings who happen to cross some boundaries identity-wise. I guess part of me is all the more disappointed in that 2 of them are gay and on some level I feel they should know better.
@jphilcooper Well I could say that it's probably because those people are the ones that are most visible and audible, and thus people think everyone in that group is like that, but...
There are much the same stereotypes about homosexuals two of them are (though neither conform to the stereotypes) and while the transgendered people most likely to be used in the tax collection capacity they are talking about, would be the more drag-ish types...
@aaron9099 Yeah, but then everyone has to get lawyers and pay lawyers and it drags on for months... Much more sensible to just annoy the hell out of them for three days and get the money.
Sandi's point about forgetting something in one of those Amsterdam houses and having to go back to the top to get it applies much much more in Hong Kong, where lots of people live in 50+ floor buildings.

Is Sandi Toksvig a transgender?
MrSelidor7 3 months ago
@MrSelidor7 No, Sandi is just a lesbian.

@Neverwishy. Are you sure? I think she is actually a guy pretending to be a woman.
Those trannies in the picture look more feminine than she does.
Although the elephant man looks more feminine than Sandi Toksvig to be honest.

While i don't particularly like Sandy Toksvig, i do agree with her opinion on Morris Dancers. They should be used as a form of punishment.

Firemen should live in bungalows? Oh, they do these days. I remember hearing about it on a show called "QI".

@bitchezdontknow Ahh. Thank you so much. Google picture search returns good results for ibex. The noise is so plausible now. :)

Bit disappointed by all the transgender clichés here, doesn't seem up to QI's usual level of intelligence

Can't governments just, you know, do 'em for tax evasion? Instead of all this inventive methods of levying.
