They have a great band right now. They're tight, warren and Derek are probably the best guitar duo going in rock today. But its a different band now, more blues, less bounce. Yet, Dickey was the melodic genius of the group and his absence is felt in every song.
wait till all those friends start having kids . . . not only will you not have someone to run with but you'll be lucky if you have someone to talk with.
agreed. the gregg/dickey/butch/jaimoe/derek/oteil/marc lineup was the best. i saw them ONCE live in raleigh, nc and it blew my mind. '99, i want to say. i still feel the ripples in the space/time continuum that their jamming caused.
its not the same but it still something!! over 20 ABB shows under my belt and still enjoying them while they last. but could you imagine if DIckie and Greg made nice and joined them? have all three of those guitarists?
When we lost dwayne allman,we lost a legend!!He was and will allways be the best!!!If he were still with us no fucking way could anyone touch his guitar work.
@deepcosmiclove Yes, I was aware of that. His guitar style is as unique as Gregg's voice is. I bought the tape when it came out, and went to the show that promoted it that summer. SO GOOD!
@JimmyPage97 Yeah, when I posted my original comment, I got allot of:"How about Duane?" replies. Well, here is the differance:Duane isn't coming back, ever. Dicky COULD come back if everybody would just swallow their pride and remember all of the things that made them such a great band. The guys that have replaced Dicky were good pickers, don't get me wrong, but they just lack something special that only Dicky has.
@papawx3 yea its a shame cuz I wanna hear Duane and Dickie all the time, but I got this and its just great. I mean theres still Greg if you wan't originality, while Haynes and trucks are always filling in with some new blood.
@dsanchez23fight I feel the same way,but most of my friends died from drug O.D. or in the Vietnam war.I have found a few,but not the same as those good old friends.Keep searching you will find.Their are still a lot of good people out here.
@dsanchez23fight When theres no one left to run with, you save your money, buy a Harley, go out and explore the great nation. You will find new friends and people to roll with. That's what my uncle did and that's what I'm going to do.
I have seen the Allman Brothers live more than any other band. I really admire and enjoy their amazing ability to change and evolve and improvise. No live performance ever sounds alike.
