I don't remember it, but I know his single went gold in 1955. But I didn't like too much the Country music of that period. Second to Elvis, as far as Country is concerned, Waylon Jennings is a real great singer and this "Outlaw" trend between the late Sixties until the end of the Seventies was really Country music at its peak! Other great Country singers are Jerry Lee Lewis and Conway Twitty. What do you think?
@toddlizak Yeah, she was my favorite female singer since 1958, until Celine Dion started to sing in English in the 90s! But as far as this song goes, better listen to Elvis's version!
@patriciaobrian He gives soul, but he also has the best voice of all male singers who came from the Rock & Roll era! Very few were gifted with a true good voice! I can also think of Conway Twitty, Ral Donner, Johnny Burnette... but the King topped them all. Mind you, he wasn't the King for nothing! Are you German, or just living in Germany? Bye!
@patriciaobrian Great! And if you want another great country masterpiece by Elvis, listen to his verion of SHE THINKS I STILL CARE. It was the mid Seventies and his body was completely destroyed, but thank heaven, his voice remained intact till the end!
Thanks for reminding me. Know the song but haven't listened to it for quite a while. How do you like Pledging My Love? Also one of my favorites from the so called Jungle Room Sessions.
@patriciaobrian PLEDGING MY LOVE was recorded for the first time back in 1954 by Johnny Ace. I heard at least 10 different renditions of it and the best one is by Elvis, although he didn't bring much to the song. I will be lying if I tell you that it's one of my favorites by Elvis! Still, it did enjoy the honor of being the B-Side to WAY DOWN, Elvis' last single during his lifetime.

You are so right. It is a beautiful song in her version, but Elvis gives soul to it which makes a beautiful song just so amazing.
