Anime rarely have just ONE opening, they usually do two, or even more depending on the length of the show. It has to do with how voice acting, singing included is paid in Japan and the inter-relation between musicians and voice actors over there.

Very frequently platinum-label artists will record songs for anime openings for the exposure it brings, as odd as it sounds.
