Hunters don't fill the same role as predators, removing the sick and weak, and thus benefiting the prey "herds" as a whole. In fact, many times its the opposite.
Hunters go for the biggest trophies, and often ignore or "throw back" the runts. That then leaves more runts to reproduce, and basically works in the reverse of natural selection.

For example a wolf sits by a field waiting for a deer to arrive. A doe steps out and is in easy attacking range, the wolf dosent wait for a sick or weak deer to arrive, it goes and attacks and kills it! Its as simple as that!

Again, generally speaking, they do this by "weeding out" the slower, sicker, dumber, weaker, or otherwise genetically defective animals. Most predators don't go after the biggest, healthiest prey. It's too risky and too much work. But in the end it works out great for the system, as the strong then reproduce and pass on their genes. Ask your biology teachers.

Dying sucks, there's no way to kill anything without hurting it bow or rifle, it doesn't matter, a clean kill shot is basically the same with either, an arrow will pass clean through and the deer will bleed out just as fast as a gun shot. Zoologists who are probably also smarter than you have stressed the importance of predators in ecosystems. Hunting is a necessary evil. Over-hunting and fishing will have negative effects so hunting shouldn't get too popular.

Ted is the only person on the planet who makes me pause and question my choice to be a vegetarian. I don't eat meat or hunt, but I support those who do hunt, conserve the wildlife by doing so, and eat the pure protein provided by non-farmed game 1000%. I'm an NRA member, have carried a concealed weapon for most of my life, and would have no issue (other than my mediocre rifle marksmanship!) with hunting and removing invasive species, such as the boars we have here in Florida.

I'm not anti-hunting so please save the "liberals must die" comments, but some of what Ted, and other like-minded hunters have said just isn't true.
Hunters don't fill the same role as predators, removing the sick and weak, and thus benefiting the prey "herds" as a whole. In fact, many times its the opposite.
Hunters go for the biggest trophies, and often ignore or "throw back" the runts. That then leaves more runts to reproduce, and basically works in the reverse of natural selection.

For example a wolf sits by a field waiting for a deer to arrive. A doe steps out and is in easy attacking range, the wolf dosent wait for a sick or weak deer to arrive, it goes and attacks and kills it! Its as simple as that!

Again, generally speaking, they do this by "weeding out" the slower, sicker, dumber, weaker, or otherwise genetically defective animals. Most predators don't go after the biggest, healthiest prey. It's too risky and too much work. But in the end it works out great for the system, as the strong then reproduce and pass on their genes. Ask your biology teachers.

How is trapping mice any different than placing a Conibear for raccoons on you property? Dying sucks, there's no way to kill anything without hurting it bow or rifle, it doesn't matter, a clean kill shot is basically the same with either, an arrow will pass clean through and the deer will bleed out just as fast as a gun shot. Like you turned on a faucet, either way it's not going to run more than 70 yards or so.

have all the lefties forgotten that the human is in the food chain, and we have k-9's (like all carnivores) for eating meat. rather than claws, our weapon is our brain. a gun or bow is no good without a hunting brain. i have seen non hunters try to hunt (usually a humbling experience for them) and totally miss a deer at close distances. without our hunting wired brain, the human race would be extinct. we are doing no different than our ancestors, whether it be a trap, bow or gun.

@EZBLooDYDSI If the land could balance itself the DNR wouldn't have years and years of records that brought on their decisions regarding special extended hunting seasons etc., to balance it. Ask a DNR officer what happens to deer that are overprotected, and if the land can balance itself.
Better yet watch some footage of starving overpopulated deer in areas that used to highly restrict hunting. Again .. please, talk to a DNR officer who can show you what you obviously don't know.
