Bach is the man, no question. But there is an equally great composer who of the greatest composers is known by the fewest number of works. But once one takes the time to listen to those works,(and he wrote more than Bach), one becomes aware of his towering genius. He should never be compared to Bach or Bach to him, because they are different. Handel is his name, and he is also the man.

@shnimmuc You are so right about Handel. By the mid 18th century no composer was more respected by his peers than Handel. Ironically his best known piece - Messiah - was composed in just 24 days. If Handel doesn't get the respect he deserves (and I'm not sure that's the case now), I would say it's because his operas are probably his weakest compositions, and opera was probably considered the true measuring stick of a composer at that time.

Alison rocks, period. That said, I've a little beef with playing pieces mostly transcribed to picc. I realize that's closest what Bach would've been dealing with for trumpet, but many of Bach's works sound gorgeous on the bigger horns! I'm glad there's one on here, but so many more of the aires sound amazing on the larger horn. =) The picc is emphasized too much more than the big horn in Bach transcriptions, IMO: he already wrote for natural trumpet.
